On Today’s Show
May 2, 2019 9:30 amOntario’s transportation minister says the province is looking at launching pilot projects and public consultations to review speed limits across highways.
Minister Jeff Yurek says he believes “The 400-series highways were built for, a speed limit of 120 km/h safely,”.
Raising speed limits is among a few items the government is looking at within the next week.
Details on which highways would have increased speed limits, or exactly how high limits would increase have yet to be revealed. He also touched on looking at increasing fines for slow-moving drivers that travel in the left-hand lane.

According to a new study out of Switzerland, believe it or not, men’s BEARDS are more likely to be filled with germs and bacteria than dog fur.
The researchers sampled men’s beards and some dogs’ fur, and they found that 100% of the men had high microbial counts in their facial hair . . . versus about three-quarters of the dogs.
And almost half the men had bacteria in their beards that could make someone sick.

Keira Knightly was on The Tonight Show and explaining that the hat she wore in “Love Actually” wasn’t a fashion choice . . . it was to cover a huge pimple she had on her forehead. She was 17 when they filmed it.
The “Wall Street Journal” says that Netflix users spent more time streaming “The Office” than any other show last year. And “Friends” was second, which is why Netflix paid $100 million to keep it.
Sources say there have already been internal discussions about yanking “The Office” from Netflix. It’s unclear when that would happen, but Netflix’s $100 million deal for “Friends” reportedly lasts through this year.
All nine seasons of “The Office” are currently streaming on Netflix.
By the way, of the rest of the top 10 shows on Netflix based on minutes-watched in 2018 only two of those are Netflix Originals: “Orange Is the New Black” and “Ozark”.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS
A 50-year-old in Chicago named Robert King was driving home from work the night before Easter. And he saw a van that had just been T-boned at a stoplight.
So, he pulled over to see if they were okay. And they were. But they asked if he’d give them a ride to the hospital anyway. Here’s why . . .
It turned out the van was a medical vehicle. And they were delivering three ORGANS to a nearby hospital for two different transplant patients. They had several boxes with them containing a liver, kidney, and pancreas. And they had to get to the hospital, or they’d miss their window to use them.
Robert told them to jump in . . . drove them the rest of the way . . . and helped save two lives. The liver went to one patient, and the kidney and pancreas went to another.
The hospital gave him an award last Wednesday, and he said he’s just a big believer in the golden rule . . . to treat people the way you’d want to be treated.
A transplant organ has been delivered by drone for the first time. They did it at a hospital in Baltimore ten days ago, and it was a kidney. It flew through the city for three miles, a little after midnight.
They’re calling it a pioneering breakthrough, because 2,700 kidneys get thrown out every year . . . they can’t get them to patients fast enough. The kidney went to a 44-year-old woman who’d been on dialysis for eight years.
She was released from the hospital four days later. Here’s the launch and the landing.

ICE, ICE BURGER:
It might be the weirdest idea that you’ve ever heard of, but if you are firing up the barbecue this weekend, give it a shot. According to “MasterChef” judge Graham Elliot, you can make a perfect burger at home, and it’s a lot easier than you might think. He says they key to grilling an excellent juicy hamburger is to put an ice cube in the middle of the patty, fold the meat around it, and then grill it.
That way, the ice keeps the patty moist so it doesn’t dry out. Bizarre, but don’t knock it until you try it. Another tip to avoid dry patties: Don’t bite into your meat right away. If you let it sit for five minutes after taking it off the grill, the juices that have pooled in the center of your burger will reabsorb into the rest of the meat.

Average Adult Now Spends 6 Hours and 24 Minutes a Day Sitting
How many hours a day do you spend sitting if you add up all the time at your desk, on your couch, and in your car?
A new study found the average adult in the U.S. now spends 6 hours and 24 minutes a day on their butt . . . almost an hour more than we did a decade ago. And it might be even higher now, because they only looked at stats through 2016.
Computers and phones are the main reason we’re sitting more. And Netflix hasn’t helped either. Here are four new stats on screen time . . .
- In 2016, the average teenager spent even MORE time sitting . . . 8 hours and 12 minutes a day. So that’s 1 hour and 48 minutes longer than the average adult.
- 65% of adults and 59% of teens spent at least two hours a day watching TV or online videos. That includes 23% of us with at least four hours of viewing time a day.
- 50% of adults and 57% of teens spent at least one hour a day on a computer OUTSIDE of school or work. And a quarter of us spent at least THREE hours of our spare time on computers.
- 36% of adults say there’s no way they could go 24 hours without looking at a screen. And 40% can’t remember the last time they did it.
