A retired teacher in L.A. was jogging on a treadmill at his local gym on Tuesday morning, when he got hit by a car.  A woman smashed her red Mercedes SUV through the glass wall in front of him, and took out a couple treadmills.  He got thrown into the back wall and covered in glass, but he’s okay.  The woman tried to leave, but an off duty cop stopped her.  It’s not clear why it happened.  Here’s the teacher and a gym employee.

The local news in Georgia interrupted coverage of the Masters on Sunday afternoon, to do a tornado watch . . . and their meteorologist got death threats because of it.  They did a split screen for ten minutes, so people could see the Masters but not hear it, while they tracked a severe storm in the Atlanta area.  And a tornado did touch down an hour outside of Atlanta.  She addressed it on air later that day, and said the backlash was disgusting.

ENTERTAINMENT

AMC has confirmed plans to launch a third “Walking Dead” series in 2020 that seeks to bring “new life” to the hit zombie franchise. The upcoming, as yet untitled drama series will stand alongside its predecessors “The Walking Dead” and “Fear the Walking Dead”, in an effort to allow the universe to grow. The third series, which will shoot in Virginia, will feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it.

Ryan Reynolds is behind “Don’t,” an original game show that has been picked up by ABC. “Don’t” is described as a “comedic physical game show” in which families of four are asked to perform various challenges. Each episode will focus on one family as they go through the “Don’t” tests. If they succeed, they’ll win a cash prize. But if the family fails a challenge, one of them will be eliminated. When just one contestant is left, the last remaining family member must compete on their own. Ryan Reynolds will co-executive produce the show.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

A guy named Jay Singh moved to the U.S. from India about 12 years ago, and owns a 7-Eleven in Toledo, Ohio.  And last Saturday, he caught a teenager stealing from him, but decided NOT to press charges.

He noticed the kid acting suspicious, then called him out on it and told an employee to call 911.

The kid asked if he could just put the stuff back and leave.  But Jay made him put all of it on the counter, and it was all FOOD.

When he asked the kid why he was stealing, he said he was hungry.  And he was trying to get food for his younger brother too.

So Jay told the cops not to come.  Then he filled up a whole BAG with food, and GAVE it to the kid.

A customer named Cedric Bishop was there, and said the whole exchange made him pretty emotional.  Then he posted about it on Facebook, and the news picked it up.

Jay says he just didn’t want to ruin the kid’s life over it.  And in India, it’s considered a blessing to give food to someone who’s hungry.

BIOLOGICAL LIFE HACKS:
☞ When running, to go faster, pump your arms faster than your legs:  Your legs will follow suit.  Since the arms counter the legs, pumping the arms will cause the legs to move faster.  This technique is mainly used by sprinters.

☞ To see more clearly, make a hole by curling the fingers and look through it:  Believe it or not, doing so allows short- or long-sighted people to see or read something that they normally couldn’t without glasses.

☞ Fasting during a flight can help you avoid jet lag:  You can manipulate your body’s biological clock by manipulating your feeding clock.  When taking a long flight, do not eat at the airport or while aboard the plane.  Drink plenty of water, and eat close to local meal times when you land.

☞ A warm shower before bed can help you fall asleep much faster:  The shower spikes your body temperature.  After you towel off, you feel a chilling effect. This lowers your body temperature, indicating to the brain that it’s time for sleep.

☞ To stop hiccups, eat a spoonful of creamy peanut butter very slowly:  Take a spoonful of peanut butter and hold it in your mouth for five seconds. Then, swallow it very slowly. You will notice that your hiccups will stop immediately.

☞ To cure a headache, pinch the area between your thumb and index finger:  This is called ‘acupressure’.   Pinch the area for 10 seconds. Then, using the thumb of your other hand, make small clockwise circles on this area for 10 seconds. Then make anticlockwise circles for 10 seconds. Then repeat the whole process on the other hand.

NETFIX:
Binge-watching may not be a totally new concept, but it is quickly becoming the new normal.

A Netflix study found that 61% of users binge-watched shows regularly.  And that was 6 years ago.  So, what is it that makes us decide to watch just one more episode as the clock ticks past midnight on a worknight?

It’s because your brain treats binge-watching like an addiction. A Clinical psychologist says that binge-watching a show produces a continuous stream of dopamine in our brains.

Like some drugs, that tells your brain, “This feels good. You should keep doing this!”

And just like gambling and other behavioral addictions, binge-watching eventually produces less dopamine, and it takes more of the same activity to get the same feeling of enjoyment, making it even harder to stop.

Disney Finally Releases the Pricing, Premiere, and Launch Details for Its Would-Be Netflix Killer, Disney+

Disney has FINALLY released a bunch of information on their upcoming streaming service, Disney+.  They’re hoping it’s a Netflix-killer, but in reality, it’s yet ANOTHER streaming service that’s reaching for your wallet.

Here’s what we know:

Disney+ will launch November 12th . . . and it’ll cost $6.99 a month, which isn’t bad.  But enjoy it while it lasts . . . that’s probably just the introductory price, and at some point they’ll start jacking it up, Netflix-style.

You can also save a few bucks by choosing the $69.99 annual plan.

Like Netflix, there won’t be any ads.  And Disney will likely bundle Disney+ with its other streaming products, ESPN+, and Hulu, but there aren’t any details yet.

On Day One, it’ll be stocked with programming from across their vast library, including 18 Pixar movies, 13 animated classics that have previously been locked inside the Disney ‘vault,’ all the “Star Wars” films . . .

Marvel titles like “Black Panther” and “Captain Marvel”, some 250 hours of National Geographic programming, 100 Disney Channel Original Movies, and “nine exclusive originals.”

Also, Disney+ will become the EXCLUSIVE streaming home for the entire 660-episode-plus library of “The Simpsons”.  They acquired the show as part of their recent acquisition of 21st Century Fox.

There will be new stuff too . . .

They’ve announced multiple Marvel shows:  Tom Hiddleston will star in “Loki”.

Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan are teaming up for “The Falcon and Winter Soldier”.  And Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany will reprise their roles as Wanda Maximoff and The Vision in a series titled “WandaVision”.

Notre Dame caught on fire yesterday . . . the famous 850-year-old cathedral in Paris, not the college.  It’s not clear what caused it, but it had been undergoing restoration efforts.  It took 400 firefighters to get it under control, but not before the spire on top collapsed and two thirds of the roof was destroyed.  We’re talking oak from the 13th century.  The two main stone towers in front weren’t damaged.  Crowds of people in Paris sang hymns outside while it happened, to show solidarity.

THOMAS RHETT DESCRIBES UPCOMING ALBUM AS ‘VERY NOSTALGIC’

Thomas Rhett’s upcoming album, Center Point Road, digs back in time to his formative years growing up in a suburb of Nashville. He tells us: [“Center Point Road is a street that I grew up on 20 minutes north of Nashville in a town called Hendersonville, and so much of the songs on this album really were shaped from just past experiences of being in high school and in college and being young and successes and failures and all the firsts and all the disasters in your life. I think I got to pull out of inspiration from that so on this record I kind of went a little more rootsy and just very, very, very nostalgic on this record so I think people are gonna really enjoy it.”]

Center Point Road will be released on May 31st.

Carrie was out on the road promoting her latest album, Cry Pretty, when the movie people came calling. She tells us: [“They sent us the movie to watch ‘cause I definitely wanted to get to see it before I could say yes, I want to be a part of that, and the second it was over, I said, ‘Yes. I want to be a part of this.’ It’s such an inspiring movie. I just think it something that everybody will be able to relate to in some way or another, and it’s such an inspiring film. I cried my way through it. I was bawling about 10 minutes in (laughs), in a good way, but, yeah, I’m just always happy when I can be part of things that can inspire and I was honored that they wanted to use ‘Love Wins’ in the movie.”] SOUNDCUE (:36 OC: . . . in the movie.)
