Thomas Rhett Talks About Mental Health Struggles
August 20, 2024 5:55 amThomas Rhett recently sat down for an interview on mental health to encourage people to have more open conversations about it.
He talked about one of the biggest battles of his career… the HATE he got for his second album, “Tangled Up”.
It came out in 2015 and some didn’t think it was “country” enough.
He said he was trying to grow as an artist by adding “a little more pop and R&B,” but it was “not received well by the public.” Specifically, people on social media.
But going through it with his wife and therapist helped him get back to a healthy headspace, where he could tell himself, “This is who I am, this is the kind of music that I make,” and if some people don’t like it, “that’s okay.”
He says deciding to stay true to himself has helped him deal with similar situations since. Quote, “I’ve got a better shield when the arrows come.”
That second album ended up being one of his most successful, by the way. It had his biggest hit to date, “Die a Happy Man”.
