Ella Langley’s Song “Choosin’ Texas” Was Inspired By A Kangaroo

Ella Langley just dropped a great story.  She was onstage and revealed the inspiration for her new song “Choosin’ Texas” that she wrote with Miranda Lambert.  And it’s a kangaroo.

Yes, you heard that right.  So how does a kangaroo inspire a hit song?

According to Ella, it happened during a writers retreat with Miranda, Joy Beth Taylor, and Luke Dick.  Everyone was swapping ideas when Miranda dropped a wild story.

She once got pulled over on a dirt road with a baby kangaroo in the back seat and her dog riding shotgun.  And of course she had Texas plates on the car.

That’s when Ella joked, “She’s from Texas, I can tell.”

And that line stuck . . . and it turned into the hook.

Ella said after they figured out that part, they finished the rest of the song in thirty minutes.
