Toronto Raptors 92, Philadelphia 76ers 90 — Toronto wins series 4 games to 3

The Toronto Raptors eliminated the Philadelphia 76ers from the playoffs last night, thanks to a wild buzzer beater by Kawhi Leonard that bounced off the basket rim four times before falling in to give the Raptors the win in the game and the Eastern Conference semi-final series. It was the first winning buzzer-beating shot in a Game 7 in NBA history.

A guy in Florida let his grass grow too long, didn’t know he was being fined, and now could lose his house over the unpaid fines.  We’re talking 57 days of $500-a-day fines . . . almost $30,000.  He says he was away taking care of his mom’s estate, and limitless fines are unfair.  So, he’s suing the city.  Here’s the guy and his lawyers.

In case you need some more nightmare fuel, here it is: A Chinese doctor has shared video of a spider building a nest inside a man’s head.

The patient, only identified as Li, came to the hospital complaining of discomfort in his ear, and the doctor looked inside to discover the small spider building a nest in the man’s ear canal. The doctor said the spider was too small and fast to be grabbed using tools, but hospital staff were able to flush it out with water.

Guy in a Stolen Cop Car Tries to Pull Over Another Car Which Also Happens to Be Stolen

A guy stole a black Cadillac in West Palm Beach, Florida on Wednesday night.  He was driving it through Cocoa, Florida, when a cop car suddenly appeared behind him and tried to pull him over.

The car thief hit the gas . . . and wound up crashing into a HOUSE.  And apparently he was just inches away from hitting a woman who was sleeping inside.

He took off running before the cops showed up, and they’re still looking for him.

But that’s only half the story.  Because it turns out the cop car that pulled him over was ALSO STOLEN.  That’s right . . . someone had stolen a cop car and was using it to pull over random people, one of whom just happened to be that other car thief.

Shortly after the crash, the cops found out about the fake cop pulling people over.  And as they tracked down THAT car . . . that thief ALSO took off running before they got there.

So now the cops are on the hunt for both car thieves.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

Most people don’t know this, but it’s not very easy to recycle plastic.  And virtually all of it ends up in landfills, or in the ocean sooner or later.

Only about 9% of plastic waste gets recycled.  And even under perfect conditions, you can only recycle it 7 to 9 times.  Then it’s trash.  Which is why this might be huge news.

A team of researchers with the Department of Energy just created a new type of plastic that can be recycled an INFINITE number of times . . . something referred to as the “Holy Grail” of recycling.

It’s called PDK plastic.  And it’s a lot cheaper and easier to recycle than other types.  (PDK stands for poly-diketoenamine.)

The fibers in normal plastic degrade every time it’s recycled.  But this new type can be broken down on a molecular level, just by dipping it in an acid solution.

So it dissolves back into its original state, and can be used over and over again.  Which would mean less plastic in landfills, and in the ocean.

HOW MANY TEXTS CAN YOU SEND BEFORE LOOKING CLINGY?

Some say you should never double-text a romantic interest, but really, how many texts can you send before you look clingy?

A recent survey from Typing.com found that, on average, people think sending six texts in a row comes off as “clingy” or “needy.” This average held across the board– for people in long-distance relationships and couples that lived together, as well as for women and men surveyed.

Another find: 42 percent of men and 51 percent of women said “good morning” and “good night” texts are important.

Also, women said they could go 13.1 hours on average without communicating with their significant other, while men said they could go 14.6 hours on average.

We’re Drinking 70% More Alcohol Than We Were in 1990

According to a new study, the amount of alcohol people all over the world are drinking has SKYROCKETED over the past few decades . . . and it just keeps going up.

Check out these stats . . .

  1. We’re drinking 70% MORE alcohol than we were in 1990.

  1. Adults across the world drank a total of 9.4 billion gallons of pure alcohol in 2017.  That averages out to 1.7 gallons of pure alcohol per adult.

  1. That means the average adult is having roughly one drink every single day.  And when you think of all the people out there who DON’T drink . . . well, people who do are making up for them in that average.

  1. And things are projected to keep going up.  By 2030, it’s projected that about a quarter of adults in the world will binge drink at least once a month.

DAN + SHAY ON FELLOW ARTISTS: ‘WE NEED TO HELP EACH OTHER UP’

In addition to their success on both the country and pop charts these days, Dan + Shay are growing their collection of industry awards, most recently taking home Vocal Duo and Song and Single of the Year for “Tequila” at the ACM Awards last month. Those awards are voted on by Shay Mooney and Dan Smyers‘ peers, sometimes the same people they’re competing against in the category, but as Shay tells us, there’s no sense of competition because in his opinion, there’s room for everyone. [“Every artist, I think, in country music would tell you that it takes so much to get here. It’s not, ‘Man, I want to beat this other duo.’ It’s ‘these are my friends and we all put a lot of work to get where we are right now.’ I think there’s room for success for every single artist. I think there’s room for all of us and instead of trying to kick each other on the way up the ladder I think that we need to help each other up and come around and support each other and whoever it is no matter what category you fit in the country music family I think we need to lift each other up, cause we all know how hard it was to get here.”]

Dan + Shay have earned a pair of nods at the upcoming CMT Music Awards for their hit, “Speechless.” The fan-voted awards show will air live from Nashville on June 5th at 8 p.m. ET.
