Musical Acts Pulling Out Of NRA Concert
May 27, 2022 5:55 amThe NRA’s “Grand Ole Night of Freedom Concert” in Houston may not happen, because no one is left to perform.
Almost all of the artists have cancelled out of respect for those affected by Tuesday’s school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
Don McLean dropped out Wednesday, and on Thursday there was cancellations from Larry Gatlin, Lee Greenwood, T. Graham Brown, Larry Stewart, and Danielle Peck.
As of Thursday night, the only remaining performer was Jacob Bryant.
Larry Gatlin released a statement.
“I cannot, in good conscience, perform at the NRA convention in Houston this weekend. While I agree with most of the positions held by the NRA, I have come to believe that, while background checks would not stop every madman with a gun, it is at the very least a step in the right direction toward preventing [this] kind of tragedy.”
Some people were upset about it, so he posted a video on Facebook a little later making it clear that he pulled out because of his “respect for those people in his beloved Texas.”
Meanwhile, Lee Greenwood made this statement to Fox News.

I was scheduled to perform at NRA’s private event on Saturday with my band. After thoughtful consideration, we have decided to cancel the appearance.
