A guy in Ohio is giving up everything for Lent except beer.  But he’s not doing it as a joke, or to get drunk.  He’s an Army veteran who works at a craft brewing company, and he was inspired by monks in the 1600’s who only drank a certain kind of beer for Lent.  But he’s going to drink all different kinds, and water too.

A guy was in the middle of driving from Montreal to Calgary on Wednesday. His name is Constantine Xethalis.  (Pronounced ZETH-uh-liss.)

And one of his passengers was using the GPS on their phone to navigate.  But it sent them way off course, and they ended up at the U.S. border crossing AT THE BLUEATER BRIDGE in Michigan

Which was a problem . . . because they had about 10 pounds of METH in their car.  It was in pill form, not crystal meth.

Constantine claims he didn’t know it was drugs.  He says someone told him to transport “something” for them as a way for him to pay off a $2,000 gambling debt.  But he didn’t know it was meth.

He was also supposed to pick two people up in Toronto on his way there.  It’s not clear if they’re in trouble too, but he’s facing charges for possession with intent to distribute.

The Hallmark Channel has decided to part ways with LORI LOUGHLIN, after she was charged in that college admissions scandal.  And her daughter Olivia Jade lost her deal with Sephora cosmetics.

But, in what could be even BIGGER news, there are so-called “sources” out there saying that Netflix is firing her from “Fuller House”.  There’s nothing official on that yet, though.

TODAY IS……………….

  • “World Sleep Day”, an international celebration of sleep and a call to action on important issues related to sleep, including medicine, education, and driving.

1977, “Three’s Company” and “Eight Is Enough” premiered on ABC.

SUNDAY-
• “St Patrick’s Day”, the Irish national holiday that began as a ‘solemn religious observance’ to honor St Patrick (389-461 AD), patron saint of Ireland. It’s a public holiday in Ireland, Montserrat, and the Canadian province of Newfoundland & Labrador. Some fast facts …
– It’s been an Irish holiday for 1,500 years.
– The world’s largest “St Patrick’s Parade” is in NYC where over a million spectators and 100,000 participants are expected. A tradition since 1762, the 2-mile parade lasts about 6 hours.
– It was first celebrated in Canada in 1765 in Québec City QC.
– Since 1965, the Chicago River has been dyed green for the “Chicago St Patrick’s Parade”, an idea conceived when a plumber was observed using green dye to trace leaks from a building.
– Green is associated with “St Patrick’s Day” because it’s the color of Spring, Ireland, and the shamrock

Serial Bank Robber Turns Out to Be a Neuroscientist with a PhD

Cops in San Diego have been looking for a serial bank robber who’s pulled off several heists in the last few months.  The first one happened back in December.

And last week, they finally arrested a 43-year-old guy named Karl Doron . . . who happens to be a NEUROSCIENTIST with a PhD.

According to his LinkedIn page, he studied brain sciences at the University of California, Santa Barbara.  And he’s worked at Dartmouth, Boston University, and the University of California, San Diego.  He was also in the Marines before that.

They arrested him last Tuesday after he tried to rob a Navy Federal Credit Union about 15 miles north of San Diego.

He’s facing seven counts of bank robbery and two counts of attempted bank robbery.  And he could get nearly 15 years in prison if he’s convicted.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

A 17-year-old kid in Jersey City, New Jersey just got accepted to 17 different colleges.  And it’s a big deal, because he’s been HOMELESS for a large portion of his life.

His name is Dylan Chidick.  He came to the U.S. from Trinidad with his mom when he was seven, but he’s a U.S. citizen now.

His family has been homeless off and on since he was young.  But he still managed to make it into the National Honor Society, and he’s also president of his class.

He says his mom’s courage is what inspires him to work so hard.  And he knows how hard life can be.  So he’s determined to lift his family up and never let them get back to a place where they have to struggle so much.

He’s been accepted to 17 schools so far, including a few big ones like Xavier.  But he’s still waiting to hear back from The College of New Jersey, near Trenton.  That’s his top choice, partly because it’s close to his mom.

Wherever he ends up, he plans to work as hard as he can.  And he’s planning to major in political science.

HEALTH NEWS –         HOW TO BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

“The New York Times” talked to a doctor about how our immune systems are becoming weaker, because of stuff like antibacterial soap.

And she said it might be a good idea to pick your nose and eat it more.  She also said if you drop food on the floor, pick it up and eat that too.

She was giving over-the-top examples, but the point is that our immune systems are being deprived of the challenges that actually make them stronger.

HEALTH NEWS

Two surveys taken 11 years apart show a 13 percent decrease in the amount of fruits and vegetables consumed by Canadians.

And while consumption of milk and dairy products also decreased during the study period between 2004 and 2015, the Canadians were eating more meat and alternatives in 2015 than they were a decade earlier.

Researchers examined diet data from two nationwide surveys with more than 50,000 Canadians aged two years and older. In both 2004 and 2015.

While Canadians increased their intake of dark green and orange vegetables, eggs, legumes, nuts and seeds during this time, the average daily intake of other healthy diet components such as whole fruit, whole grains, fish and shellfish was stagnant. Canadians also reported fewer daily doses of liquid milk in 2015 compared to 2004.

Researchers were encouraged to find that energy from sweet drinks decreased on average by 32 calories per day and the decrease was greater among adolescents. For example, Canadian youths (13-17 years) reported that on average 73 fresh daily calories from sweet drinks – a 43 percent decrease from 2004.

RASCAL FLATTS RESTAURANTS FAILED DUE TO ALLEGED MAFIA TIES

Earlier this year, Rascals Flatts announced that they would not be moving forward with their themed restaurants, and now we know why.

According the Arizona Republic, one of the developers involved has been exposed as an alleged mobster-turned-informant who is in the Witness Protection Program.

Rascal Flatts first announced plans to open restaurants around the country in 2012 after entering into a licensing agreement that enabled the developer to use their name, logo and image. The man hired to oversee the project was named Frank Capri, born Frank Gioia Jr. According to reports, Capri would take money for the projects but would fail to pay sub-contractors, keeping the money for himself, and such was the case with Rascal Flatts’ restaurants.

Capri was also behind Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill’s 20 locations beginning in 2009, but all but one location had closed by 2015. Multiple lawsuits followed, claiming fraud and theft.

SCOTTY McCREERY SAYS PUPPY HAS ‘ROCKED OUR WORLD’ – (03/12/2019)

Scotty McCreery’s new best friend and four-legged companion is his yellow lab, Moose. Scotty and his wife, Gabi, became parents to the puppy a few months ago and have fallen head over heels in love. Scotty tells us: [“Moose is my little buddy. (I) love that guy, and he’s rocked our world in the best way possible, and he’s just all love. If you get off the couch and walk in the kitchen he’s following you. Like, he’ll follow you anywhere, always wants to cuddle and this is technically Gabi’s dog and I’m gonna get my bulldog in a couple years, but Gabi’s had the name Moose in the back of her mind for a few years now. I don’t there’s any rhyme or reason. It’s just she thought it was a cute dog name.”]

Moose recently made his very first visit to Nashville where Scotty and Gabi have a condo, while their primary residence remains in Raleigh, NC. Scotty shared pictures on his social media pages, as well as Moose’s own Instagram page, which now boasts a following of nearly 36,000 followers.

CHASE RICE SAYS SUCCESS IS SO MUCH SWEETER AFTER A FEW MISSTEPS – (03/08/2019)

Chase Rice‘s current single, “Eyes On You,” is a hit, and his first big radio hit single in a couple of years, after failed attempts with the songs that followed up his first two Top Five hits, “Ready Set Roll” and “Gonna Wanna Tonight.”

Chase admits there were some problems within his career that thwarted his efforts, but he tells us exclusively that through all that he has learned how to appreciate success so much more. [“I mean, it’s just been such a hellacious two years of fixing things, and when you’re on top of the mountain, when you first start like we did with ‘Ready Set Roll’ and ‘Gonna Wanna Tonight’ and you’re a young artist you’re like, ‘Oh my God, I can do this. This is so easy,’ and then you learn otherwise. It’s like I didn’t appreciate that back then of how easy the success came. Now I’m appreciating the ride.”]

Chase is overseas this weekend playing shows at the Country 2 Country Festival in London, Glasgow and Dublin with Keith Urban, Brett Eldredge and Cam.
