An 86-year-old man in New Hampshire went to read something on his iPad last Thursday night, and got bitten by a rabid bat.  It was hiding between the back of the iPad, and where he’d folded over the cover of his iPad case.  He didn’t know it was rabid at the time . . . he let it go outside, but it died soon after.  And that’s a bad sign.  So Fish and Game told him to go to the hospital right away, he got rabies treatment, and now he’s okay.

According to a new study by a behavioral scientist at the London School of Economics, the HAPPIEST people overall are women who aren’t married and don’t have kids.  They also live longer than married mothers and are healthier than them.

Why?  He found that even though there’s a lot of social pressure to get married and have kids, all the data shows that’s NOT what makes women the happiest.

But it DOES help men.  He found that married men are happier and live longer than single men.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

A barbeque lunch and open house at the Chatham-Kent EMS headquarters was met with a surprise from an out of town family that has a tight-bond with paramedics.

Lindsay Margeson gave birth to her fourth child in 2017 while she was returning to Brantford from Wallaceburg. It was along Highway 401 that she came to the shocking realization that she was going into labour. That is when she dialled 911 and paramedics rushed to the scene to help.

Two crews, one from Chatham and one from St. Thomas, were called to assist the soon-to-be mother of four. The crew from Chatham arrived at the scene first and helped to deliver Hunter Margeson before they arrived at the hospital.

Thus the legend of the “401 baby” was born.

On Wednesday, Margeson, her son Hunter, and their family showed up to EMS headquarters to surprise the crew that helped with the birth of her fourth child.

Chatham-Kent EMS General Manager Donald McLellan said the unit keeps in contact with the Margesons.

During Hunter’s first birthday a couple of the paramedics made the trip up to Brantford to celebrate. In return, Lindsay makes attempts to make her presence felt by making appearances at events in Chatham or bringing treats for the medics.

“At Christmas, we sent them cupcakes,” she said. “It’s just appreciation… they have a job but they do more than they’re asked sometimes.”

The family continues to give back to the community in more ways than one., On April 13, 2018, the family gave a $455 cheque to the local safety village which went directly into programs at the Children’s Safety Village

DID YOU KNOW?
‘Smart’ home devices understand men better than women. An American study found that 67% of female owners say that their device fails to respond to a voice command at least sometimes, compared to 54% of male owners.

It appears that the devices are better at detecting the deeper tones of men’s voices. The study also found that women tend to speak more politely to their smart speakers, with 45% saying they always or often say “please” and “thank you”, compared to only 30% of male owners.

FOODS THAT YOU DON’T NEED TO KEEP IN THE REFRIGERATOR:
☞ Apples:  Can last a week or two at room temperature, but can get mealy quickly if kept in the fridge.  And they can cause other fruits to ripen more quickly if kept in the fridge with them.

☞ Bananas: They hold on to their nutrients better when they are kept out of the fridge. Cold temperatures actually slow down the ripening process (same with avocadoes). But there is also a lot of moisture in most refrigerators which can cause bananas to turn brown or even black.

☞ Bread:  The fridge not only dries bread out, but at cold temperatures, bread will turn stale, dry, and tasteless. Also, bread acts as a kind of sponge and it will soak up whatever odors are lingering around your fridge.

☞ Ketchup:  Doesn’t need to be stored in the fridge because it is chock-full of preservatives.  That’s why all restaurants are able to leave it on their tables all day long. ☞ Chocolate:  Although many people love cold chocolate, the ideal temperature for it is 65-68F.  Only store chocolate in the fridge if conditions are so hot that it is at risk of melting.  (As if there is any chance it being around long enough for THAT to happen…)

☞ Eggs (!!):  In many countries, eggs aren’t kept in the refrigerator in grocery stores or in homes. A study recently showed that it makes no difference whether or not you store your eggs in the fridge, so you might as well save yourself some fridge space.

  1. NBA

The Toronto Raptors beat the Golden State Warriors 118-109 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals last night . . . and it’s worth noting that Toronto is now 3-0 against Golden State this season.

Everyone talks about Kawhi Leonard, but Pascal Siakam scored a team-high 32 points for the Raptors.  That’s the most points in a Finals debut since Kevin Durant scored 36 in his first Finals game in 2012.

Speaking of Durant, the Warriors will reportedly be without him again in Game 2 on Sunday . . . and there’s no guarantee that he’s able to make it back at all.  He’s been out three weeks with a calf strain, and has yet to return to practice.

Durant was the Finals MVP in 2017 and 2018 for the Warriors.

By the way, some Raptors fans supposedly set off fireworks outside the Warriors’ hotel the night before the game . . . but the Warriors say they didn’t hear them.

This is the Warriors’ fifth straight Finals appearance.  They’re 3-1 in their first four, but THIS was the first time they’ve lost Game 1. Game two is Sunday night in Toronto

THOMAS RHETT’S ‘CENTER POINT ROAD’ ALBUM SEES RELEASE TODAY

Thomas Rhett’s new album, Center Point Road, arrives at retail today (Friday, May 31st). The project includes his latest hit single, “Look What God Gave Her,” along with duets with Kelsea Ballerini, Jon Pardi and Little Big Town.

Thomas co-wrote and co-produced all 16 songs on Center Point Road. The album was named after the street on which Thomas grew up just outside of Nashville. [“Yeah, Center Point Road, basically, is the street I grew up on 20 minutes north of Nashville in a little town called Hendersonville. A lot of people think that I’m from Georgia because my dad’s from Georgia, and technically I was born in Georgia, but we moved to San Antonio when I was two and then moved to Nashville when I was three, cause my dad signed a record deal in Nashville in ’95. But Center Point Road is a little street that I grew up on and when we wrote the song ‘Center Point Road,’ it was kind of this looking back song of like all the things that you cared about when you’re growin’ up and now the things that you don’t care about, your successes, your failures, all your firsts, all your lasts, and all that kind of happened in this little town.”]

He will perform on the main stage at Nissan Stadium in Nashville on Friday, June 7th, as well as a special acoustic Center Point Road album release event on Saturday, June 8th at Bridgestone Arena.

Jason Aldean Spends Hours Changing Up His Set List to Make It Right

This is something you don’t hear country singers talk about too much, but it’s interesting.  JASON ALDEAN says he spends hours puzzling over his set list when he’s on tour, and changes it when it doesn’t feel right.

QUOTE, “I sit down for hours and stack songs and move ’em around, almost like a puzzle, and try to figure out what works best.  But until you get on stage and start playing the songs and feel energy here . . . or less energy here . . . it’s hard to tell.”

He’s several weeks into his Ride All Night Tour right now and still finds himself in the dressing room moving things around trying to put together the perfect show.

Quote, “[Maybe] you’re playing too many ballads . . . you can find of feel it on stage.  There’s a bit of a lag.  You have to work a little hard later in the show to get them back up and going . . . so if you can fix it so you never have that, it’s a good thing.”

LUKE BRYAN TO PERFORM AT SIX NEW FARMS ON 2019 ‘FARM TOUR’ – (05/31/2019)

Luke Bryan will head out on his 11th annual Farm Tour beginning on September 26th in Marshall, WI. The six-date trek will play at farms he’s never played before, wrapping up on October 5th in Norman, OK.

[“Anytime we can take a step to help facilitate dreams and agriculture and be smarter in how the food’s being made and being safer and stuff like that, the awareness of that can never be undermined . . . If I can educate some people on it and that can be my platform, I think I’ll always, the farmers out there and the people in that world will appreciate and they’ll know I’ve kinda stayed true to my roots.”]
