105… And Still Running

Julia Hawkins is a runner…. happens to be 105 years old and she wants to storm the world record!

Age is nothing more than just a number for Julia “Hurricane” Hawkins.  She is now preparing for a record 100m race at the Senior Games on November 6 in Louisiana.

If all goes according to plan, Hawkins will become the first woman and first American to set a Masters Track & Field World Record in the 105+ category. Possibly because Julia simply has no competitors at this age.⠀

In 2017 Hawkins set a record in the 100-meter race, finishing in 40.12 seconds.  In 2019, she became the oldest woman to walk the 50-meter track, and the next day she ran the 100-meter in 46.07 seconds. ⠀

At 105, she believes that the reason for her longevity is a healthy lifestyle: “I have always been active, kept my weight normal, tried to eat right, never smoked or liked alcohol.  We rode a lot with the whole family, and when I was over 80, I decided to participate in the Olympic Games for Seniors.  – says Julia, – And I really love to live. “
