The leading conservation group in Canada is asking people NOT to rake their lawns. Andrew Holland, a spokesman for the Nature Conservancy of Canada, says that leaving your leaves exactly where they fall is the environmentally friendly thing to do. Leaves provide a space for many small creatures to survive the winter, such as butterflies, moths and different kinds of insects. It’s also good for frogs and toads. Plus, the insects that seek shelter in leaf cover can provide food for birds in the spring. If you’re worried about smothering your lawn, leaves can be tucked under bushes or in other areas away from your house. Holland says if you do that, the leaves will provide good mulch for shrubs and help prevent the freeze/thaw cycle in the roots through the winter.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS
A UPS delivery guy in Palos Verdes, California named Jerry Bollinger retired last week after 40 years on the job. And the people on his route love him so much, check out what they did . . .
About six months ago, he started telling customers that his last day would be October 31st. And there’s an office on his route where the employees REALLY get into their Halloween costumes each year.
So as soon as he walked out, they all decided to dress as HIM for Halloween.
They used his picture and made cardboard cutouts of his face to use as masks. And they all bought UPS hats and jackets, or made their own. It started with just one office. But then word got out, and a bunch of his other customers wanted in on it too.
For some reason, his retirement date got moved up a day to October 30th, so they shifted the date. And when he showed up for his last delivery on Tuesday, they were outside waiting for him and cheering his name. He says he’s not sure what his plans are now that he’s retired. But for now, he’s just relieved he doesn’t have to deal with holiday deliveries for the first time in 40 years.
They also did a retirement fundraiser for him, and raised about $4,500. He says he was “flabbergasted” by the whole thing.

Heathen Eats Soup Directly from Supermarket Hot Bar
A grocery store shopper has gone viral for his less than appetizing — and unhygienic — way of eating soup.
The man was recorded by a fellow shopper at an unnamed grocery store taking a sample of soup from the hot bar straight from the ladle. “Something to think about the next time you eat at the salad bar,” Twitter account @wtfvids_ wrote of the footage.
The unidentified man is seen taking the ladle out of the soup pot and sipping from it. The video has gathered over 1 million views across social media and received swift reactions from Twitter users — most of whom called the video “the scariest” and “disgusting.”
The Reddit user who claimed to have captured the footage notified security right after the footage was shot.
The name of the grocery store was not reported, but one Twitter user claimed it was likely a Mariano’s supermarket in metropolitan Chicago “based on the Vero coffee in the background and their sushi station in the corner.”

KLEENEX RENAMES ITS MANSIZE TISSUES BRAND AS ‘EXTRA LARGE’
Kleenex learned the hard way that branding a product for a specific gender is a silly choice.
The company is scrapping its “Mansize” brand name after consumers complained the name was sexist. They’re instead going to change the name of the product to Kleenex Extra Large.
A spokesperson representing the brand said, “Kleenex Mansize tissues have been on shelves for the past 60 years. The brand has been characterized by a much larger tissue size, which is both soft and durable.
It was launched at a time when large cotton handkerchiefs were still very popular and Kleenex offered a unique disposable alternative. […]We are always grateful to customers who take time to tell us how our products can be improved, and we carefully consider all suggestions.”

LITTLE MISS MUFFET WAS ON TO SOMETHING:
A study shows that eating cottage cheese as a bedtime snack can boost your health without leading to weight gain.
Researchers at Florida State University were investigating the effects of eating what are known as whole food proteins, and their effect on muscle recovery and metabolic rate.
What they found was that when test subjects snacked on a 30-gram serving of cottage cheese between 30 minutes to an hour before bed, and two hours after their dinner, it was found to aid a person’s overall health, as well as metabolism and the quality of muscle tissue.
Michael Ormsbee, associate professor of nutrition, food and exercise sciences at Florida State University who co-authored the study, says that the study shows that whole foods can work just as well as protein supplementation.

- While you might figure that you’ve pretty much adjusted to the end of Daylight Saving Time, the European Commission has proposed scrapping DST altogether…for the entire European Union. That’s 28 member countries! If approved, the last EU-wide clock change would be on Sunday, March 31, 2019.
For most of Europe, DST begins on the last Sunday of March and ends on the last Sunday of October. Other countries have already stopped messing with their clocks unless the batteries die: Argentina stopped daylight saving in 2009. Russia ended its daylight saving in 2014. And Turkey stopped monkeying around with Father Time in 2016. Is Europe next? In a poll, 80% of respondents were in favor of eliminating DST. - It’s been five years since Netflix started letting people binge TV shows, but 34% of of people still PREFER to wait a week between episodes. Mike Fisher – Before She Bleats
Carrie Underwood’s husband MIKE FISHER released a parody song called “Before She Bleats”. It’s a about a deer hunt, and it’s set to Carrie’s “Before He Cheats”.
No, he’s not a great singer, but of course not.
There’s also a video. It features clips of him and some guys out hunting deer, and there are shots of him in the studio singing.
That’s probably so you know it’s really his voice.
Kane Brown’s First Celebrity Crush Was Topanga . . .
BILLBOARD” convinced KANE BROWN to play a game of “First, Best, Last, Worst” . . . and we learned a few interesting things.
His first celebrity crush was Topanga, the character on “Boy Meets World”, and “Girl Meets World”.
As for his best karaoke song: He said, quote, “That would be either ‘Gettin’ You Home’ by Chris Young . . . or if I’m with my mom, I gotta sing ‘Man! I Feel Like A Woman’ by Shania Twain.”
The last time he cried was when he and his guitar player were on tour and they watched the Adam Sandler movie, “Click”. Quote, “We ended up calling our girls and it was like, ‘We’re so sorry. Wish you were here.'”
His worst habit is clearing his throat too much . . . and he’s been known to do it while watching movies with friends. His wife Katelyn Jae pointed that out to him before they got married. (And she’ll keep pointing it out until he stops.)
