Garfield-shaped phones have been appearing on France’s coastlines for 35 years — and finally, the source has been revealed.

An environmental group recently found the remains of a shipping container, along with scattered orange parts, near a hidden sea cave in western France that washed up during a storm in the 1980s. Bits and pieces of the novelty phones have been picked up almost daily for years. The cave was only accessible during low tide.

The amount of plastic waste in waters around the world has reached alarming levels.

According to the United Nations, eight million tonnes of it ends up in oceans each year. In several recent cases, dead whales were found with stomachs full of plastic junk.

A cop in Minnesota recently pulled a guy over after someone reported him for driving erratically . . . and found out he was driving with a 250-pound pig in his lap.  It turned out he was moving, and didn’t want the pig to get cold in the back of his truck.  Here’s the cop.

TODAY IS……………….

  • “International Children’s Book Day”, celebrated on the birthday of one of the most famous children’s authors, Hans Christian Andersen, born in Denmark on this day in 1805. He penned 168 fairytales in all, including “The Emperor’s New Clothes” and “The Little Mermaid

87 years ago – In 1931, during an exhibition game between the New York Yankees and the Chattanooga Lookouts, 17-year-old Jackie Mitchell, who’s A GIRL, struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig on seven pitches.

Supposedly, it was all a publicity stunt.  Either way, Mitchell’s contract with the Lookouts was soon voided by baseball’s commissioner, who said the sport was too rough for women.

COUNTRY MUSIC NOTE

APRIL 2ND, 1956          Johnny Cash recorded his classic song, “I Walk the Line”, which became his first #1. Released in May of this year it remained on the charts for over 43 weeks, and sold over 2 million copies. The unique chord progression for the song was inspired by backwards playback of guitar runs on Cash’s tape recorder while he was in the Air Force stationed in Germany.

SPLITTING THE VOTE:
Voters in an area of Prince Edward Island have an interesting choice to make in the April 23 provincial election:  Matthew MacKay or Matthew MacKay.

Yes, the incumbent, in the riding of Kensington-Malpeque, Progressive Conservative Matthew MacKay, is being challenged by Green Party rookie Matthew MacKay.  To avoid confusion, the newcomer has agreed to use his middle initial, which means his name will appear on the ballot as Matthew J. MacKay.

According to the one with the initial, the island’s Scottish settlers are partly to blame for the odd predicament…as he puts it, “The Scottish are frugal people, we recycle everything…we even recycle names.”

Although these two aren’t related, apparently there are a lot of “MacKays” in the area, and a lot of “Matthews”.

And he doesn’t expect that there will be much confusion come election day, because with only about 4,000 voters in the district, “Most of us know everybody anyway.”

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

Wouldn’t it be great if everyone could love their job this much?  There’s an 88-year-old guy near Minneapolis named Art Mason who’s finally retiring this year . . . for the SECOND time.

He used to work in a factory, and retired when he was around 60.  But he needed something to do, and his local McDonald’s didn’t have enough people.

So the manager asked if he’d want to fill in for a couple weeks . . . and those couple weeks turned into 29 YEARS working the drive-thru.  He’s outlasted every other employee . . . all the managers . . . and even the original owners.

He likes the drive-thru, because he’s a big people person.  He loves interacting with all the customers, and they love him too.  One of them even bought him a scarf recently, so he wouldn’t get cold sitting by the window.

He says he doesn’t really want to retire yet, but he’s got more aches and pains than he used to.

So he thinks it’s finally time.  His last day is May 10th, just a few days before his 89th birthday.

FORWARD TO THE PAST:
An international team of scientists claims to have reversed time.

With the use of a quantum computer, they say that they were able to turn back time in an experiment which has been compared to causing a broken rack of pool balls to roll back into place.  The way they explain it, the experiment used electrons and quantum mechanics to ‘rewind’ scattered quantum bits or ‘qubits’ back to their starting points.

Researchers from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, helped by colleagues in Switzerland and the U.S., say that their findings “break ground for investigations of time reversal and…backward time flow.”

HOW AN EARRING COULD EASE YOUR HEALTH WOES (03/29/2019)

An increasing number of people are getting their ears pierced- but it’s not for fashion.

A piercing professional from New York says he’s seen a rise in people coming to him for ear piercings of various types after their acupuncturists recommend them for treating a bunch of issues, including migraines, period cramps, and even hunger pangs.

The piercings align with specific pressure points depending on the medical request, and many say it works.

He says that he believes piercings are primarily for aesthetics, but that there is some truth to the idea that piercings can work as a “more permanent” way to hold onto a pressure point.

FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE DOESN’T VIEW FELLOW ACM DUO NOMINEES AS COMPETITION

Florida Georgia Line, Dan + Shay, LoCash, Brothers Osborne and Maddie & Tae are all competing for ACM Duo of the Year at Sunday’s (April 7th) Academy of Country Music Awards. While they’d all freely admit they want to walk away with the trophy, FGL’s Tyler Hubbard tells us he and Brian Kelley are happy for the success of any one of those acts. [“I don’t know if I feel too much of the competition, personally, with the other duos. I mean I genuinely feel like in this genre it really does kind of feel like a big family. At the end of the day there’s not too many people that can really relate a hundred and ten percent to be BK and I’s lifestyle except Dan and Shay, except Chris and Preston, and guys like that. So, really the bond is there and it’s really cool and especially for good guys like that. Like we just root ‘em on and we want them to win and I don’t feel a ton of competition necessarily.”]

In addition to Duo of the Year, Florida Georgia Line are nominated for Musical Event and Single of the Year for “Meant to Be” with Bebe Rexha. Tyler and Brian are scheduled to perform along with Jason Aldean during the show. The ACM Awards will air live from Las Vegas on CBS beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

KEITH URBAN’S DEFINITION OF ENTERTAINER IS BASED ON LIVE PERFORMANCE –

Keith Urban heads into this weekend’s ACM Awards with a pair of nominations, including Entertainer of the Year and Male Artist of the Year. Keith, who is the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year, loves to perform and thinks that being good at that is the definition of “entertainer.” [“Well, I know the criteria isn’t purely about live performance, but I’ve always felt that that’s what it is, otherwise I thought it probably should be called Artist of the Year, but I always thought it’s called Entertainer of the Year. I’ve always loved putting on concerts and tours and shows and really tried to put on something that’s incredibly entertaining and engaging. I probably obsess about that part of what I do equal to making records.”]

Keith is up against Chris Stapleton, Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney and Luke Bryan for Entertainer of the Year.

Carly Pearce Has a Serious Vomit Phobia

Nobody likes vomit.  But I doubt many people fear it as much as CARLY PEARCE. She says, QUOTE, “I have a really weird, true phobia of vomit.  I worry when I’m on my bus with my band that somebody’s gonna get sick and what would I do.

“Or in meet-and-greets, if somebody has thrown up.  I mean, it’s a thing.  I don’t know how to explain it, like, it’s real.  Anytime anybody is sick I have fears I don’t want to be around them for weeks.  Vomit is my thing.”
