Never Too Late To Go Back To School

Hortense Anglin just got her chance to walk across the stage at York University to accept her bachelor of arts in religious studies… at the age of 85.

She was inspired after watching her younger sister accept her degree from the school four years ago.

Anglin graduated from high school in Jamaica more than half a century ago — she was going to continue her education, but put that on hold after her husband of 52 years fell ill.

After he passed in 2014, it took her a few more years before she signed up for a bridging program.

She then had to navigate online school when the pandemic hit.

But the degree was just the first step in her journey — she says she already started an anthropology course this fall.

She hopes other seniors on the fence about returning to school because of their age also take the plunge.
