Country Stars Fight Back Against Scammers

If Garth Brooks hits you up on Instagram and asks for $500 in iTunes gift cards, it’s probably a scam.

Three different country stars just had to speak up about scammers impersonating them online: Trace Adkins, Hank Williams Jr., and Dolly Parton.

Trace tweeted out a video to tell fans that @TraceAdkins is the only handle he uses on social media. He felt he had to after some jerk posing as him tried to scam a guy on Facebook.  The guy’s been trying to raise money on GoFundMe for his dog’s back surgery. The scammer pretended to be Trace, and offered him $5,000 . . . but said he needed the guy to transfer HIM $200 first. Thankfully, he didn’t fall for it.

Meanwhile, Hank Williams Jr. posted on Instagram the same day after noticing a bunch of “fake Hanks” commenting on his posts.

“Don’t be fooled into accepting friend requests or replying to messages from fake Hanks. We will never ask you for personal details or money.”

Dolly Parton’s team also posted on Wednesday to clarify that she’s not out there hawking CBD gummies.

“Dolly Parton is not affiliated with, has not endorsed, and is not associated with any kind of keto or CBD gummy product. She’s more the cake, cookie, and cornbread type.”
