On Today’s Show
January 17, 2019 9:35 amIf there was ever a sign of having TOO MUCH MONEY, this is it.
A guy in Silicon Valley, California pays $1,500 a month so two cats can have their own apartment. They’re his daughter’s, but she couldn’t keep them in her college dorm in L.A. And he couldn’t keep them at his place, because they don’t get along with his dog. So he rented an apartment for them, in the most expensive real estate market in the country. It’s 400 square feet, and doesn’t have a bathroom. Here’s the landlord, who says the housing market is crazy, and the cats are living large.

A video of two teenagers in Illinois trying to figure out how to use a rotary phone is getting some attention. It took the pair more than a minute simply to recognize that Step 1 involved lifting the receiver and they don’t realize you need to spin the rotary all the way round, and every time they mess up, they think they have to ‘reset’ the phone by lifting the receiver and hanging it up again. “What’s with all the holes?” one says before finally realizing you have to stick your finger in a numbered hole and spin the rotary mechanism to dial a specific number.

ENTERTAINMENT
STEVE CARELL and the people behind “The Office” are developing a Netflix comedy series called “Space Force”, which was inspired by President Trump’s idea to make a space-oriented, sixth branch of the military.
Steve will star on the show, which is simply being called “Space Force”. It’ll be a, “workplace comedy about the people tasked with creating the Space Force.”
Steve has been doing a lot of “serious” movie roles recently, so this must be a project that he REALLY believes in. Well that and the “Hollywood Reporter” says he’s getting MORE THAN $1 MILLION PER EPISODE.

Fugitive Tries to Fool the Cops by Writing “I’m Not Here” on a Mattress . . .
There’s a 40-year-old guy named Jesse Pack from Bunnell, Florida, and he had a warrant out for kidnapping and assault charges.
Well . . . when the cops went to his house on Sunday, the woman there said Jesse was gone, and he’d left them a message.
Jesse had written on a MATTRESS in orange magic marker, quote, “I know my warrant is active. I’m not here, I am finishing a job and turning myself in.”
For some reason, the cops weren’t totally convinced . . . maybe Jesse should’ve had the mattress notarized? So they asked the woman if they could search the house and she said yes.
And . . . the cops found Jesse curled up in the fetal position inside a dresser.
Car Thieves Are Busted When They Stop to Ask a Cop for Gas
A woman and two men in Leduc, Alberta stole a car on Friday . . . but as they drove it down the highway, they ran out of gas. So they pulled over to the side of the road . . . right in front of a COP CAR.
And then the woman got out and asked the cop for help.
As he was talking to her, he figured out she had an outstanding warrant . . . and then he noticed the two guys in the car were trying to hide.
And that’s when the cop finally realized the car was stolen. Then, when he searched it, he found one kilogram of meth and 85 grams of cocaine. All three of the people in the car were arrested.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS
A pregame snowstorm didn’t slow the Kansas City Chiefs against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday, but it made game day stressful for one Chiefs player.
Backup guard JEFF ALLEN got stuck in the snow while driving to the game. A Good Samaritan with a truck helped him out of the bind, and Allen made it to the playoff game without further trouble.
Allen wanted to reward the man for his help, but there was a problem. He didn’t get his contact information. He reached out on Twitter for help to identify the man he knew only as Dave, while noting that his helper didn’t realize he was a Chiefs player when he gave him a hand.
To nobody’s surprise, Twitter supplied plenty of volunteers looking to cash in on Allen’s offer of AFC championship game tickets. But Allen wrote on Sunday that he tracked down the right Dave. A TV station in Kansas City connected with Dave, who told him he lives in his truck. “After I got done helping him, he told me he was a Chiefs player, I didn’t look at him as no Chiefs player. I just looked at him as a normal person. I would hope that he’d do the same for me as I did for him.”
Dave said that he didn’t expect anything in return, but when he got the news of the Chiefs tickets, it made him emotional.
“That’s a natural habit for me is to help people,” Dave said. “I wasn’t expecting anything in return.” “It’s like a dream come true. I’d seen the message this morning. And I’m not even gonna fake with you. Call me soft if you want to home boys, but I started bawling.”

Gillette’s New Commercial Addresses “Toxic Masculinity”
If you haven’t seen it, a new Gillette commercial called “We Believe” has gone viral. It’s a response to the #MeToo movement and it asks men to “shave their toxic masculinity.” It’s filled with clips of men and boys misbehaving in ways that are no longer accepted.
Stuff like bullying, mansplaining, and sexual harassment. Then they go back to those scenes and have men step in and change that behavior.
There’s even a clip of Terry Crews testifying before the Senate saying “men need to hold other men accountable.”
It also re-frames Gillette’s classic line, “The Best a Man Can Get” by asking, quote, “Is this the best a man can get? Is it? We can’t hide from it. It has been going on far too long. We can’t laugh it off, making the same old excuses.”

Brantley Gilbert’s Next Album Have Songs About Washing Clothes and Taking Care of a Baby?
It’s been fun watching BRANTLEY GILBERT go from a gruff, biker dude to a gentle soul who cries just talking about his one-year-old son Barrett. But he’s not ashamed of it and admits it totally influenced his next album.
There’s one song in particular that came to him soon after the kid was born. Quote, “I wrote a song [while] we were in the hospital room with him. It’s one of those things that it’s something I don’t think God made words for . . .
“So writing a song about it is harder than I ever thought it would be but [I’m] really proud of it.”
He says he’s so deep into that family place that he might have to dip into his memory vault for future albums.
Quote, “After this record here, we’re probably going to have to reminisce a good bit on records because nobody wants to hear a whole [album] about washing clothes and taking care of a baby.”
There’s no release date on the new album, but it’ll be out sometime this year.

The TV project that Dierks talked about last year centers around a bar in Nashville and its music business hopeful regulars who are all trying to make it big in Music City a la 1980’s sitcom Cheers.
