You know those famous statues of GIANT HEADS on Easter Island?

Apparently, they’re getting damaged and could be in real danger . . . all because tourists ignore the rules to stay back, trample right over protected lands and graves, and walk right up to take selfies where they’re PICKING the statues’ NOSES.

One expert on tourism on Easter Island says, quote, “I’m troubled by the lack of genuine tourist interest in the island and its people . . . it seems many wish only to insert themselves into history by taking a selfie.”

SUNSCREEN IS ABSORBED INTO OUR BLOOD AT HIGH CONCENTRATIONS

Using sunscreen is supposed to help keep us safe from the sun’s harmful effects, but it turns out sunscreen itself can be harmful.

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association finds that the chemical oxybenzone, which absorbs UVA and UVB rays, gets absorbed in our blood in concentrations up to 419 times higher than what is considered safe. still, scientists say this shouldn’t discourage people from using sunscreen.  Here’s a doctor to explain.

DOES THIS TASTE BUGGY?
An Australian researcher says we need to look at how eating maggots, locusts and other “alternative” proteins might result in sustainable food resources for the world’s ever-increasing population.

Louwrens Hoffman says that someday, conventional livestock will not be able to meet the global demand for meat so we should be experimenting with adding insects and other non-traditional sources of protein to a range of speciality foods.

He says that Western consumers who might recoil at the idea of eating insect-based meals might try them if they are processed and disguised, or hidden inside familiar favorites.

Yes, Moms Really Do Love Getting Flowers and a Card for Mother’s Day

Two different surveys just came out that looked into what moms REALLY want for Mother’s Day.

And apparently women really do love getting flowers . . . a card . . . or anything sentimental.  Because all three of those things made the top five on both lists . . .

The first survey found the top ten things moms want this year are:  Flowers . . . a spa day . . . a card . . . a day to themselves . . . something sentimental . . . a day with no chores . . . jewelry . . . something homemade . . . candy . . . and clothes.  (Only 1% of women in the survey said electronics are the #1 thing they want.)

The second survey found the top things moms want are:  A nice meal at a restaurant . . .  flowers . . . a card . . . something their child made them . . . something sentimental . . . perfume . . . jewelry . . . clothes . . . a massage . . . and a spa package.  (So a spa day, jewelry, and clothes also made both lists.)

Four Things to Do Right Before a Job Interview

There are lots of things you can do in a job interview that make you stand out.  But here are four things you should do right BEFORE an interview . . .

  1. Arrive early, but don’t go inside.  You can’t be late OR too early.  So find a coffee shop or restaurant where you can wait, so you won’t have to worry.  Running late for an interview makes you even more nervous.

  1. Stop rehearsing.  Practicing for interviews is okay.  Just maybe not RIGHT before you go in, because you can end up sounding too scripted.  Being conversational is almost always better.  So just try to relax and clear your head.

  1. Don’t put yourself in a position where you have to cram for your interview.  You should research the company and know your talking points WELL ahead of time.  It’s a lot more stressful when you’re googling them on your phone in the parking lot.

  1. Avoid any excess stress.  Which might include things like reading the news or checking your email.  If those things help you RELAX, go for it.  Just don’t do anything that adds to your stress.  And as corny as it sounds, thinking happy thoughts really can put you in a better frame of mind.

OLD DOMINION CLAIM ANOTHER NUMBER ONE

Old Dominion is enjoying success with “Make it Sweet” which made a connection with fans and more importantly, got a reaction. Old Dominion’s Matthew Ramsey says that no matter how they perform their music, production-wise, they always have one goal — to get people’s attention.[“We want people to go, ‘What is this?’ We do concentrate on creating that immediate reaction, so we don’t want it to just sound like a commercial. It should sound like something that makes someone look at their radio when they’re driving, which is a funny thing to do, cause people, you do look at your radio(laughs) when you hear something but you definitely, we want that reaction.”]

Old Dominion just wrapped up the west coast run of their Make It Sweet tour at the Stagecoach Festival in California.

JORDAN DAVIS IS READY TO CELEBRATE HIS MOM

Jordan Davis plans to celebrate his mom on Sunday (May 12th), Mother’s Day. The singer freely admits that he is all about his mom, someone he tells us he definitely tries to emulate: [“I’m a Mama’s boy. I love my Mom, and it’s the way she finds the good in everything. With my Mom, as opposed to finding anything negative, she’s gonna find something positive first. That’s something I really hope I can be more like her on; one of the many things I wish I could be more like my mom on. My mom, she loves flowers, so we’ll get her flowers or take her to, we’re slowly getting her into sushi, so we love to take Mom out to sushi spots on Mother’s Day (laughs).”]

JIMMIE ALLEN IS READY FOR HIS CLOSE UP

Jimmie Allen is trying to live his best life, having found success in country music and now incorporating acting into his schedule. [“I’ve had a few movie opportunies come by. I’ve had to turn a few down just cause of timing. I’ve got a TV show I’m starting to work on. I got a pretty big role, offer that just came in. We start filming that in June. I think next year I’m taking a month off — or maybe end of this year I think I’m gonna take about a month off and do a residency on Broadway cause I love musical theater. I did it in high school, college, post-college. I’m like man, let’s strike while we can. You only live once so . . . Everybody said, ‘You should focus on music first.’ Why? (laughs) Like if I got time to do it and you love it, do it. If it works, it works. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t. I just want to be creative and do everything I’ve been wanting to do.”]

Jimmie is already a favorite on NBC’s Today show where in addition to performing several times, he has co-hosted the show and contributed to their “Guys Tell All” segment.
