On Today’s Show
March 28, 2019 9:35 amThere’s a 55-year-old woman named Amy Vangemert in Seattle, and she has a 13-year-old toy poodle named Buhner. She said she couldn’t cope with the idea of him dying so . . . she had him CLONED.
And it worked. She paid a company $50,000 to clone him and got three copies back, which she’s named Buhner Junior, Baxter, and Ditto.
And she says she plans on continuing to keep making clones of him, so he can live forever.
The company she used will clone a dog for $50,000 and a cat for $25,000 . . . and they were in the news last year when Barbra Streisand revealed she used them to clone her dog.

The British National Health Service just published a report on a surgery mistake in Leicester, England last September . . . and it’s a BIG one.
Apparently a guy went in to have his bladder inspected with a camera . . . but the doctors got him confused with another patient and wound up CIRCUMCISING HIM instead. There’s no word on whether he sued the hospital.

ENTERTAINMENT
Will Smith will play the father of iconic tennis players Serena and Venus Williams in the biopic “King Richard”. The story will revolve around Richard Williams, who — despite having no background in tennis —instructed his daughters in the sport, starting when they were four years old — and how he overcame hardship, skepticism, and controversy. Serena has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, and Venus has seven Grand Slam singles, and the pair have combined for 14 Grand Slam doubles championships.
The “Hollywood Reporter” has supposedly confirmed that the “Breaking Bad” sequel will star AARON PAUL, and it’ll focus on his character, Jesse Pinkman.
They also say that Netflix has acquired the ‘first-run rights,’ meaning that it’ll premiere on Netflix . . . before ultimately airing on AMC, the network that aired “Breaking Bad”. There’s no word WHEN it’ll debut.
There’s no update on whether or not it’ll feature BRYAN CRANSTON, although he’s said he’d do it if he was asked . . . even though we all know Walter White is DEAD.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS
A biology professor at the University of Missouri named George Smith won a Nobel Prize last year for something he came up with in 1985 called “phage display.”
It’s a technique that’s led to revolutionary therapies involving viruses attacking bacteria.
Anyway, his Nobel win came with a $250,000 prize. But this week, he announced he’s giving ALL of that money to the University of Missouri to launch a new scholarship fund.
The school is kicking in another $300,000, and matching other people’s donations dollar-for-dollar. And they’re starting a new tradition where they’ll donate another 100 grand every time a faculty member wins a Nobel Prize. George is their first, by the way.
He did ask for one thing in exchange though. He rides his bike to school every day, and wanted to know if they’d give him his own reserved spot on the BIKE RACK outside his office.
So yeah, they’re doing that for him.

New York State Shopper Uses 36-Year-Old Coupon
A shopper at a New York state grocery store saved 20 cents on some Crisco oil using a 36-year-old coupon with “no expiration date.”
Anatoly Shashkin, store manager at the North Shore Farms store in Mineola, Long Island, tweeted a photo showing the manufacturer’s coupon used by a customer Tuesday night. The coupon, issued by Proctor and Gamble in 1983, stated it had “no expiration date,” so Shashkin decided to accept it.
The customer was able to save 20 cents off their purchase of Crisco oil. The manager said the coupon will likely be sent to Proctor and Gamble to see if they will redeem it.

BIGGEST MISTAKE DIETERS MAKE? NOT DRINKING ENOUGH WATER
Whatever diet you’re doing you must ensure one thing: that you’re drinking enough water.
Dr. Thomas Chi, a urologist, says you shouldn’t ignore your feelings of thirst. Some extreme diets tend to lead to people eating more salt, and if you’re not hydrated enough you can develop complications like kidney stones.
Furthermore, thirst is easily interpreted as hunger, which can lead you to snacking when all you really need is some water.
Another expert sums it up, saying, “On its own, drinking large amounts of water will not be enough to bring about substantial weight loss.
But it does help when included in a regimen of nutrition that accounts for a healthy distribution of macronutrients and a diverse consumption of food groups.”

Baseball Doesn’t Have a Single Active Player from the 1900s
People may say it’s old fashioned, but Major League Baseball just became the first of the four major American sports to fully join the 21st Century. There’s not a single active player in the League who played in the 1900s.
The last two were ADRIAN BELTRE, who debuted with the Dodgers in 1998 . . . and BARTOLO COLON, who got his start with the Indians in 1997. Both guys played last year for the Texas Rangers.
The thing with Colon, though, is that he’s NOT retired . . . he’s a free agent. So technically, someone COULD pick him up and ruin this cool stat. There’s probably not much call for a 45-year-old pitcher, though.
ICHIRO SUZUKI started playing pro ball in 1992 in Japan . . . but didn’t come to America until 2001. He just retired last week with the Seattle Mariners, after two games against the A’s in Tokyo. He’s 45, too.

It’s opening day for baseball, and a bunch of ballparks have insane new food options this year. Like a two-pound chicken tender at Rangers games . . . a foot-long pig-in-a-blanket at Braves games . . . and a “Coney Dog Egg Roll” in Detroit
This afternoon the Detroit Tigers open up their season in Toronto against the Blue Jays and THE HUNTER BROTHERS will be singing the National Anthem.
- A 32-year-old guy in Florida wanted to avoid his shift at Hardee’s on Tuesday morning. So he called 911 and said he’d been robbed by two guys with a gun. But the cops noticed his long rap sheet, figured out he was lying, and arrested HIM when he confessed. So . . . he did get out of work. Here’s the sheriff, who doesn’t mess around.
- The guy who sprayed Axe body spray in his mouth during a traffic stop, and people who admit being drunk when buying things online. (From Corden and Kimmel on Wednesday, March 27, 2019. Fallon, Conan, and Seth were off. Colbert missed the mark.)

Kix Brooks on the Pressures of the “Hillbilly Treadmill”
It almost seems like BROOKS & DUNN didn’t really retire back in 2010 . . . because they’ve stayed pretty active. There’s the solo stuff, their Vegas residency with Reba McEntire, and now their upcoming “Reboot” album.
But they really did call it quits as far as being a duo that would record and tour on a regular basis. And that break came at the perfect time.
KIX BROOKS says, quote, “I think it was good for both of us. There’s stuff you want to do, and when you’re on the ‘hillbilly treadmill’ there’s really no time. There wasn’t any time off for us. We went twenty years without stopping.”
He says that “hillbilly treadmill” started rolling when their first four singles went number one, and after that it was like being on a rocket ship of success. Tons of people were relying on them for their living, which was great . . . but exhausting.
RONNIE DUNN says the much-needed break allowed him to reconnect with the boss, and yes, I’m talking about his wife. Quote, “I learned how to sit for extended periods of time and go ‘I understand, honey, yes. I’m listening.'”
MAREN MORRIS DOUBTS ACM WIN, SAYS HER ‘CYCLE’ IS NEXT YEAR
Maren Morris is up for Female Artist of the Year, a category formerly called Female Vocalist of the Year, at next week’s Academy of Country Music Awards. Maren tells us she’s thrilled with not only the nomination, but the change in the category description. [“I’m excited! I love that the ACMs changed it from Female Vocalist to Female Artist, same with Male Vocalist. I never really understood the title of that category even being a nominee cause what is it? Is it like the best singer that year or is it the woman that had the biggest year? I think it should be more about like work-wise who had just without a doubt the biggest year and so I’m glad that they changed the title of it. I think that’s very cool. I don’t really think I’m gonna win cause I don’t think (laughs) this is like my year right now. I think like my cycle would be next time.”]
Maren is also set to perform with Brothers Osborne during the live ACM Awards broadcast, airing from the MGM Grand Garden Arena on CBS on Sunday, April 7th.
