99yr Old Raising Money For Charity
November 1, 2021 5:22 amA 99-year-old Guelph woman plans to do 100 walks by the time she turns 100, raising money in the process for the poverty relief charity Hope House.
Inspired by Capt. Sir Tom Moore — the British war veteran who raised money for health-care workers in the early days of the pandemic by walking laps in his garden — Orpha Thrasher figured, “if I’m walking every day, I might as well be walking to help somebody.”
So far, she’s raised more than $4,000, with more than three months left until her February birthday.
“Orpha is a little dynamo,” said Jaya James, the charity’s executive director, who hopes Thrasher’s project inspires other people to get outside and get active.
