The mystery of the non-functioning vehicle key fobs has been solved.  Residents of the Alberta town of Carstairs, population 4,000, have been plagued for weeks with the problem of their fobs suddenly not working at the local grocery store parking lot, leaving drivers unable to unlock or start their vehicles and setting off the alarms.

The store posted an update on social media, saying that the problem had been discovered and rectified. “Innovation, Science and Economic Development”, formerly “Industry Canada”, determined that the source of the interference was “faulty consumer electronic equipment stuck in transmit mode in the area”.

A woman in Georgia thought she was doing something nice when she donated an old travel mug among her contributions to Goodwill.  And she was…to the tune of $6,500 worth.  She wasn’t aware that her son had stored cash from the recent sale of his car inside the mug.  When she realized what she had done, Lindsay Preiss contacted Goodwill, who searched surveillance footage, but still have not found the lucky person who purchased the yellow mug with a Mickey Mouse sticker and $6,500 inside.  A reward is being offered.

Excited College Student Showed Up to Her Microsoft Interview a Month Early

21-year-old Laura MacLean is a student at Robert Gordon University in the U.K.  And she had a job interview scheduled with Microsoft that she was so excited for . . . she accidentally showed up a month early.

The interview was scheduled for February 18th, but Laura dressed up and logged on for the interview on Skype on the 18th of THIS month.  Then, when no one else showed up for 15 minutes, she emailed the recruiting team.

And they wrote back, quote, “Thank you for your email.  Today is the 18th of January, February is the next month.”  Ouch.

Laura tweeted screenshots of that email exchange, and now they’re going viral.

Fortunately for her, it doesn’t look like it’s going to sink her chances with Microsoft. Their head of Global Talent Acquisition said they’re always looking for people who, quote, “take initiative . . . and recognize [their] own mistakes.”

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

There’s a 10-year-old kid in New Jersey named Kai Strothers who just became one of the youngest people ever to bowl a PERFECT GAME.  That’s 12 strikes in a row.

He did it last Saturday at a bowling alley in Linden, New Jersey, just outside Newark.

He’s the youngest person to ever do it in New Jersey, and the second-youngest in the U.S.  A nine-and-a-half-year-old girl in Florida rolled a perfect game back in 2013.

Kai’s mom could barely hold it together near the end.  When he got a strike in his ninth frame, she says she had to walk away, because she didn’t want to make him nervous.

His whole family is big into bowling, and started bringing him to the bowling alley when he was just 18 months old.  Then he joined his first league at age four.

He’s already being scouted by colleges for a potential bowling scholarship, and says he hopes to go pro one day.

REDUCE, REUSE, REFILL:
If you’ve ever wondered why you pay deposit on some things like beer bottles, but don’t for other things…like say…shampoo bottles, just wait.

A new shopping platform called “The Loop” aims to change the way we buy many of our products.  The Loop plans to do away with disposable containers for things like ice cream, laundry detergent and yes, shampoo bottles.

The plan is to have products like those delivered in reusable containers, and when you are done with them, they will be picked up at your door, washed and refilled.

Companies already signed on as partners include Nestle, Procter & Gamble, PepsiCo and others.  They are also going to try a similar program with diapers.

  1. It wasn’t shocking that the New England Patriotswon the Super Bowl . . . but not many people would’ve predicted that it would’ve been the LOWEST scoring Super Bowl ever.

One person DID have a feeling that the L.A. Rams wouldn’t score a touchdown, because they put $250 down on the Rams only scoring three points.  The line on that was 400-to-1.

Obviously, that’s exactly what happened . . . so the person won a cool $100,000.  The bet was placed at the South Point Sports Book in Las Vegas . . . but there’s no word who the bettor is.

Whoever they are, they must have been SWEATING the finish . . . when Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein missed a 48-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining.

Remember:  The Rams went into the playoffs as the league’s second-best scoring offense . . . only trailing the Kansas City Chiefs.

  1. There’s a 7-11 in Portland, Orgeon that’s had problems with loitering and drug use associated with homeless people.  So their solution was . . . to play a constant, annoying, high-pitched tone to drive them away.  But it also annoys the locals, who think it’s aggressive.

GARTH BROOKS’ LATEST SINGLE IS A ‘GIFT’ –

Garth Brooks is a hit songwriter in his own right, but he says his latest single, “Stronger Than Me,” says it better than he ever could. Garth calls the song a “gift” which he is proud to share with his fans. [“Getting to sing a song that you believe every syllable in – that . . . that’s a gift. And I hope that this song is a gift to other people like me who have the most special person as your best friend and spouse. This song is so ‘me’.”]

“Stronger Than Me” will be included on Garth’s upcoming studio album, FUN!, which is due out later this year.

Garth kicks off his stadium tour on March 9th with a sold-out performance at Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, MO.

THOMAS RHETT BUILDING BRAND A LA KENNY CHESNEY – (01/30/2019)

Several of today’s biggest country stars are finding ways to expand their brand beyond the bounds of music, whether it’s bars or fashion lines or liquor brands. Thomas Rhett has the same goal, but he tells us he’s taking his cues from Kenny Chesney. [“Kenny has to be the best person to learn from. Now, I feel like FGL’s in that same mindset of just Old Camp, having a bar, same with Chesney, you know, with Blue Chair Bay. And it’s just really cool to watch them use their platform as a singer to go do other things that they’re passionate about.  Because I watch Kenny’s show and I genuinely feel like I’m at the beach. And anytime I drink a Blue Chair Bay mixed rum drink I’m just like, ‘Cool, like this feels right.’ You know he’s done it so well and I hope I can just continue to learn from him.”]

Thomas just scored the 12th Number One of his career with “Sixteen.”  The next single he’ll release will be off a new album slated for release later this year.

His Very Hot Summer tour kicks off in May with Dustin Lynch, Russell Dickerson and Rhett Akins.

DUSTIN LYNCH PENNED SONG FOR BACKSTREET BOYS’ NEW ALBUM

Dustin Lynch has a writing credit on the Backstreet Boys‘ brand new album, DNA. He co-wrote a song called “Just Like You Like It” along with country mega-writers Josh Kear and Ross Copperman, who produced Dustin’s latest album, Current Mood.

Backstreet Boys have been dipping their toes in the country music pond for the last couple of years. The group scored first chart-topping country single in 2017 with “God, Your Mama and Me,” a collaboration with Florida Georgia Line. They also toured with the duo, and teamed up with FGL again for an installment of CMT’s Crossroads.

Backstreet Boys’ DNA was released on January 25th and debuted at Number One on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.
