Alberta\u2019s reputation for being rat-free for decades might be in jeopardy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alberta has maintained its rat-free status since the 1950s, using a dedicated rat-control program with inspections, traps and public reporting. The province is considered one of the only places in the world without an established rat population \u2014 and officials take that very seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Thursday, a Norway rat was found near Calgary, triggering a response from the province\u2019s rat patrol. One rat doesn\u2019t mean Alberta suddenly has an infestation, but crews are checking where it came from and whether others are nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
