WEDNESDAY JANUARY 2ND                          –                                   WHAT’S HAPPENING

The Michigan Lottery is trying to find the holder of a $25,000-a-year-for-life lottery ticket that is due to expire in just one week. The lottery said the Lucky For Life ticket, which won a $25,000-a-year-for-life prize in a Jan. 1, 2018, drawing, will become worthless at 4:45 p.m. TODAY. (Michigan Lottery officials said Lucky For Life tickets usually expire exactly one year from the drawing, but the owner of the missing ticket has an extra day because Jan. 1 is a state holiday.) The ticket, which also offers an option to collect a one-time $390,000 lump sum, was purchased from the Picnic Basket store in Plymouth. Officials said the prize money will go to the state’s School Aid Fund if the winner fails to come forward before the deadline.

In case you needed some nightmare fuel, here it is: a man in Gorman, Texas was working out in the woods on his property this weekend when he came upon an abandoned hunting shed.

Bobby Cowan and two of his friends noticed a rattlesnake making its way underneath the shed, so they used a machine to lift the structure in search of the snake. But instead they found dozens of rattlesnakes– Cowan estimates there were more than 30 under the shed.

The men used long sticks and trash cans to remove and relocate the rattlesnakes to another part of the property that was not near any livestock.

ENTERTAINMENT

What a way to start off the New Year! Chrissy Teigen appeared on NBC’s New Year’s Eve segment Monday with Saturday Night Live star Leslie Jones.

When the New Year turned and hugging commenced, Jones unwittingly jabbed Teigen in the face with an umbrella, creating the first viral celeb moment of the year. Thankfully, all is well!

Jones later Tweeted “I hug too hard what can I say,” Teigen replied to Jones when she tweeted her apologies, with a picture of her sending Jones a kiss.

A buffet of buffet facts:
Today (January 2nd) is “National Buffet Day”

➢The concept arose in mid 17th century France, when gentleman callers would arrive unexpectedly at the homes of ladies they wanted to woo.

➢ It was during the expansion of the railroads throughout Europe that the smorgasbord buffet increased in popularity.

➢In 1939 at the New York World’s Fair exhibition, the Swedes used a smorgasbord to showcase the best of the Swedish food to visitors attending the fair.

➢The all-you-can-eat buffet made its restaurant debut in 1946, when it was introduced by Vegas hotel manager Herb MacDonald.

➢By the mid-1960s, virtually every casino in Las Vegas sported its own variation.

➢Today the casino buffet costs a bit more than the average $1.50 price of the 1960s, but the

buffets continue to be one of the best deals in Vegas and elsewhere.

He didn’t stop though, and was still barreling toward a bunch of cars and pedestrians.  But luckily, the truck went right past a church . . . and stopped when it slammed into a JESUS statue.

The statue is a sculpture called “Homeless Jesus” by an artist named Timothy Schmalz.  It depicts Jesus lying on a park bench with a blanket over him.  And another version of it was blessed by the POPE back in 2013.

How Much Would You Pay for a Perfect Night of Sleep?

Imagine what it would be like to lay down in bed and sleep like a damn rock for eight hours without waking up even once.

How much would you pay for that perfect night of sleep? According to a new survey, the average answer is . . . $290.

Unfortunately, most of us could only afford to do that a few times . . . since that would add up to almost $106,000 over the course of a year.

The survey also found the average American got six hours and 17 minutes of sleep per night this year.

And we had 106 “perfect” nights of sleep . . . and 99 terrible ones.

CABBIN’ PRESSURE:
The concept of “flying cars” has always been one that was thought of as something that will happen “in the future”, but it seems the future might be closer than you think.

About 12 companies are currently testing flying cars, or passenger drones, and experts predict that there will be 15,000 air taxis in the sky by 2035. Vertical takeoff and landing craft (VTOLs) could deliver people and goods across traffic-clogged cities in a fraction of the time it takes to drive, and take cars off the road at the same time.

Most air-taxis currently being developed run on battery power and could potentially transport their cargo at speeds of 150-330 km/h (90-200 mph).  At this point the question isn’t ‘if’ but ‘when’.

And the biggest obstacle isn’t in creating the vehicle, but in figuring out a safe way to integrate thousands of these vehicles into a safe air mobility system above heavily congested cities.

  1. Apparently, the best way to keep your New Year’s resolution is by…keeping it a secret.  An NYU study found that telling others about your resolution makes you subconsciously believe that you have already partially succeeded in your goal – something that psychologists call “social reality”.  As a result, you tend to put less effort into actually achieving what you set out to do. And it seems that the more dedicated you are to your goals, the worse the effect is.
