Kix Brooks On The Pressures Of The “Hillbilly Treadmill”

It almost seems like Brooks & Dunn didn’t really retire back in 2010 because they’ve stayed pretty active. There’s the solo stuff, their Vegas residency with Reba McEntire, and now their upcoming “Reboot” album.

But they really did call it quits as far as being a duo that would record and tour on a regular basis. And that break came at the perfect time. Kix Brooks said,

“I think it was good for both of us. There’s stuff you want to do, and when you’re on the ‘hillbilly treadmill’ there’s really no time. There wasn’t any time off for us. We went twenty years without stopping.”

He says that “hillbilly treadmill” started rolling when their first four singles went number one, and after that, it was like being on a rocket ship of success. Tons of people were relying on them for their living, which was great . . . but exhausting.

Ronnie Dunn says the much-needed break allowed him to reconnect with the boss, and yes, I’m talking about his wife.

“I learned how to sit for extended periods of time and go ‘I understand, honey, yes. I’m listening.'”
