Song Rejected By Blake Shelton Goes #1 For Toby Keith!
March 7, 2025 5:45 amDuring a recent interview, Blake Shelton revealed how a song he originally discarded eventually became Toby Keith’s No. 1 hit, “I Wanna Talk About Me.”
Shelton said he would go in the studio singing “really terrible, inappropriate, stupid rap songs” just to shock his producer, Bobby Braddock.
“I did it so much that he decided he wanted to write me a rap song, and so he went and wrote, ‘I Wanna Talk About Me. I actually cut the song. I said I wanted to put it on my album, so we went in and recorded it.”
The track didn’t resonate with Shelton’s focus groups, leading it to be passed to Keith, who turned it into a chart-topping success.
“I like to think it was meant for Toby. He always used to give me crap about it. He’d say like, ‘Man, your version must have really sucked.”
Meanwhile, Blake signed someone’s PROSTHETIC LEG during a show in Greensboro, North Carolina.
He didn’t even stop the show. He was singing “Neon Light” when they handed it to him with a Sharpie inside.
He walked it over to a little table on the stage . . . signed the side of it . . . handed it back . . . and kept singing the whole time.
