Country Stars Talk New Year’s Resolutions
December 30, 2019 5:30 amBrantley Gilbert has never been into New Year’s resolutions or stuff like that.
“Not necessarily. A lot of people make like the resolutions and things, but I never really stuck to many of those, so I don’t do that.”
But Brantley does have fond memories of his mom doing the “black-eyed-peas thing” on New Year’s Day.
“I remember my mom used to do the black-eyed pea thing. I somewhat remember that a little bit. I think she said you make more money the more black-eyed peas you eat. But yeah, I remember she used to do that.”
Justin Moore’s family also eats black-eyed-peas and a hog jaw on New Year’s Day.
“We do the black-eyed peas, and we do a hog jaw, which is tradition around here. I don’t know if that’s everywhere, but that, and my wife said they always did cabbage. So, we do cabbage too, which I love peas and cabbage, and hog jaw ain’t bad either.”
For those who don’t know, black-eyed peas and leafy greens are said to bring good luck, especially in the financial department, when eaten on New Year’s Day.
They say if you add cornbread to the mix, you’ve got “peas for pennies, greens for dollars, and cornbread for gold.”
Pork, or the hog jaw that Justin and his family eat, is supposed to represent progress in the coming year.
