Garth Brooks Recieves Kennedy Center Medallion
May 25, 2021 5:27 amGarth Brooks received his medallion at the Kennedy Center Honors on Friday, May 21st in Washington, D.C.
He was surrounded by his fellow 2020 honorees including Debbie Allen, folk singer and activist Joan Baez, violin virtuoso Midori, and actor Dick Van Dyke at the event which was delayed from last year due to Covid.
Friday’s event was held at the Kennedy Center’s Opera House and was hosted by prior recipient Gloria Estefan.
Upon receiving his honour, Garth told the crowd:
“An award is only as good as the names that are on it. That’s it. When you walk in that door and you see the list of names and then you sit in this group and get to be a part of this…pretty cool (Debbie Allen laughs), you know? And for the first time in my life, I don’t mind being the weak link in the chain. I’m in the chain – that’s it. This is a cool thing. Just feel very, very lucky.”
The Kennedy Center Honors will air on CBS on June 6th.
