A Grand Rapids, Michigan man curious about a rock he’d used for decades as a doorstop now knows its secret: it’s a meteorite worth $100,000.

In fact, the nearly 23-pound hunk of iron and nickel is the sixth largest meteorite found in Michigan.  David Mazurek said he took his doorstop to Central Michigan university for examination after seeing reports in January of meteorite pieces selling for thousands of dollars.  Mazurek said the meteorite came with a barn he bought in 1988 in Edmore. He said the farmer who sold him the property told him it landed in his backyard in the 1930s.  More tests are being conducted to see if the meteorite contains rare elements.

The Smithsonian and a mineral museum in Maine are considering purchasing the specimen.

ENTERTAINMENT

The iconic “Friends” role of Rachel Green was almost played by “Saved by The Bell” actress Tiffani Thiessen instead of Jennifer Aniston. Thiessen, who’s promoting her new cookbook “Pull Up a Chair,” revealed that interesting tidbit on Nikki Glaser’s show this week.  Thiessen said that she was “just a little too young” to be properly paired with the rest of the cast.  Thiessen was 20 when the first episode of “Friends” aired in September 1994. Aniston was 25 at the time.

A Guy “Sells” His Girlfriend on eBay as a Joke . . . and the Bidding Hits $119,000

There’s a guy in London named Dale Leeks.  And over the weekend, he and his girlfriend Kelly Greaves were at a shop buying horse riding accessories . . . and she used a horse whip to hit him on the butt.

So to get his revenge, he pulled his own prank . . . he listed her for SALE on eBay.

The posting was obviously a joke, and he described her like a used car with lines like, quote, “Starts okay but after a while there’s a constant whining noise I can’t seem to stop” and, quote, “bodywork is fairly tidy but close up shows signs of wear.”

Well . . . somehow, he accidentally sparked a bidding war.  And the price for Kelly got up to $119,000 before eBay pulled the ad 24 hours later.

They said it broke their policy against selling human body parts or remains.

Dale and Kelly say there aren’t any hard feelings between them after the post . . . but Kelly says she may be looking to pull another prank for revenge.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

An Army medic named Luis Ocampo left his home in Charlotte last month when his National Guard unit got called up to help with Hurricane Florence relief.  And while he was gone, someone broke into his house and LOOTED it.

They stole his computer, his gaming systems, and a bunch of other stuff.  So one of his friends started a GO FUND ME campaign, trying to raise enough money to replace it all.

Their goal was $5,000, and they raised THREE TIMES that.  But Luis didn’t want to MAKE money off of it.  So he told them to stop accepting donations.

He said he couldn’t take advantage of people’s generosity by accepting more than he needed.  So he took all the extra money and GAVE IT AWAY.

Some of it went to another soldier who had to move into a hotel after a tree fell on his house during the storm.  And he gave the rest to a charity called the Soldiers and Airmen Assistance Fund.

OGOPOGO MONSTER

Until this month, it had been years since anybody claimed to have seen the legendary Ogopogo — Canada’s version of the Loch Ness monster.

In the past three weeks however, there have been three sightings of the giant serpent-like animal said to dwell in Lake Okanagan in British Columbia.

On Sept. 12, David Halbauer, his brother Keith and their families were enjoying a picnic at one of Lake Okanagan’s many beaches when they saw something that left them awestruck.

“When you’re sitting by the beach on a sunny day, you don’t expect to see a dinosaur come out of the water,” David Halbauer said.  “I saw this black form come out of the water — cylindrical — and then roll.”

The brothers likened the animal to a “giant snake” moving across the water and said it was about 15 meters (49 feet) long. Since that encounter, there have been two more sightings of Ogopogo, generating plenty of excitement among locals and tourists alike.

  1. Hurricane Michael strengthened into what the National Hurricane Center is calling an “extremely dangerous” Category 4 storm early this morning (October 9th) as it barreled toward the Florida Panhandle with landfall set for later today.

In addition to powerful winds and heavy rainfall, Michael is expected to bring a potentially deadly storm surge of up to 13 feet along Florida’s northeastern Gulf Coast. Some 375,000 people have been either ordered or urged to evacuate, as forecasters warned Michael could be one of the worst hurricanes ever to hit the Panhandle. Meteorologists also say that the storm could drop three to six inches of rain in Georiga, the Carolinas and Virginia, which are still recovering from Hurricane Florence.

CHRIS JANSON’S HIT REMINDS HIS OF PUMPKIN SPICE LATTES – (10/04/2018)

Chris Janson’s latest single, “Drunk Girl,” falls perfectly in line with the current headline-making stories of the victimization of women and the #metoo movement, but as a co-writer of the song, Chris tells us there’s no connection. And he wanted to release the song as the second single off sophomore album late last year because it reminded him of a popular Starbucks drink.

FAST FACTS

“Drunk Girl” is nominated for Song and Music Video of the Year at next month’s CMA Awards. The show airs live from Nashville on ABC on November 14th beginning at 8 p.m.

Kristian Bush says the Sugarland song “Babe” with Taylor Swift is about empowering women, and that’s why Taylor wanted to record it with them.

TAYLOR SWIFT wrapped the U.S. leg of her Reputation Tour over the weekend in Arlington, Texas.  And she had some big time guests join her.

On Friday, she brought MAREN MORRIS to the stage, and they performed “The Middle” . . .and on Saturday Taylor had SUGARLAND join her for their song “Babe”.  It was the first time they’ve ever performed it together in public, and Taylor was into it . . . down to the choreographed dance at the end.

KRISTIAN BUSH was asked in an interview why Taylor gave them the song in the first place.  He said it’s all about “empowerment” . . . and alluded to how Jennifer Nettles is such a strong presence in the duo.
