A five-year-old boy in Wyoming called 911 Sunday morning . . . to ask for McDonald’s.  He was using a deactivated phone his grandma had around, but he figured out how to hook it up to WiFi and make an emergency call.  Anyway, the dispatcher said no.  But a cop checked on the home, passed a McDonald’s, and picked some up food for the kid after all.

A 54-year-old woman in Coachella, California was arrested for animal cruelty the other day, after a security camera caught her tossing a bag filled with seven newborn puppies in a dumpster outside an auto parts store.  A guy started picking through the trash 15 minutes later, found the puppies, and left them in front of the store, where a customer found them.  A reporter talked to the customer and a few employees about it.  The puppies are fine and being put up for adoption.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

A 37-year-old guy in Texas named Walter Gordy was diagnosed with lymphoma about five years ago, and beat it.  He’s now cancer free.

Then after his diagnosis, he wanted to see if he was predisposed to any other illnesses.  So he took a DNA test through 23andMe.

Meanwhile, a good friend of his named Mark Tolson also signed up for 23andMe.  And after being friends for 12 years, they found out they’re RELATED.

Both of them were raised by single mothers who did artificial insemination.  And it turns out they chose the same donor.  So Mark and Walter have the same dad.

Walter recently got a phone call, and thought Mark was inviting him to a party or something.  But he was really calling to tell him they were HALF-BROTHERS.  Which was a big deal, because neither of them had siblings.

It turns out their moms know each other too.  They’ve been singing in the same church choir for over a decade.

It’s Rude to Ask for a Friend’s WiFi Password? Plus, the Top Ten ‘House Rules’

A new survey in the U.K. asked people to name the top rules you’re expected to follow at someone’s house.  And I didn’t even know this was rude:  Over a quarter of people said it’s impolite to ask for the WiFi password.

Apparently, it’s even ruder if you do it right when you get there.  So you’re supposed to wait at least 30 minutes.  And 1 in 10people said they’ve REFUSED to give out their password before.  Here are the ten most common rules you’re expected to follow in someone’s house . . .

  1. Take your shoes off at the door.
  2. No shoes on the sofa.
  3. Always flush the toilet.  So the “let it mellow” ” rule doesn’t apply if you’re a guest.
  4. Use a coaster.
  5. No phones at the dinner table.
  6. No swearing, especially if they have kids.
  7. Put the toilet seat down.
  8. Wash your hands before dinner, or they’ll think you’re gross.
  9. Put on slippers and socks when you enter the house.  (???)
  10. Don’t assume you can go anywhere in the house.  Some rooms could be off limits, like a bedroom or bathroom.

Why Can’t I Eat Just One Chip? Study Explains Science of Crunchy Foods

Even strong-willed individuals can’t eat just one chip. Although the snack’s high salt and fat content make them irresistible, researchers found another reason it’s so easy to devour a bag of sour cream and onion spuds–and it has nothing to do with taste. People are more likely to eat more chips when they’re labeled “crunchy,” according to a study.

Scientists found that study participants consumed more chips and candy while watching a movie when their snack bags were labeled as crunchy. They also discovered it takes more than just good marketing to make people overeat. People also consumed more chips from their “crunchy” labeled bags when they weren’t distracted by wearing headphones and better able to hear the sound of their snacks.

Essentially telling you that something is crunchy makes you pay attention to the sounds of your food, which increases enjoyment.

BROOKS & DUNN CONSIDERING NEW STUDIO ALBUM

Brooks & Dunn are riding high at the top of the Billboard Country Albums chart this week with Reboot, their first collaborative project in several years. Their last studio album, Cowboy Town, was released in 2007, and since then the guys have both pursued solo projects as well as playing numerous live concert dates in Las Vegas with their buddy Reba McEntire.

Ronnie recently told reporters that he and Kix just might be open to recording another album together, despite what their manager advises. [“I mentioned something to our manager. We were talking about going out and doing some shows. I said, ‘Should we throw (in) a new song or two,’ cause we write all time. We still write, and he just spun around and he goes, ‘You go see Springsteen what do you go see? New stuff?’ (Kix laughs) I’m not equating us to Springsteen but that was the analogy that he pulled out. ‘Elton John, you want to hear Elton John’s new stuff?’ So that said, yeah, we’re thinking about it (laughter). We didn’t get here by following the rules (laughter).”]
