On Today’s Show

Two cars in L.A. had an epic, passive aggressive standoff over a parking spot.

A black car was about to back in to a parallel parking spot on a random street, when a silver car tried to pull in.  And neither of them would back off.

They wouldn’t end it even when another spot opened up down the street.  A girl who lives across the street started documenting the whole thing on Twitter, and went viral, with people arguing over

“Team Black Car” or “Team Silver Car.”  It lasted for one and a half HOURS . . . until the car in front of the spot left, and both cars pulled in.

Canadians are known for being overly polite all the time.  But is it all just an act?  Because a new study found they also might be the biggest LIARS in the world.

Teenagers from a bunch of different countries were given a list of mathematical concepts.  And they had to say whether they were familiar with each one or not.  But several of the concepts on the list were totally FAKE.

Teens in Canada were the most likely to claim they’d heard of the fake concepts before.  Meaning they were the most dishonest.  The U.S. ranked second, followed by Australia, New Zealand, and England.  And overall, boys were more likely to lie than girls.

(To be fair, they only included eight countries in the study.  In addition to the five already mentioned, Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Scotland were also included.)

ENTERTAINMENT

“Shazam!” easily topped the weekend box office with $53.5 million, and if you include early preview screenings, it’s now up to $56.8 million.

The “Pet Sematary” remake debuted in second with $25 million.  That’s the second-highest opening weekend for a Stephen King adaptation, behind the $123 million opening for “It” in 2017.  Dumbo was third.

A “Mad About You” reboot is officially on the way, with both Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser returning to their classic sitcom roles. The new version of the show will pick back up with Paul Buchman (Reiser) and Jamie Buchman (Hunt) finding their way through married life in New York City while working as filmmakers. Not only are both starring in the reboot, the two will serve as executive producers.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

There’s a high school near Minneapolis called Farmington High that has a pretty cool robotics program.

Kids can sign up for the robotics team, and enter competitions.  It’s less about battle-bots, and more about robots that complete specific tasks.  But they recently took on an even cooler project . . .

There’s a two-year-old kid in their town named Cillian Jackson, with a rare genetic condition that makes it hard to get around.  His symptoms are similar to what you’d see with cerebral palsy.

Anyway, his parents wanted to get him an electric wheelchair.  But they cost thousands of dollars, and insurance wouldn’t cover it.  So the robotics team stepped in to help.

They bought a regular Power Wheels toy, and modified it . . . replaced all the electronics . . . added a better seat . . . and used a 3D printer to make a joystick he could use to control it.

Whenever they needed help, they got advice from a team of engineers at the University of Delaware.  But they basically did the whole thing on their own, and finished it about four months ago.  But Cillian and his parents just visited the school last week.

One of the kids who helped build it said winning competitions is one thing.  But helping Cillian felt like an even bigger win.

The Flat Earth Cruise Wants to Sail to the Edge of the World In 2020

Despite real, scientific evidence to the contrary, the Flat Earth Society is continuing its quest to convince the world that spherical planets are a hoax and the earth is flat.

In 2020, they’ll bring their message to the seas with a cruise they promise will be “the biggest, boldest, best adventure yet.”

It may seem somewhat dangerous to embark on a cruise on a flat surface, given the danger of potentially falling off the edge. Fear not, however, as the flat earth theory proposes that what we think of as Antarctica is actually a giant ice wall which “helps protect us from whatever lies beyond.” “To our knowledge, no one has been very far past the ice wall and returned to tell of their journey,” they explain on their website.

Details of the cruise are sparse, though from the popularity of theme cruises we can safely assume there will be a series of talks and discussions en route.

What almost definitely will not be discussed is how the cruise is operating; all nautical navigation is based on the fact the earth is round.

Kacey Musgraves, Dan + Shay, and Keith Urban Won Big at the ACMs

KEITH URBAN was the Entertainer of the Year at last night’s ACMs.  KACEY MUSGRAVES won Top Female Artist, and Album of the Year for “Golden Hour”. THOMAS RHETT won the other big award, taking home Top Male Artist.

DAN + SHAY also had a huge night.  They won Top Vocal Duo, and their hit “Tequila” won Song of the Year and Single of the Year.

REBA MCENTIRE hosted like the pro that she is.  You knew she’d joke about country music’s “female problem.”  Here’s the best one:  “Do you know it snowed in Las Vegas a few weeks ago?  It was so cold it froze us women out of Entertainer of the Year.”

The women may have been cheated out of the top award, but they did not let it get them down.  They had many of the best performances of the night.

MIRANDA LAMBERT didn’t add to her record 32 ACM wins but she did tear through a medley of hits to remind us why she’s a champ.  She did “Kerosene”“Gunpowder & Lead”“Mama’s Broken Heart”“White Liar”, and “Little Red Wagon”.

ASHLEY MCBRYDE showed some serious talent, bringing the crowd to their feet with an acoustic version of “Girl Goin’ Nowhere”.  And she traded lines with ERIC CHURCH during his political protest song, “The Snake”.

LITTLE BIG TOWN introduced an emotional new song called, “The Daughters”.  It’s about women’s empowerment and it really hit home with the crowd.  When it was over the camera panned to several women in the audience who were moved to tears.

LANCO brought some serious energy to the show when they did “Rival” . . . and OLD DOMINION’s performance of “Make It Sweet” had everybody out of their seats.

Traditional country was represented when GEORGE STRAIT sang “God and Country Music”, and a little later when Miranda Lambert joined him for his classic song, “Run”.

George Strait also passed the torch to JASON ALDEAN as the latest ACM Artist of the Decade.  Jason performed “Lights Come On”,“Don’t You Wanna Stay” with KELLY CLARKSON, and “Dirt Road Anthem”.  He got choked up in his thank you speech.
