On Today’s Show
March 13, 2019 9:35 amA woman on an Air Transat flight from Toronto to Calgary on Feb. 26 was in the last hour of a flight when she started to feel a fluttering motion on her lower back and as they were about to land she felt a piercing pain in her lower back of being bit.
She said she was freaking out, trying to grab her sweater, but couldn’t take her seatbelt off to see what it was as the plane was landing.
“The lights turned on, I looked behind me on the seat and then I saw movement and there was a scorpion that was in the fold toward the back of the chair.”
Maltais said the attendant initially went back to her seat and found a gum wrapper, trying to tell her that’s what had stung her. But Maltais told her to check again, so she did and then spotted the scorpion between the seats. Paramedics escorted her off the plane as she said she was having a panic attack. As for the scorpion, the airline confirmed it was captured once all passengers had disembarked from the plane and handed over to airport authorities.
The airline didn’t say how, or where, the scorpion likely got on the plane.

ENTERTAINMENT
Kevin Nealon was on “The Tonight Show”, and joked about how he’s 63, and his 10-year-old son is worried they won’t have much time together.
HGTV duo Jonathan and Drew Scott apparently, somehow, have time to do yet another show. The latest “Property Brothers” installment, “Property Brothers: Forever Home” is set to premiere on May 29. The subjects of this new show aren’t looking to flip their property for profit, because they know this place is “the one” where they can put down roots and happily spend their lives. To unlock a home’s full potential, Jonathan and Drew will focus on overhauling the house to suit the families’ needs and wishes.

Woman’s ‘I Hate Iowa’ Post Draws Attention to House Listing
An Iowa woman, Wendy Lange, posted a photo of herself in the snow to Facebook that unexpectedly went viral thanks to the text she included in the image:
“I hate Iowa, please buy my house.”
Lange said she didn’t realize the photo was public, thinking it was just a joke for her son. The photo went viral, however, bringing new interest to the listing for her Vinton home. Lange said she and her husband built their home in 2004, but they are ready to move somewhere warmer. “It’s just too cold,” she told local media. “I don’t really hate Iowa.”
Lange’s real estate agent, Jami Gordon, said the viral post could end up being a positive for the listing, despite its negative message. “I think people are more or less going ‘Ha ha, me too. I hate Iowa because of these big snow drifts and all this ice and everything that’s happening this year,'”

DON’T RUB IT IN:
Have you ever spent an afternoon at the beach or at a barbecue, diligently slopping on the sunscreen every hour…and still ended up with a burn?
You’re not the only one. The U.S. FDA is making moves to crack down on sunscreens which may not only make false claims regarding the amount of protection they offer, but may also contain unsafe chemicals.
If passed, a bill would require more testing on sunscreen. Only two sunscreen ingredients are generally recognized as safe – zinc oxide and titanium oxide. Any other ingredients will require more research to prove they are ok.
The crackdown would also require a disclaimer if the sunscreen hasn’t been shown to prevent skin cancer. And those “SPF” numbers they use?
The FDA says manufacturers have long “bamboozled” consumers into believing they’re getting more protection from the sun than they actually are. There should be a ruling on the proposal later this year.

Man Receives His Telegram 50 Years Late
Robert Fink graduated from the University of Michigan in 1969, back when people still sent messages via Western Union.
As MLive explains, family friends Ben and Lillian Fischman sent Fink a congratulatory message about his graduation, but it arrived a day after he had left town. Somebody stuck it in a filing cabinet, where it got lost underneath one of the drawers for half a century.\
A woman whose company bought the cabinet second-hand finally discovered it, did some online sleuthing, and mailed it to Fink.
“Sorry we cannot be there to applaud when you get your diploma but our hearts and best wishes are with you,” reads the old message. “Love Dr. and Mrs. Fischman.” Fink, now a professor at Oakland University in Michigan, says he was belatedly touched that the Fischmans—parents of his childhood best friend—had sent the message.
“It took some effort to send a telegram,” he notes. “It’s not like texting someone.” Both have since died, “and, of course, I never thanked them.”

Huge College Admissions Scandal
Actresses LORI LOUGHLIN and FELICITY HUFFMAN have been charged in a huge college admissions scandal.
Rich people were paying a guy between thousands and millions of dollars to fraudulently get their kids into schools like Yale, Stanford, UCLA, and USC.
They’re calling it “Operation Varsity Blues”. The official charges against both of them are “conspiracy to commit mail fraud” and “honest services mail fraud”.
Here’s what was happening in a nutshell: A man named William Singer set up a fake charity that rich people would pay into. In exchange, he would fraudulently get their kids into some of the top schools in the country.
How would he do it? Sometimes with straight-up bribes. But Singer would also help students cheat on college entrance exams . . . or he’d even fake ATHLETIC CREDENTIALS for them.
People were paying from thousands to MILLIONS of dollars to get their kids into schools like Georgetown, UCLA, USC, Stanford, Wake Forest, Yale, and others. Singer has been running this scam since 2011.
Charges have been filed against dozens of people; including exam administrators, school athletic coaches, and parents. It’s not clear if they’ll go after any of the KIDS.

The New York Giants have traded their star receiver, 26-year-old Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns. In return, the Giants are getting first- and second-round draft picks next month and safety Jabrill Peppers. The trade comes after Beckham got a five-year, $90 million contract extension last summer that made him the highest-paid receiver in the NFL.
Bell to Jets: In another big report, ESPN said early this morning that the New York Jets agreed to a four-year, $52.5 million deal with former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell.

Riley Green Didn’t Plan on Being a TV Star
Is it wrong to be jealous of RILEY GREEN? This is a guy who gets to host a hunting show AND go on tour as a country singer. It’s almost like he’s leading a charmed life, which is kind of how he got on TV in the first place.
He got his break when Wayne Pearson asked him to host an episode of ULTIMATE OUTDOORS. Quote, “I hunted for fun. I was never a show guy [but] they asked. Now if I shoot a turkey and the camera guy doesn’t get it on camera, it’s not a show.”
Or is it? He missed one on the FIRST day but did kill one the LAST day. Well, all the drama in between those days ended up making it a really good show. In fact, it was so good that it was one of their most popular episodes.
Quote, “So [Wayne] ended up wanting me to host a show and I hosted ‘Ultimate Outdoors’ for a few episodes.” We should add that Riley is a very skilled hunter. When he got his “accidental” break, he made the most of it.
Luke Bryan is Disappointed at the Lack of Female ACM Entertainer Nominees
The backlash from failing to have any female Entertainer of the Year nominees at next month’s ACMs is not going away. This time it was LUKE BRYAN being asked about it in an interview on Buzzfeed’s “Profile”.
He said, QUOTE, “I think it’s always disappointing when women are left out of the Entertainer of the Year categories. It’s something the country music community has taken note of . . . that women aren’t truly getting represented like they need to.
“It’s something on everybody’s radar, and I think Reba has earned the right to voice her opinion on matters like that. Somebody like Reba has to stand up and say to the Academy of Country Music and all forms of country music awards shows.”
He adds that ALL the female country performers have a right to speak up about it. And he’s also planning to do his part by inviting more women artists to be openers on his shows.
The ACMs Have Launched a Diversity Task Force
The Academy of Country Music has launched a diversity task force that will, quote, “examine barriers and biases affecting women and underrepresented groups in country music.”
This is clearly a response to the bad press they’re getting for failing to have any female Entertainer of the Year nominees in the past two years . . . and for having NO female winners of that award since Taylor Swift back in 2011.
The task force will offer recommendations about how to change things up in the academy as well as the “industry at large.” They’ll be announcing more details later this month. Again, “about time.”
In other ACM news: The first round of performers have been announced for next month’s show.
They are: Miranda Lambert, Brothers Osborne, Kane Brown, Little Big Town, Maren Morris, Thomas Rhett, Chris Stapleton and George Strait . . . plus a performance from the show’s host, Reba McEntire.
