The F.B.I. has announced they have recovered Dorothy’s ruby slippers.  The footwear, worn by Judy Garland in “The Wizard of Oz”, was found after a 13-year investigation. They are one of the four pairs of ruby shoes that Garland wore in the ground-breaking film and were on loan to the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Authorities had little to help with the investigation, only knowing that someone or multiple suspects broke into the museum through a back entry door, demolished the clear, plexiglass container where the shoes were housed, and ran off with one of the most iconic pairs of footwear ever to grace the silver screen.

Former classmates reunited in Michigan to uncover a time capsule buried 30 years ago. The result? They couldn’t find it. The seven classmates and two teachers spent two hours digging outside Coloma Junior High in southwestern Michigan. A teacher said information about the capsule was filed away but lost. Some wonder if rebellious classmates dug it up. The Superintendent said the box may have been unearthed earlier when work was performed to alleviate flooding behind the school. The group might use a different metal detector and keep hunting.

Facebook has apologized for removing Burt Reynolds’ famous 1970s Cosmo centerfold picture.  Apparently, Reynolds was so sexy that he broke Facebook‘s algorithm, but now coders are hard at work restoring the famous photo and apologizing for removing it after scores of fans posted picture in tribute to the late actor.  The posts were flagged for violating Facebook’s “Community Standards.”  A rep says that the image in question was mistakenly removed, and they “are restoring the image as it does not break our standards.”

TODAY IS……………….

→ It is estimated that over seven billion hot dogs are eaten by Americans between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
→ The term “hot dog” is credited to sports cartoonist Tad Dorgan. At a baseball game in New York in 1901, vendors began selling hot dachshund sausages in rolls.
→ The most popular condiment for adults is mustard, while children prefer ketchup.
→ The average American is believed to eat approximately 60 hot dogs per year.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

There’s a truck driver in northwest Wisconsin named Nathan Boos who was adopted as a baby.  And he never knew who his real parents were, because he never asked.

His adoptive mom DID know who they were, but never told him.  Then she was scrolling through his Facebook page recently when she saw a photo of his biological dad on his FRIENDS LIST.  And it turns out he WORKS with him.

The dad’s name is Bob Degaro, and Nathan’s known him for about two years.  They both work for a trucking company called Rock Solid Transport.  And Bob was also in the dark.  He had no idea Nathan was his son. It turns out he and his ex-wife gave him up for adoption, because they were struggling financially.  And Nathan has two SIBLINGS he never knew about.

He’s also getting married soon and says Bob’s invited.  It sounds like he would have gotten an invite anyway.  But Bob joked that he might get a better seat now.

(By the way, there’s also a similar story in the news right now about a coach for the Kansas City Chiefs named Deland McCullough, who recently found out his biological father was his longtime MENTOR he’d known for 28 years.)

DIRTY LAUNDRY:
An expert from the American Cleaning Institute, a trade association for the cleaning products industry, says that like everything else, the way that families handle their laundry chores is changing over time.

Brian Sansoni says that perhaps surprisingly, 86 per cent of household’s sort laundry before washing.  That’s right, they actually have separate laundry bins for ‘whites’ and ‘colors’. And rather than having one ‘laundry day’ each week, many families now do several smaller loads throughout the week.

This may be a result of today’s fast-paced lifestyle, and the fact that people own greater quantities of clothing, and clothes made of different materials such as athletic-wear fabrics.

THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO YOUR BODY WHEN YOU DON’T GET ENOUGH SLEEP:
→ Your memory weakens:  A study found that sleepy test subjects’ neurons responded slowly, fired more weakly, and their transmissions dragged on longer than usual.  (Maybe they were just drunk?)

→ Your mood plummets:  Have you ever gotten a poor night’s rest and woken up feeling agitated and irritable? That’s normal.  The good news is that upon returning to your normal sleep schedule, your mood should improve.  (Of course it will…it’ll be the weekend!)

→ You gain weight:    A study showed that women who got 5 hours or less of sleep night gained 2.5 more pounds than those who slept soundly every night, and their risk of becoming obese was 15 percent higher.  (Men?  They gained more weight.  Because if they’re all night, they’re also drinking beer and eating pizza…)

→ You have more health risks:  Lack of sleep has been linked to a higher risk of diabetes, Alzheimer’s, cancer, and heart problems.  That can naturally affect your longevity.  (And your mood…see above!)

→ Your immune system weakens:  The immune system becomes compromised, and suddenly you become more susceptible to not only some of the afflictions mentioned earlier, but also to the cold and flu bugs going around. (Which in turn, makes it tough to get a good sleep…)

→ Your skin ages more rapidly:  Poor sleeping habits don’t just affect your body on the inside. People who don’t get enough sleep show increased signs of aging skin, including reduced elasticity, more fine lines, and a reduced ability to heal from sunburns.  (which kind of makes the fact that a lack of sleep can kill your libido a moot point!)

  1. SERENA WILLIAMS had some major beef with the umpire officiating the U.S. Open final on Saturday.  He called three violations against her, and she was fined $17,000.  Serena says he was being unfair to her, and male tennis players have done much worse.  She ended up losing the match.

  1. The Cleveland Brownsdid something staggering yesterday, they managed to play an entire football game . . . and NOT LOSE.  Of course, they didn’t win either.  Their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers ended in a 21-21 TIE.

Sunday Night Football ended with a big Packers comeback over the Bears.  They were down 17-nothing at the half, and Aaron Rodgers left the game with a knee injury.  He came back in the third to rally the Packers when they were down 20-nothing.  With a little over two minutes left in the fourth quarter, on 3rd and 10, Rodgers threw to Randall Cobb for a 75-yard touchdown play to even the game . . . and then take the lead with an extra point.  It was the largest deficit the Packers had faced since the 1940’s.

Residents of states from Florida to Virginia have been told to prepare for the worst later this week, as Hurricane Florence was gaining strength as it moved towards the U.S. coast. The National Hurricane Center said it expected Florence to be rated a “major hurricane” today and that it would likely remain “an extremely dangerous storm” through Thursday. That is when it is forecast to reach the southeastern coast. The governors of Virginia and both Carolinas declared a state of emergency over the weekend. The path of the storm was expected to bypass Florida as of late yesterday.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD PROCLAIMS SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL IS ‘GAME ON’

Carrie Underwood returned for her sixth season of performing the theme song for Sunday Night Football on NBC last night (Sunday, September 9th) as the Green Bay Packers played host to the Chicago Bears.

She co-wrote the new opening tune, “Game On,” with frequent collaborators, Brett James and Chris DeStefano.

The haters lit up the Internet afterwards whining about CARRIE UNDERWOOD’s new Sunday Night Football theme song.

Some called it “atrocious” while others said it sounded like a “parody” of last season’s song.
