A guy flying a small plane from South Carolina to Orlando ran out of fuel and had to crash land on the on-ramp of a highway in Florida.  He even hit a car in the process.  Luckily everyone is okay.  And the 911 calls are great.  Here are two of them, plus the guy whose car got hit.

The latest totally-useless and possibly harmful internet challenge is…The Cockroach Challenge!  It has people putting live cockroaches on their faces, taking a selfie, and sharing it on social media.  It quickly went viral.  Even though cockroaches are only as dirty as the environment they are living in, putting them on your face isn’t recommended. Their saliva, feces and shedding body parts can trigger both allergies and asthma.

There’s a viral challenge overseas right now where people are KISSING COWS.  Like, on the mouth. And the Austrian government has just put out a warning to people that you should remember if the challenge ever makes it over here:  Don’t kiss cows.

Forget the germs you could get for a minute . . . they say that when you sneak up on cows, they could ATTACK you, especially if they feel like their calves are threatened.  So yeah, don’t kiss cows.

ENTERTAINMENT

Jeff Daniels was on Seth last night with a funny story about the downside of doing live theater, like the plays no one showed up to see.  There would only be seven people, but after the intermission, even less.

A survey last week found most people don’t think a million dollars even makes you rich anymore.  So maybe the stakes here are just too low now?  After 20 years and almost 3,000 episodes, “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” has been CANCELED.

It premiered on ABC back in 1999 with Regis Philbin as host.  Then it moved to syndication in 2002.  Meredith Vieira did the bulk of the episodes in syndication from 2002 to 2013. Cedric the Entertainer and Terry Crews also stepped in for a while.  And Chris Harrison from “The Bachelor” has been hosting since 2015.  He’ll finish out the current season.  Then that’s it.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

A guy named Armando Markaj waits tables at a well-known pizza joint in New York called Patsy’s.  And earlier this month, a lady named Karen Vinacour was there with her adult daughter, and didn’t leave a tip.  Here’s why . . .

The walls of the place are covered in photos of famous people who’ve been there.  And she asked why there weren’t more photos of women.  So Armando joked that maybe they just don’t like pizza as much.  And they didn’t like that.  So they stiffed him and left.

But then Armando had a chance for some major payback.  Because they accidentally left an

envelope behind . . . with a cashier’s check in it for 424 THOUSAND BUCKS.

It turned out Karen was looking at apartments in the area.  The check was her down payment, and Armando COULD have deposited it since it was a cashier’s check.  But instead, he gave it to his boss so no one else would get their hands on it.

Karen freaked out when she couldn’t find the check.  Especially when her bank said she’d have to wait three months to even TRY to cancel it.  And she’s not rich.  She’s a retired social worker, and it was a huge chunk of her life savings.

“The New York Daily News “ended up tracking her down after they heard about the story.  And she offered Armando a VERY nice tip as a reward.  But he declined.  So she’s helping with school supplies, because he’s working his way through med school.

She also apologized for stiffing him.  And in the end, she kind of got what she wanted.  Because they took a photo together.  And now the restaurant is putting a photo of HER on the wall.

Less Than Half of Us Now Eat Dinner at the Dining Room Table

According to a new survey, three-quarters of us grew up eating dinner basically every night at the dining room table . . . now that’s down to 48%.

Yes, the majority of people DON’T eat dinner at the dining room table.

So where ARE we eating?

30% of people say the couch . . . only 12% of people ate on the couch growing up.  And 17% say they eat in a bedroom . . . only 6% of people did that growing up.

The survey also found 20% of people cook every single day, and 50% cook at least four times a week.

SUMMER DIET:
Dr. Patricia Farris, a dermatologist and fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, says that while it’s true that we should always wear sunscreen as well as sunglasses and hats when the weather turns warmer, when it comes to protecting yourself from the sun, eating certain foods is almost as important. Here are some of her suggestions:

➢ Tomatoes:  High in antioxidants, which are you best friends when it comes to limiting damage from the sun.  Pink grapefruit and watermelon are beneficial in this area as well.

➢ Sweet potatoes and spinach:  They are rich in beta carotene, which decreases redness in skin after sun exposure. Also: carrots, mangoes, apricots, cantaloupe and kale.

➢ Berries, grapes and pomegranate:  Contain sun-protective polyphenols, which have antioxidant properties.

➢ Oranges, grapefruit and kiwi:  loaded with vitamin C, which protects against free radical damage that can cause skin aging.

➢ Fatty fish:  The omega-3s from fish oil can make sunburn less severe and prevent the development of skin cancer. Salmon, sardines, herring and trout are good sources of omega-3s.

KEITH URBAN DIDN’T KNOW ERIC CHURCH HAD WRITTEN HIS SINGLE

Keith Urban says that when he went into the studio to record his new single, “We Were,” he had no idea that Eric Church was one of the writers. And when he contacted Eric, he had to remind him which song is was. Keith tells us more: [“He obviously writes a lot of songs, ‘cause when I texted him and asked him, ‘Are you a writer on ‘We Were?’’ And he said, ‘Is that the one with something about a water tower skyline or something?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, that one.’ He said, ‘Yeah.’” (laughs)]

FAST FACTS

“We Were” was written by Eric Church, Ryan Tyndell and Jeff Hyde.

The same three writers wrote “Springsteen” for Eric.

Charles Kelley Was Once Given a Bracelet That Honored a Fallen Soldier

One of CHARLES KELLEY’s favorite Memorial Day memories was the time LADY ANTBELLUM did a “Salute to the Troops” show.  They performed with soldiers who had served, and one of them honored him with something special.

Quote, “One of the servicemen that was performing with us gave me a bracelet.  When one of their brothers falls, a fallen soldier . . . they give him a bracelet in his honor.  It has their name and all those things, and their numbers and stuff.  But he gave it to me and said, ‘Man, if he knew that you were wearing it and being up on stage and doing this.'”

Charles didn’t want to take it.  It didn’t feel right, but the soldier insisted.

In completely different Lady Antebellum news:  The power went out at their show in Vegas the other night, so they went into the audience and did an unplugged version of their new song, “What If I Never Get Over You”.

FGL’S TYLER HUBBARD READY TO SEE HOW PARENTING TWO KIDS PLAYS OUT – (05/17/2019)

Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard and his wife, Hayley, are expecting their second child, a baby boy, on August 19th. The baby will join one-year-old big sister Olivia. Going from one to two kids is going to be an adjustment, but Tyler tells us they’re as ready as they can be and hoping for the best. [“I think it’s one of those things you don’t really know how it’s gonna play out until it’s playing out. I know we have an extra bunk on the bus for another baby so we’ll just roll with it and see what happens. We’ve done it once and it’s only been a year, so I think we’re kind of in our groove a little bit. Hopefully it’ll make it easier than waiting too long to have another one. We’re still in diapers with one, so hopefully it’ll just transition right into the next one.  And we have a lot of great help.  We have a nanny who’s really, really amazing and helpful, and I think that the key to life is really surrounding yourself with a good team.”]

The Can’t Say I Ain’t Country tour kicks off on June 13th in Rogers, AR.

Tyler and Brian will be joined by special guests Dan + Shay, Morgan Wallen and Hardy.
