Dog Finds Owner A Kidney Donor

A woman in Wales named Lucy potentially only had a few years to live when she took a trip to the beach with her partner and two dogs, but thanks to a chance encounter with a stranger “chosen” by one of her pets, her life was saved.

After living with lupus for more than a decade and a half, Lucy’s kidneys failed. In 2019 she was told she might only have five years to live without a transplant. So Lucy and her partner planned a two-day trip away with their two Dobermans, Jake and Indie.

While barbequing near the beach, Indie kept going over to a woman on the beach nearby and wouldn’t leave her alone. Lucy went over to apologize and met Katie, who they invited to join their BBQ.

The two started talking and Lucy mentioned she was waiting on a kidney transplant. Turns out Katie had just registered to be a kidney donor!

Testing showed that Katie and Lucy were a perfect match. Doctors say the odds of finding a perfect match at one in 22 million.

The surgery was delayed by the pandemic, but the transplant took place in October of 2022, and it was a success. All thanks to Indie the Doberman!
