You’ve heard of an eclipse, but have you heard of a ‘super blood wolf moon?’ That’s what some are calling the simultaneous total lunar eclipse and “supermoon” that will take place on the night of Sunday January 20th and in the morning of January 21st.

It’ll be the last total lunar eclipse until 2021, and people in all of North and South America, as well as parts of Asia and Europe, will be able to witness the lunar eclipse. As for the name, the term “blood moon” comes from the red hue that the moon appears to have during a lunar eclipse, and the term “super moon” has to do with the apparent size of the moon, as during the upcoming eclipse it will be at its closest point to the Earth in its orbit, making it appear slightly larger than usual. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, the term “wolf moon” comes from names that some Native American groups gave to each full moon throughout the year. January’s full moon was dubbed the “wolf moon” because “amid the cold and deep snows of midwinter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside villages.”

It’s common knowledge that many people choose to share the password for their Netflix account with a friend, but you might want to reconsider doing that. British company Synamedia created artificial intelligence that can spot shared passwords on streaming services and rat out the offending users. Each service then chooses to deal with the offender as they please– they might send an email asking them to upgrade to a premium service, or shut down their account. However, if someone has illegally sold their password online to multiple people they could be turned in to the police. Synamedia says the system has already begun trials, though no official release date has been set as of yet.

ENTERTAINMENT

It’s taken a long time, but it looks like Eddie Murphy’s 1988 hit film “Coming to America” is finally getting a sequel. Murphy played African Prince Akeem in the romantic comedy, and not only does he want to reprise the role for a follow-up, but he is the one who has confirmed the news.  The plan is for filming to begin this year, and for the original film’s co-stars James Earl Jones and Arsenio Hall to return.

Atlanta Restaurant Offering Bird Box-Themed Dinner

A restaurant in Georgia, is cashing in on the Bird Box craze with its own take on the challenge. The Atlanta restaurant will be hosting a Bird Box dinner on Jan. 24 that will offer customers tacos and margaritas to consume while — you guessed it—blindfolded.

Those with taste buds savvy enough to guess the flavors correctly will get a free homemade cookie. Though, as the eatery points out, “maybe it won’t be a cookie at all.” Luckily it doesn’t seem that you’ll have to do any walking – or boating – to enjoy the meal. Tickets to the “weird” event cap at 42 people.

A teenager in Utah attempted the “Bird Box Challenge” while driving, and immediately hit another car, a light pole, and a wall.  Luckily no one was hurt.  If you don’t know, the “Bird Box Challenge” is where you do everyday stuff while blindfolded, based on a horror movie on Netflix.  It’s also really stupid.  Do not do it.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

There’s a 53-year-old McDonald’s worker in Wichita named Vicki Anderson.  And a few months ago, her car finally broke down for good.

It was a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass, and it had been on its last legs for a while.  But she couldn’t afford another car.  So getting to work every morning has been a challenge.

But she was talking to one of her regular customers the other day, a business owner named Chris Ellis who hits the drive-thru a lot.  And she asked if he knew anyone selling a car for cheap.  So he said he’d ask around.

It turned out Chris’s son Josh had just bought a new truck and was selling his old car . . . a 2009 Pontiac G6.  So Chris asked how much he wanted for it.

Then on Wednesday, they showed up at McDonald’s and surprised Vicki by GIVING her the car.

Chris paid Josh for it.  He says he gave him a good price, because it was for a good cause.  And Josh even cleaned it, changed the oil, and had the tires rotated for her.

Someone got the whole thing on video, and she got pretty emotional about it.  She got in the driver’s seat, then had to get back out when she started to hyperventilate.

Chris told her she makes him smile every time he talks to her.  And he never forgets stuff like that.  So that’s why he did it.

JUICELESS JANUARY:
A popular challenge in January is to try to go the entire month without an alcoholic drink.

“Dry January” is a heavily-promoted public health initiative in the UK in which more than 4 million people have signed on in recent years.

But what if you are successful in going the entire month without a drink.  Then what?  In February, do people tend to drink all the drinks they missed?  Or does participating in Dry January benefit you in the long term?

A University of Sussex study found that while a small percentage of participants were found to experience a “rebound” effect, drinking more than they drank before, most people who finished Dry January reported drinking fewer days per week and fewer drinks per sitting after six months.

And medical tests showed improved liver function, blood pressure and markers associated with cancer, as well as an average weight loss of 4 pounds.

Those who gave up drinking for the month also reported less fatigue, and improved concentration, sleep, and ability to exercise.
