Leftovers Going To Good Use

As result of Sundays Super Bowl 57, there were hundreds of winners who never even took to the field at State Farm Stadium.

Thanks to The Food Recovery Network, volunteers collected and donated a portion of the estimated 140,000 pounds of food and beverages that became available at various Super Bowl events.

Using refrigerated trucks, FRN and other groups accumulated and stored some of the surplus food in an effort at addressing food waste at the big game.

The project was born 3 years ago out of increasing levels of food insecurity exacerbated by the pandemic.

The non-profit estimated it would collect 3,000 pounds of food, the equivalent of 2,500 individual meals for the needy.
