On Today’s Show

There’s a guy named Carlos Silver in the Dominican Republic, and he just sang for 106 consecutive hours to try to break the Guinness World Record of 105 hours.

BUT . . . when his almost five days of singing were done, he learned he’d come up short.

Why?  The rules allowed him to take breaks of up to 30 seconds between songs . . . but the video footage showed he took a few breaks that were two minutes.

So yeah, he wasted 106 hours because of just a couple of minutes.

People in Jackson Mississippi are on alert, because someone is leaving random bowls of mashed potatoes in people’s front yards.  People have found it on their porches, mailboxes, and cars.  No one knows why, and some people are worried that the mashed potatoes are poisoned.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

No one actually reads the fine print for things like iTunes user agreements, right?  Well, a travel insurance company in Florida called SquareMouth recently decided to test that theory with a secret $10,000 contest.

The only place they mentioned the contest was in the fine print of one of their travel insurance forms.  They buried the instructions way down in the middle of page seven, and didn’t tell anyone about it.

The instructions said that the first person who mentioned the contest would get the $10,000 prize.  And if no one noticed within a year, they were planning to give the money to charity.  They actually thought that’s what would happen.

But it turns out there ARE people out there who read these things.  59-year-old Donelan Andrews teaches at a high school about 60 miles south of Atlanta.  She always reads EVERY user agreement and contract she signs.  And she spotted it on DAY ONE.

She thinks that reading contracts is really important, and even hides secret questions in her students’ tests.  So if they pay attention and read carefully, they can get extra credit.

She bought an insurance policy from the company . . . read the whole contract . . . and got in touch with them about 23 HOURS after they launched the contest.  So they gave her a check for $10,000 last week, plus an extra 10 grand to help out her school district.

Things You Should Be Cleaning More Than Once a Year

Spring cleaning is about stuff you only need to clean once a year, like your gutters or maybe your garage.  But here are six things you should be cleaning a lot more often than that . . .

  1. Your microwave.  You might think using it kills all the bacteria in there, but it doesn’t.  So ideally, you should wipe it down once a week, and deep clean it every two weeks.

  1. Your bathtub, also once a week.  Not everyone has time for that, but here’s some motivation.  A recent study looked in different places for the type of bacteria that causes staph infections.  Only 6% of garbage cans had it . . . compared to 26% of tubs.

  1. The inside of your fridge, once a month.  Salad and meat drawers can have 750 times more bacteria than what’s considered safe.

  1. Your computer and your desk, once a week.  70% of Americans eat lunch at their desk . . . but 10% admit they almost NEVER clean their computer.

  1. Your mattress, every two months.  Most people just flip it once a year, which you should also do.  But cleaning it is pretty easy.  Just sprinkle some baking soda on there . . . vacuum it up . . . and spray it with Lysol to kill any bacteria.

BROOKS & DUNN RECALL ACM AWARDS GAVE ‘HUGE BOOST’ TO EARLY CAREER – (04/04/2019)

Brooks & Dunn will return to the stage of the ACM Awards for the first time in a few years.

Until last year, the duo were the the most-awarded act in ACM history with 29 until Miranda Lambert took home her 30th trophy in 2018. Kix told reporters that their good friend and the show’s host, Reba McEntire, took pleasure in rubbing that in. [“Reba just had such a big time telling the world that Miranda last year had surpassed us in awards at the ACMs. She was so giddy about that. What is wrong with her? ‘Oh, and I got some news, yeah. Miranda just passed Brooks & Dunn. I bet they hate that ha ha ha ha.’ (Reporters laugh). It’s not funny.”]

An Adorable St. Jude’s Patient Interviews Jake Owen, and Cracks Him Up

JAKE OWEN did a different kind of interview last weekend at the ACMs.  He answered questions from a young girl named Londyn, who’s a patient at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

She asked if he had a superpower of his choice, what would it be?  He said, quote, “My superpower would be that we could all feel really, really good.  That we could feel good all the time and [be] healthy.”

And then Londyn cracked him up with what her superpower would be.  Quote, “I would want to be invisible and steal all people’s money.  Or either snap my fingers, and [they] would come up to me.”
