If you’re not in the habit of washing your avocados you’ll want to add in that step. Earlier this month, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a report which revealed a good portion of avocado skins sampled over 18 months tested positive for bacteria like salmonella and listeria.

And just because we don’t eat avocado skin, doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods.

The knife you’re using to cut through the potentially contaminated skin can carry the bacteria into the flesh of the fruit. In their tests, a total of 17% of the 1,615 avocados tested carried potentially harmful bacteria.

British authorities are searching for the man who was captured on security camera footage dropping a dog on the side of a road — an act that has led to worldwide outrage.

The video begins with a man carrying a dog bed to the curb and unhooking the bed’s straps. The closed-circuit footage then shows the owner suddenly rushing back to his car. The dog quickly runs after him and leaps at the closed car door.

As the dog circles around the car, the man drives away. The dog gives chase before eventually giving up.

A passerby found the dog sitting in its bed, picked it up and took it to a vet who contacted the RSPCA. A spokesperson says the “distressed dog” was now safe but that they wanted the footage to go viral to find the still unidentified man. The bull terrier-type dog has since been nicknamed Snoop.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

There’s a guy in southeast England named Billy Higgins, who looks like he’s in his mid to late 20s.  And he recently signed up to donate bone marrow . . . all because he wanted to talk to a woman he saw standing in line.

The fact that he had a crush on her was his whole motivation.  So he wasn’t TRYING to be a good person, but it got him to sign up.

And his bone marrow ended up saving the life of a 10-year-old boy named Rupert Cross.

Rupert spent about 80 days in the hospital after he was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder.  Then he matched with Billy’s bone marrow, and the transplant completely CURED him.

They recently got to meet up for the first time.  And Rupert’s mom got so emotional about it, she couldn’t stop crying.

But the story gets even better, because Billy ended up MARRYING the girl he stood in line to talk to.

Here’s How to Bounce Back After All the Food, Booze, and Stress of the Holidays

We’re in the home stretch of the holiday season, and if you’re starting to feel burned out, you’ll want to hear this list of tips on how to deal with all the food, booze, and stress of the holidays.

  1. Eating too much sugar.  One day of inhaling sweets isn’t going to hurt too much.  It’s gorging on pie and cookies the entire month of December that really packs on the pounds.

The best thing you can do after over-indulging in sugary foods is to go for a walk to burn off the extra calories.

  1. Eating too much salt.  Too much sodium can cause bloating and make your heart work harder than it needs to.  So if you overdo it on salt, drink more water than usual and cut your sodium intake the next day, to help your body normalize.

  1. Too many cocktails.  Dehydration is one of the main factors of a hangover, so try to drink at LEAST a glass of water or sports drink before you go to bed, to help replace lost electrolytes and normalize blood sugar. And the next morning, eat an asparagus omelet for breakfast, since certain nutrients in asparagus and eggs might help with hangovers.

  1. Disrupted sleep.  Eating and drinking too much, going to holiday parties that don’t end until late, and sleeping at a relative’s house can all mess with your sleep.

The best thing you can do is wake up at your normal time, even if you were out late or tossed and turned all night.  Otherwise you risk getting in a cycle of bad sleeping habits.  And since both Christmas and New Year’s fall on Tuesdays this year, you don’t have much time to recuperate before heading back to work.

RANDOM REPORT

  1. When Metallicawas making its self-titled album in 1991, it was so stressful that three of the four members of the band got divorced during the recording. But it wound up being one of the bestselling albums in history so . . . worth it?

  1. Fried chicken was introduced to America by immigrants from Scotland who settled in the south.

  1. Only one Secret Service member has ever been killed defending the president.  Leslie Coffelt took three bullets for President Trumanduring an assassination attempt in 1950, and died four hours later.

  1. The smell from Crayola crayons comes from beef fat.

“Worst part about insomnia = waking up this morning to see what I bought online while I was up. I just realized I spent over $600 on makeup.”

A few hours earlier she had posted this in her exhaustion: “Dear pregnancy insomnia, please go bother someone else…like dads. My husband sleeps so soundly and peacefully, and I’ve been awake for 2 hours (so far). How is this fair? Imma lose my mind!”
