February 21, 2019 9:35 amAn 87-year-old woman in Massachusetts recently fell for a scam where she bought thousands of dollars in gift cards, because someone claiming to be her grandson said they were in trouble. She took a cab to Walmart to go through with it, but the driver realized it was a scam, and took her to the police instead. Turns out she’d already been scammed out of $4,000 that day. And it’s the second time the driver has had to help someone in the same situation.

There’s a guy named Allan Harris in Hartford, Kentucky. And this year, his wife Nina asked him to get her tulips for Valentine’s Day, so she could plant them outside.
But he misheard her . . . and on Thursday, he showed up with a bucket of TURNIPS.
Allan wound up going out to buy her the tulips after all.
But Nina was impressed by the first gift because, as Allan told her, quote, “The turnips were harder to find than tulips.”

It’s getting trendy to take the blood of young people and have it transfused into your own body, usually in an effort to cure an age-related disease. But now the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning against the so-called “vampire treatments.”
Some clinics offering up the service, usually at a high cost, claim it treats everything from Alzheimer’s disease to multiple sclerosis and post-traumatic stress disorder.
The FDA says it does have approved scenarios for plasma transfusion, but that even those carry risks of allergic reactions and transfusion-related issues.

ENTERTAINMENT
A lot of popular kids cartoons today come from England, including “Thomas and Friends” and “Peppa Pig”. And it might be having an unexpected effect on your kids.
Apparently, some parents say that their kids have started talking with BRITISH ACCENTS because they’re mimicking what they hear on those shows.
But if you’re worried about your kid having that accent permanently, actual psychologists weighed in and they say that your kid will eventually drop it.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS
Police in Tuckahoe, New York near Manhattan got a call last Wednesday about a pit bull named Sadie running loose in the streets and barking like crazy. So they tried to catch her, but couldn’t.
She eventually led them back to her owner’s house, and no one was home. But while the cops were walking around the property, they smelled GAS.
It turned out there was a major gas leak in the basement that could have caused an explosion. And police think Sadie may have intentionally escaped to go find help.
There were scratch marks inside the front door and on one of the windows. So she tried to get out that way first. Then she somehow managed to get the sliding glass door to the backyard open, and got through a fence.
Her owner says it’s completely out of character. In 11 years, she’s never run away before. So at the very least, she must have smelled the gas and known it was bad. But her owner thinks she was running to get help, not just running away.

What’s the Nicest Thing a Stranger Has Ever Done for You?
A thread on Reddit is going viral after someone asked people to name the nicest thing a complete stranger has ever done for them. Do you know yours? Here are a few highlights from Reddit . . .
- A guy was at a bar with his girlfriend when a random dude walked up and said they seemed like a sweet couple. Then he handed them two free tickets . . . said he couldn’t go at the last
minute . . . and they were front-row seats to see PRINCE.
- Someone lost their keys in college, then they showed up in their mailbox the next day with a note. Turned out someone found them . . . figured out which dorm they lived in . . . and tried them on every single mailbox lock until they found the right one.
- A guy on a bus was talking to his wife about how broke they were. Then someone said he dropped cash on the ground, and handed him $40. The guy knew he HADN’T dropped any money. They just said that so he wouldn’t be embarrassed accepting it.
- A woman got harassed on the subway, and an older dude scared the guy off. Then she got off to get a transfer, and thought the older guy just happened to be going the same way. They waited on the platform together until her train came, then he left. Turned out he’d SKIPPED his stop, just to make sure she got home safe.
- A guy’s flight home got cancelled the day before his kid’s first birthday party, and the next open flight was in two days. But someone who overheard him at the counter walked up . . . gave up THEIR seat . . . and he flew home first class.

FREEZIN’ YOUR BUNS:
It’s a common phrase used anywhere that the temperature plunges below freezing: “Warm up the car.”
Many people do it regularly, not only for comfort, but also because it’s supposed to be good for the engine, right? Nope. According to Popular Mechanics (and anyone else who knows a thing or two about the subject), driving your car right away is the fastest way to warm up your engine, and will actually prolong the life of your engine, as opposed to letting it sit idly before driving.
Letting your car sit to warm up actually puts extra fuel into the combustion chamber, which can get onto your cylinder walls. That can dissolve the oil that lubricates your cylinders, leading to shorter life on crucial components.
So, fire it up and go as soon as possible.

Dan + Shay and Chris Stapleton Lead the Pack with Six ACM Nominations
The ACM nominations were announced yesterday, and leading the pack are Chris Stapleton and Dan + Shay with six apiece.
Grammy winner Kacey Musgraves did well picking up five nominations. And Dierks Bentley, Brothers Osborne, Florida Georgia Line, and Bebe Rexha each got four.
Stop me if you’ve heard this before: It’s ALL GUYS in the Entertainer of the Year category. We’re talking Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, plus Chris Stapleton. This did NOT please Reba McEntire.
She told “CBS This Morning”, QUOTE, “It doesn’t make me very happy because we’ve got some very talented women out there who are working their butts off.”
A couple of new acts did well. Luke Combs is nominated for New Male Artist of the Year, and Male Artist of the Year. Same thing for Ashley McBryde who’s up for New Female Artist of the Year, and Female Artist of the Year.
The ACM Artist of the Decade Honor is returning. We’ll find out the honoree very soon. They’ve only given that to five other artists: Marty Robbins in 1969, Loretta Lynn in 1979, Alabama in 1988, Garth Brooks in 1998, and George Strait in 2009.

LUKE BRYAN ‘HUMBLED’ BY ACM ENTERTAINER NOD – (02/21/2019)
Luke Bryan is reveling in his two ACM Awards nominations for Single of the Year for “Most People Are Good” and the night’s highest honor, Entertainer of the Year. Luke has taken home the ACM Entertainer award twice throughout his career, and he tells us it’s still a big deal because it’s a title he strives to uphold. [“To have an Entertainer of the Year nomination is a huge honor for me. It’s something that I really, really work hard at every year to try to be a better Entertainer, a better singer and a better performer. Nothing is better than going to the ACMs in Vegas, having a couple of nominations and just being out there and enjoying the party and being in the room and seeing what happens. I’m humbled by it, and it’s gonna be exciting the night of the ACMs.”]
In some sad news, Luke and his family are mourning the loss of their newest pet, Poochie, an 18-year-old shelter dog they just adopted a couple weeks ago. Luke’s wife, Caroline, shared the news on social media yesterday writing, “’If the kindest souls were rewarded with the longest lives, dogs would outlive us all!
MIRANDA LAMBERT’S NEW HUSBAND’S FAME CAUSES PROBLEMS AT WORK –
Miranda Lambert’s new husband is learning the hard way that fame changes things. According to TMZ, Brendan McLoughlin, an NYPD cop, has been temporarily reassigned from being on foot patrol to a less high-profile position. Apparently media has been a problem since news of his marriage to Miranda broke, with one major TV news outlet showing up on the front steps of the NYPD’s Midtown South Precinct office earlier this week asking to speak with Brendan.
Brendan normally patrolled Times Square on foot, which is where he met Miranda back in November when she and her Pistol Annies trio were there to perform on Good Morning America. Now, Brendan will reportedly be driving his superiors around for a few weeks until things calm down.
