Thomas Rhett Celebrates Two Chart Toppers

Thomas Rhett’s latest success was celebrated on Tuesday, October 2nd during a party in Nashville. Industry members toasted to Thomas’ latest two chart-toppers, “Marry Me” and “Life Changes,” both of which he co-wrote.

Thomas told reporters that he has some doubts about releasing “Marry Me.”

“I remember when we were recording ‘Marry Me,’ I looked at all my producers and I was like, ‘I’m the love song guy, you know what I’m saying? Like how do you put ‘Die A Happy Man’ out and then put a song like ‘Marry Me’ out on the radio and still be believable,’ but we wrote that song out of a place of kind of putting myself into a different narrative a little bit. It’s kind of like a ‘what if’ song if you will, and so I can’t believe that that song reacted the way that it did (with) people knowing my story, but to this day one of my favourite songs I’ve ever gotten to be a part of.”

Another surprise to Thomas was “Life Changes,” something he didn’t think would ever even be a single, much less a Number One hit, but he says it holds a special place for many reasons, the least of which is because he co-wrote it with his dad, hit songwriter Rhett Akins.

“It was one of the most special songs of my career to me just because that song is a page out of a journal, and really cool to see how that song has translated to fans and to radio and in our live show. It’s just nuts, and my (dad), it was written . . . That was the coolest part. I mean, me and Dad have written one other Number One song together but this one was special because I got to tell that story through my eyes but he also got to contribute to that song by saying, ‘Well this is how I saw your life in college, this is how I saw your life in these other areas and as the years went by,’ and so it was really cool to get a perspective from your dad during the writing process and as well as mine.”
