On Today’s Show

A 53-year-old woman was kicked off a Frontier flight from Vegas to North Carolina on Saturday, and arrested, all for complaining about vomit on her seat.  She says the flight attendants wouldn’t help her, and told her and her 14-year-old daughter to clean it themselves.  They say she was being disruptive.  So they had everyone deplane, and she was put in handcuffs.

Gas prices in Vancouver continue to hit new highs currently around $1.75 a litre and thieves are resorting to new things to steal gas.

John Peters says that someone drilled into his tank to steal some gas.

He’d parked his truck with a quarter tank of gas to get to work but on his way home the gas light went off, so he stopped to tank up.

“Put $130 gas in it … I come home, and noticed there’s half a tank of gas left in my tank. So I’m thinking something’s going on, sure enough three-eighths of an inch hole in my gas tank.”

Peters made a homemade plug, but said he’ll eventually have to get the damaged fixed.

That could be a pricey with a gas tank costing as much as $1,000 — or at least the $300 deductible, if claimed under insurance.

What really upsets him is that the thief barely made off with any fuel he estimates maybe 3 litres but as he says if you do that to several vehicles you’ve got a full tank.

Waking Up to Music Instead of an Alarm Gets You Out of Bed Faster and More Alert

Time to dig up your old clock radio, because it turns out it was WAY better for you than waking up to that horrible alarm sound on your phone.

According to a new study out of Australia, when you wake up to MUSIC instead of an alarm, it can get you out of bed faster, and help you feel less sluggish and more alert.

They found it’s especially true if you wake up to songs that have catchy, upbeat melodies.  The songs they used in their test were “Good Vibrations” by the Beach Boys and “Close to Me” by The Cure.

Why does music help you wake up?

The researchers believe it’s because the melodies do a better job than an alarm sound at holding your attention . . . which helps your brain get going.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

There’s a guy in Indianapolis named Randy Etter who’s trying to be an R&B singer.  So money’s tight.

And he recently found out he needed a big chunk of change to save his dog’s LIFE.

His pit bull Gemini ate a sock and part of a plastic bottle.  And it got lodged in his intestines.  So he needed a VERY expensive surgery that Randy couldn’t afford.  It was going to cost between three and six THOUSAND dollars, and it had to happen fast.

Then to make things worse, Randy got FIRED from his day job for not showing up, because he was busy driving Gemini back and forth to different vets.

But he was still willing to do anything to save his dog’s life.  So he decided to put his CAR up for sale online.  And he listed it for $1,000 less than it was worth, just to sell it.

Luckily, he didn’t have to though.  Because a non-profit group called the S.O.A.R. Initiative heard about him, and posted the story on Facebook.

People were amazed at how Randy was willing to give up everything to save his dog.  So donations started pouring in . . . and random strangers ended up donating around THREE GRAND to cover the surgery.

One of Randy’s friends also loaned him $2,000 to help.  And Gemini is doing great now.  The surgery worked, and he’s already back to normal.

People Are Fighting on Reddit about What It Means to ‘Split the Bill’

It started with an innocent question on Reddit.

In a post titled “What does ‘split the bill’ mean to you?” a user said: “The question came from me seeing a post from a girl who offered to split the bill and was disturbed when a guy started calculating exactly what he ordered.

Obviously, she thought that “splitting” meant dividing the whole sum in two equal parts.

So, does “splitting the bill” always mean everybody pays for themselves, no matter if it’s a date, two pals hanging out, a group of friends or any other possible scenario?

Doing the math of working out exactly what you ate and drank down to the penny isn’t exactly a great look on a date, but confusion over what splitting means can be a real cause of awkwardness.

Turns out, everybody has their own system. “Split with friends is everyone pays for what they ordered,” said one commenter, adding: “Split with a significant other is 50/50.” Ultimately, nobody is right and nobody is wrong when it comes to splitting the bill. It can mean either thing:

Dividing the bill by the number of parties, or paying for what you ordered. Both are common practices.

Exercise Can Make You Gain Weight? Plus, Ten Most Common Excuses for Not Working Out

Here’s your newest excuse for not working out:  A new study found exercise can actually make some people GAIN weight.  And no, it’s not from packing on more muscle . . .

A team of researchers monitored people after they started working out three days a week.  And the average person ate more after a workout . . . because they felt like they DESERVED it.

The average person upped their portion size by 24% after a workout, or about 150 calories.  And not all of them burned that many calories in their workout.  So in the end, they actually gained a little weight.

But with that said, they also exercised and got their heart rate going.  So obviously it’s still good to exercise.  Just be careful about rewarding yourself too much.

Another new survey also looked at workout habits, and found the most COMMON excuses we use for not exercising.  And #1 is, “I’m too tired” . . . 63% of us have used that one.

“It’s too hot out” . . . “It’s too COLD out” . . . “I have too much work to do” . . . and “the gym is too far out of the way.”

THOMAS RHETT LEARNS FROM ATTENDING OTHER ARTISTS’ CONCERTS – (04/26/2019)

Thomas Rhett is a huge fan of all kinds of music and loves to take in as many concerts as he can. As much as he’s there for to sing along to his favorite songs, Thomas tells us he takes every opportunity to observe and learn, much like he did at a recent Drake concert in Nashville. He attended that show with his producer. [“I was in his ear the entire night going, ‘We should try that. We need to do that.  That probably cost a half million dollars a night. We can’t do that.’ I love more than anything going to shows of people that I feel like continually, year by year, set the bar. You go to those shows not only to have a blast but to learn, because those are the people that are the trendsetters and the people that every year you know that when they open an awards show it’s going to be the sickest thing you’ve ever seen. And going to Drake, it was really, really neat to watch all the chances and risks he took as far as production goes, and the merch, like, you learn so much from going to a lot of different shows.”]

Thomas is now in the midst of his brand new Very Hot Summer Tour, which kicked off in Canada on Wednesday (April 24th) night with special guest Dustin Lynch.  The tour is named after a song on his new album, Center Point Road, which will be released on May 31st, featuring his latest hit single, “Look What God Gave Her.”

SHERYL CROW RELEASES DUET WITH THE LATE JOHNNY CASH – (04/22/2019)

Sheryl Crow has released a duet with the late Johnny Cash. “Redemption Day” was a song she wrote following a trip to Bosnia with then-First Lady Hillary Clinton. Her solo version originally appeared on her Grammy-winning, self-titled, 1996 triple Platinum album.

In 2003, before recording it himself, the Man in Black, wanted to talk to her. Shery said, “He asked a lot of questions about different lines and what I meant. He didn’t want to put his voice to the song without being able to believe it heart and soul.” He told her that he felt it was the cornerstone of his next album, which wasn’t released until several years after his death.

The duet of the song and video was released on Friday, (April 19) and will be included on Sheryl Crow’s next album which is slated for release in late summer.
