Thomas Rhett Wanted To Be Eric Church

When Thomas Rhett first arrived on the Country music scene, he was having a bit of an identity crisis.

Over time, he developed his own distinct style and sound, but he said that early on, he “crashed and burned,” to borrow one of his song titles, by trying to be someone he wasn’t.

“I remember going back into like my very first album and all I wanted to be was Eric Church, you know, like minus the sunglasses, I wanted to be Eric Church. I used Eric’s producer. I tried to sing like him, and then I remember my first two singles that came out did not do anything at all.”

We all know that changed for Thomas, who recently charted his 7th career No. One single and 11th consecutive No. One with “What’s Your Country Song.”

Thomas’s fifth studio double album, Country Again: Side A, will be released on Friday, April 30th.
