On Today’s Show

A sixteen-year-old girl in Ohio recently called 911 because her father took her phone away.  She claimed it was theft.  But she was quickly reminded by the police that since she’s underage, so having a phone is a privilege . . . not a right.  Her dad said she’ll get it back when her attitude improves.

A 48-year-old guy named Geoffrey Cassidy was hiding in the bushes outside of a house in Wellington, Florida on Monday, watching a teenage girl in her room.  Luckily the girl’s father was heading out for work and spotted him.

Geoffrey took off running. But here’s what he didn’t realize:  That girl’s dad is a former NFL player named Tony Beckham, who played from 2002 through 2007 with the Tennessee Titans.

And Tony was a cornerback . . . which means it was literally his job to chase people who were running away from him. So Tony easily caught him and held him until the cops got there.  Oh, and somehow Geoffrey wound up with a black eye and a busted lip in the process.

He’s been charged with lewd and lascivious behavior.

Would You Want Your Ashes Pressed into a Vinyl Record When You Die?

Have you thought about what you want to happen to your body when you die?  Well here’s an idea:

According to a new survey, one out of four people under 25 say they’d love for their ashes to get pressed into a VINYL RECORD when they die.

A company that does it has been around since 2010, and the process isn’t that complex . . . the pops and crackles on the record would be ‘you.

About half would want their ashes made into a DIAMOND.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

If you haven’t seen this yet, a bus driver in Milwaukee named Irena Ivic was in the middle of her shift last month when she saw a toddler walking across an overpass ALONE.  (Her last name is pronounced Eev-ich.)

This was all back on December 22nd, but we’re hearing about it now after the city posted footage last week.  The little girl was in a onesie in her bare feet, and it was -2 celcius the day it happened.

As soon as Irena saw her, she pulled over, ran across the street, and grabbed her.  Then a passenger brought a coat up to the front of the bus to help warm her up.

They all waited there until cops showed up, and the kid ended up falling asleep in Irena’s arms.

Apparently, the kid’s mom has some mental health issues.  The dad thinks she left her outside while they were at church, and she wandered off.

Last Thursday, the city gave Irena an award for stepping up to help, calling her actions “humanity at its best.”

Want to Fall Asleep Faster? Try Writing a To-Do List Before Bed

Obviously, anxiety is one of the main things that keeps us up at night.  When you’re stressed, you just lie there thinking of all the stuff you need to do the next day.  So it makes sense why this might help . . .

A new study found the easiest way to fall asleep faster is to make a TO-DO LIST before bed, of all the stuff you need to accomplish over the next few days.

Psychologists at Baylor University monitored the sleep patterns of about 60 people between the ages of 18 and 30.

Half of them spent five minutes writing to-do lists before they went to bed.  The other half made a list of all the things they’d accomplished that day.

And the ones who made to-do lists fell asleep nine minutes faster.  Which might not seem like much, but it’s on par with what some prescription sleep meds can do.

It doesn’t have to be a long list.  Even a few bullet points can help.  But it’s even better if you’re thorough.

People who wrote longer, more specific to-do lists fell asleep faster than people who wrote shorter, more general ones.

Chocolate Is a Better Cough Suppressant Than Cough Medicine?

We’re right in the middle of cold-and-flu season.  So, here’s a hack you’ll definitely want to try if you’re fighting a cough . . .

According to a new study, CHOCOLATE might be a better cough suppressant than actual cough medicine.

Researchers in England took over people with coughs and either gave them cough medicine with codeine, or a chocolate-based medicine called “Rococo.”

And two days later, the people who used the chocolatey stuff reported a “significant improvement” in their symptoms compared to the people who took normal cough medicine.

A previous study found it might have to do with a certain alkaloid in chocolate that works as a cough suppressant.

So does this mean that just EATING chocolate can help with a cough?  Apparently the answer is YES, it can. The researchers used a chocolate-based medicine in the study, but say that sucking on a piece of chocolate can help too.

However, downing a load of hot chocolate won’t have the same effect as cocoa isn’t in contact with the throat for long enough to form the protective coating.

Instead, you’re better off sucking on a piece of dark chocolate which has less sugar and fat than the milky version — as well as higher doses of cocoa.

A Nutritionist says that she believes chocolate’s zinc may also play a role in fighting discomfort.
