On Today’s Show
March 8, 2019 9:35 amA dog in Alaska got away from his owners on Sunday night, joined up with two teams competing in the Iditarod, and ran with them for 30 miles . . . an entire leg of the race.
On Monday they flew him home.

A 27-year-old guy in Orlando had been trying to get his Nissan Altima out of an impound lot for about a month after it got towed.
He got frustrated when he couldn’t get his car out of an impound lot on Saturday . . . and started throwing Molotov cocktails at it. The dumbest part is the guy who had his keys showed up just as he was doing it. So if he’d waited a few more minutes, he would have gotten his car back.
The lot owner’s name is Darnell Adams. He says he’s not sure what the guy was thinking, because he’d already paid almost $300 to get his car out. So he could have left with his not-burned car if he’d just been a little more patient.
He’s facing charges for arson and building a fire bomb.

Business Class Passenger Throws ‘Hissy Fit,’ Causes 5-Hour Flight Delay over Meal
An unidentified man flying on Air Canada had taken his seat in business class for the flight from Vancouver to Toronto when he became “disruptive,” demanding to be served fish and claiming he could not eat meat or gluten.
The flight attendants were taking meal requests from business class passengers before the plane took off, which prompted the man’s demands.
Though the flight attendant reportedly tried to offer the man several meal choices, a witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said that the passenger continued to be “very belligerent, very rude to the flight attendant.” He was like, ‘If I don’t get fish, there will be a problem. One way or another, I will get my fish, either you serve it to me or I will serve it to myself.'”
The passenger’s behavior forced the plane to go back to the gate, where he was eventually removed from the flight. However, his outburst caused enough of a delay to the flight that it created an issue for the flight crew.
“The pilot came on the radio and said, ‘Due to this delay of having to come back to the gate, the co-pilot and I have tapped out on our hours and we need to get you new pilots to get you to Toronto,’” the witness said.
The incident, which several on board dubbed “#fishgate,” left passengers unable to board the flight until 7:30 p.m. over five hours after their originally scheduled 2 p.m. flight.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS
This is real friendship right here. Tanner Wilson is a high school senior in Norman, Arkansas.
And one of his best friends is Brandon Qualls, who has some disabilities and uses a wheelchair.
Brandon’s always used a regular wheelchair even though it made his arms tired.
He’s been wanting an electric one for a long time, but his parents couldn’t afford it.
So without telling him, Tanner started saving up as much money as he could from his part-time job working with a mechanic. And after saving for TWO YEARS, he showed up with an electric wheelchair and surprised Brandon at school last week.
Brandon had no idea, and broke down in tears. He says he just couldn’t believe someone would do that for him.
Tanner says Brandon has been a really good friend to him, and has always been there for him.
So he just wanted to “do him a favor.” And he’d do it all again if he had to.

Stolen Magazine Returned to Library after 51 Years with ‘Late Fee’
An Ohio library said an issue of Life Magazine that went missing in 1968 was returned via mail along with a $100 check to cover “the late fee.”
The Cuyahoga County Public Library said in a Facebook post that an anonymous package received in the mail turned out to contain the September 1968 issue of Life Magazine, which featured The Beatles on the cover.
The magazine had been taken from the library shortly after its release. The package included a note and a money order for $100. “I stole this magazine from the Parma Ridge Road Library when I was a kid.
I’m sorry I took it. I’ve enclosed a check for the late fee,” the note said. The library thanked the person for their honesty.

Four Ways Life Might Be Better with Year-Round Daylight Saving Time
We set the clocks forward this Sunday. And several lawmakers in Canada and the U.S. are considering switching to Daylight Saving Time year-round. Here are four ways that could make life better . . .
- Lives might be saved. The evening rush hour is more dangerous for a couple reasons . . . there are more people are on the road, there’s a greater chance for alcohol to be in people’s bloodstreams, and more kids are outside playing.
So having an extra hour of sunlight in the evening could reduce car accidents with pedestrians. In fact, a study by Rutgers researchers found that 343 lives could be saved every year if we switched to year-round Daylight Saving Time.
- Crime could decrease. Criminals like darkness. But a 2013 study found that more light in the evening could reduce crime by up to 20%. It especially helps with juveniles, who are more likely to commit crimes after school in the early evening hours.
- Energy might be saved. When the sun is out later, there’s less demand for energy to light and heat homes and businesses. When the sun rises earlier during Standard Time, a lot of people aren’t even awake yet.
- Our sleep wouldn’t get messed up twice a year. No matter whether you prefer Standard Time or Saving Time, changing the clocks twice a year is bad for our health. It disrupts our sleep . . . heart attacks increase . . . and one study even found it negatively affected financial markets.

- “Captain Marvel”is out this weekend. There’s also a western directed by Vincent D’Onofrio called “The Kid”, which features his daughter as a woman who gets mixed up in the arrest of Billy the Kid.
- We change the clocks this weekend moving forward one hour. Gaining or losing an hour of sleep (after the clock changes) affect sleep patterns, often for about five to seven days, according to the Mayo Clinic’s co-director of the Center for Sleep Medicine. The most notable changes are in those who regularly do not get enough sleep. People who are sleep-deprived might struggle with memory, learning, social interactions and overall cognitive performance.

DARIUS RUCKER BECOMES PGA TOUR’S FIRST FORMAL BRAND AMBASSADOR –
Darius Rucker will take his love for golf one step further by becoming the PGA Tour’s first formal brand ambassador. This brand ambassador role means that fans can expect to see Darius appearing more frequently as a commentator on PGA Tour Live, across PGA Tour digital channels and in-person at PGA Tour events.
It’s a widely known fact that if Darius is not on the stage or at home with his family, you’ll likely find him on the golf course. He has a definite passion for the sport, which he tells us takes up a lot of his downtime: [“I only have one hobby, and that’s golf. That’s the only thing I do besides work and spend time with my family, the only thing I do is golf. Even when I’m playing bad I force myself to not be mad and look around and go, man, you know, ‘This is God! This is nature.’ You’re usually in an amazingly beautiful place that’s so manicured and so well-kept that what have you got to be mad about? I’m not gettin’ paid to play. That’s what I always tell myself, but it’s very important to me. I play as much golf as I can. I would play every day if I could.”]
Darius will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Darius & Friends Concert and Charity Golf Tournament this year, as well as the 25th anniversary of Hootie & the Blowfish’s annual Monday After the Masters (MAM) event.
MAREN MORRIS’ ‘GIRL’ ALBUM IN STORES TODAY
Maren Morris‘ sophomore album, Girl, is available at all music retailers today (Friday, March 8th). The project features 14 songs, all co-written by Maren, including the title track, which sits in the Top 30 and climbing on the country charts.
Maren says the album’s songs as well as the title reflect her growth in the nearly three years since the release of her debut project, Hero. [“I just think the word ‘girl’ summed up the theme of the record. I was so young-seeming with my first album, even though I was 25, 26 when I made it but so much has happened in the last few years that like I’m not really the same girl anymore. I’m this new version of it and more mature and I think the headspace I’m in is a lot healthier this time around with this record, and I’m just in a better place, so I think naming it ‘Girl,’ it kind of captured a lot of things for me, so there was some intention behind it.”]
She kicks off her Girl: The World Tour tomorrow (Saturday, March 9th) night in Chicago with special guest Cassadee Pope.
GARTH BROOKS KICKS OFF ‘STADIUM TOUR’ THIS WEEKEND
Garth Brooks‘ Stadium Tour will kick off this weekend with the first of many sold-out shows beginning at St. Louis’ The Dome at America’s Center on Saturday (March 9th). Garth is just getting used to playing such massive venues with regularity, something he tells us makes him anxious. [“It’s a big ask for an artist to ask people to show up like that. So I’m nervous, scared. The thing is trying to figure out how to make a stadium small. The whole hope and thought is to turn that arena into a honky-tonk.”]
The Stadium Tour is already making history in cities around the country, breaking attendance records like the one he set just yesterday (Thursday, March 7th) in Gainesville, FL. His April 23rd show there at the University of Florida’s Ben Hill Griffin Stadium now holds the record for largest crowd of any non-athletic event with over 75,500 tickets sold.
So far, all of Garth’s stadium dates have sold out, setting new records at each venue.
