If you missed it on Friday, Wallaceburg’s Lord Selkirk Bridge has reopened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bridge had been closed since early September because of a mechanical issue that prevented it from opening for marine traffic. It was originally expected to reopen late this week, but vehicles can now cross. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bridge will remain closed to boats for the time being. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Terry Fox Run<\/a> was held around the world yesterday, raising millions for Cancer research.<\/p>\n\n\n

Terry Fox set out in 1980 to run across Canada and raise $1 for every Canadian, or approximately $24 million at the time. He was forced to stop near Thunder Bay when cancer spread to his lungs, and he died in 1981 at just 22. The first Terry Fox Run was held that September, and the annual event has continued ever since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Terry Fox Foundation passed the one-billion-dollar mark earlier this year, and yesterday\u2019s 46th annual Terry Fox Run brought in more than 30 million dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joey Chestnut<\/a> won the 2026 World Poutine Eating Championship<\/a> in Toronto by eating 21 and a quarter pounds \u2014 more than nine and a half kilograms \u2014 of poutine in 10 minutes. Chestnut earned $9,500 for the win.<\/p>\n\n\n

He holds the poutine world record of 28 pounds, set in 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The World Poutine Eating Championship was held in Toronto Saturday with 13 competitive eaters having 10 minutes to eat as much poutine as possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For some perspective, that\u2019s roughly the weight of a small bowling ball in poutine \u2014 gravy, cheese curds and fries included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s Fat Bear Week<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fat Bear Week is an annual, single-elimination tournament celebrating the brown bears of Katmai National Park and Preserve<\/a> in Alaska as they transform from scrawny to \u201cfat\u201d in preparation for hibernation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fans can watch the bears pack on the pounds through the live Bear Cams<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The competition began in 2014. The average midsummer weight of an adult male brown bear in Katmai is estimated at 700 to 900 pounds, and some of the park\u2019s largest bears can weigh more than 1,000 pounds by fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the competition, the public can vote online for the bear they think best exemplifies peak brown-bear fatness. It\u2019s a single-elimination tournament, so the bear with the most votes advances until one bear is crowned Fat Bear Week champion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While it\u2019s all about celebrating big, fat bears, Fat Bear Week also has a serious purpose: promoting conservation and highlighting the importance of protecting places like Katmai National Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fans can vote on Explore.org\u2019s website<\/a> every day of the competition between noon and 9 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n
