It’s not the plot of an ’80’s movie, it’s real life. A woman who took her Porsche for a service checked her dashcam and discovered it was taken out for a joy ride. Jane Symonds said she brought in her sports care to Huw Lewis Tyres after it developed steering issues.

When she picked up her Porsche Boxter, she noticed a quarter of a tank of gas had been used so she checked her dashcam footage. She found the car was taken out on country roads in Lampeter in Wales and the dashcam showed it hitting speeds of 89 miles per hour. She says she’s informed police and trading standard officers.

A spokesman says one of their staff members has been dismissed for misconduct and “we’ve passed the matter onto the police, so it’s in their hands now.” They also apologized for the incident. Police say they’re investigating.

What is the first thing you reach for when you have a cold?  I mean besides sympathy, guys!  Kleenex.

Well, it turns out, blowing your nose when you have a cold is a bad idea.  I know, it goes against everything that your Mom taught you, but blowing your nose isn’t a great idea when you have a cold — or any time, for that matter. An Allergist and immunologist explained

“Blowing your nose with too much force can actually cause breakage of vessels and undue stress.” It can also force bacteria and other junk back up into your sinuses, putting you at greater risk of infection.

While blowing your nose isn’t a total no-no, it doesn’t solve a lot, but it can give you a brief respite from your symptoms. But be sure to do it properly. Blow your nostrils one at a time, and don’t blow too forcefully, either.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

Lots of things come into the hands of Goodwill workers, and some are more remarkable than others.

A location of the store in Woodbury, New Jersey recently found framed pages from an original 1774 Philadelphia newspaper with an iconic “Unite or Die” snake design on the masthead.

The “Pennsylvania Journal and the Weekly Avertiser” paper, from December 28th, 1774, boasts three items signed by John Hancock, then president of the Provincial Congress, who pleads for the Colonies to fight back “enemies” trying to divide them.

Bob Snyder of the New York auction house Cohasco estimates the newspapers’ value at $6,000 to $16,000. Goodwill Industries hopes to sell it to help funds its educational and job-training services.

City Reverses Course on Clown Costume Ban at Halloween Event

A Detroit suburb has reversed course after its plan to ban clown costumes from an annual Halloween event to avoid potentially scaring children drew criticism.

The city of Oak Park posted a press release on its Facebook page

saying the city won’t ban clown costumes or other costumes from the Oct. 31 “Halloween Boo Bash.”

Officials instead are “encouraging parents to use their best judgment” about costumes for the family-friendly event, which includes trick-or-treating, music and a magic show.

Oak Park says the initial clown costume ban came about after the city’s Park and Recreation Commission heard from parents in recent years who said clown costumes are associated with “scary movies that are targeted for an adult audience.”
