ENTERTAINMENT
Mark Hamill will lend his voice as the iconic villain ‘Chucky’ in the upcoming “Child’s Play” reboot. The film will follow the same plot of the original, centering on a single mother who gifts her son Andy a toy doll, unaware that it possesses the soul of a serial killer. The original 1988 film grossed over $44 million worldwide on a $9 million budget and spawned one of the most recognizable and successful horror characters in cinema with its psychotic killer doll. “Child’s Play” will hit theaters June 21.
The house that Tony Soprano called home is up for sale 20 years after its television debut. The 5,600-square-foot home in North Caldwell, N.J., where America’s favorite fictional mobster scooped up his morning newspaper and swam with ducks, is being listed for sale by owners Patti and Victor Recchia at a “starting price” of $3.4 million.
The house, where Tony Soprano pulled into the long, curving driveway in the opening credits of the show was both a frequent filming location and the inspiration for a meticulous replica of the interiors at a Queens, N.Y. studio. Property taxes are $34,000 per year.

TODAY IS……………….
- “D-Day”, the 75th anniversary of 1944’s “Operation Overlord” invasion of Europe by Allied Expeditionary Forces during WW2. Before dawn, over 2,700 ships of every description converge on Normandy carrying 2-million tons of war materials and 155,000 troops. The password for the operation: ‘Mickey Mouse’.
- “Drive-in Movie Day”, commemorating the opening of the 1st ‘drive-in’ 86 years ago (1933) in Camden, NJ. It cost 25 cents per person or a buck-a-car to see “Wife Beware”.
- “Gardening Exercise Day”, a day to get out and workout with your plants.

“Tetris” Turns 35 Years Old Today
The game “Tetris” turns 35 today. The first playable version was finished on June 6th, 1984. But most of us played the Nintendo version that came out five years later. Here are a few more Tetris facts you probably didn’t know . . .
- It got its name from the Greek word “tetra,” which means four. And the guy who made it loved tennis. So he combined the two for “tetris.”
- The guy who created Tetris didn’t see any profits until the mid-90’s, because the Soviet government owned the rights for the first ten years.
- It’s the most ported game ever, meaning it’s been on more systems than any other video game. Guinness put the number at 65 back in 2010.
- The Game Boy version was the first video game played in space in 1993.
- The theme song is a Russian folk tune from the 1800’s
- Studies have shown Tetris can increase the thickness of your cerebral cortex by almost half a millimeter. And a study this year found it might also help with PTSD.
- An early computer version in 1987 had a “boss button” function. So if your boss walked by, you could quickly pull up a generic spreadsheet.
- The Tetris World Championships still happen every year. The next one is in Portland this October.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS
The daily commute for a Wallaceburg resident will be easier as organizations across the region have teamed up to get her a new car.
Donna Lashmore work day usually starts with a morning commute to the Chatham YMCA. Equipped with a Chevrolet Aveo which has racked up 260,000 kilometres, she worries about even making it, and if she were to miss work it would be detrimental as the pay cheque is critical for Lashmore’s daily routine.
Before being awarded the new car she was handcuffed by constant repairs. Naturally, with a reliance on transportation, there was a mixture of shock and relief when Lashmore found out she would be the recipient of a new Mazda.
“It brings down the stress level quite a bit in my world,” she said. “Coming back and forth from Wallaceburg at quarter-after four in the morning, you want something reliable, in the winter especially. So yeah it’s … wow, amazing.”
It’s been 30 years since Lashmore has driven a car with a manual transition, so for her first trip in the new car will consist of going straight to a parking lot to practice.
The whole plan came to fruition with the help of John McGregor high school. Students from the special high skills major auto shop program chipped in 10 lunch hours worth of labour for the United Way Chatham-Kent’s Rebuilding Wheels Rebuilding Lives program.
The idea was brought to the United Way thanks to the school’s auto shop teacher James Stonehouse. He was inspired to bring this program to the region after reading about how E.J. Lajeunesse high school in Windsor had incorporated it with its students.
“All because of a magazine article we now have a program in place and this family has benefited from it,” said Stonehouse, who now hopes to push the program to as far as Sarnia.
Representatives from across the region including some from Chatham-Kent family services, Lally Ford, and Chatham Mazda were on hand during the presentation in the Mazda dealership showroom on Wednesday.

A Round-Up of Good News Stories for the 75th Anniversary of D-Day
It’s the 75th anniversary of D-Day, when the Allied forces landed at Normandy in World War Two.
It was a major reason we won World War Two. And here are a few inspiring stories we’ve seen around the anniversary this week .
- Thousands of paratroopers jumped into northern France on D-Day. Including a guy from San Diego named Tom Rice, who’s 97 now. And yesterday, he did it AGAIN, landing in the same area he did back in 1944.
- A 93-year-old U.S. Navy vet named Raymond Chambers wasn’t at D-Day, but fought at the Battle of Iwo Jima in the South Pacific. And he was so tough, he didn’t realize he’d been hit by shrapnel until his doctor recently found some in his leg. So more than seven decades later, he just received three medals, including two Bronze Stars.
- A 101-year-old Air Force vet named Walter Kloc fought in World War Two. And a photo of him hugging his grandson has been going viral this week after he flew 1,500 miles to be at his Air Force Academy graduation.
- D-Day vet Jim Radford was only 15 when he served as the galley boy on a British ship at Normandy. He’s the youngest known participant, and he’s 90 now.
Back in 1969, he wrote a folk song called “The Shores of Normandy”. And for the last few days, it’s been Amazon’s TOP-SELLING SINGLE in the U.K. “I Don’t Care” by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber is second.

POSITIVELY FOUL:
A new study says that swearing not only can actually be a positive thing…it usually is.
One researcher says that most often, people use swear words to elicit humor. While swearing can yield both positive and negative outcomes, in more than 10,00 episodes of public swearing,
very few produced negative consequences.
And if your friends frequently color the air with a blue tinge, hang on to them. Those who swear a lot were found more likely to be honest and trustworthy people. Authors of the study found “a consistent positive relationship between profanity and honesty; profanity was associated with less lying and deception”.

Top Four Triggers That Make Us Check Our Phone
The average person checks their phone about 80 times a day. That’s once every 12minutes you’re awake. Why?
- Unoccupied moments, like waiting at an appointment or standing in line for coffee. We basically use our phones to avoid moments of boredom.
- Tedious and repetitive tasks. Either before we start them, or as an excuse to take a break. In other words, we use our phone as a distraction or an escape.
- When you’re anticipating a message or notification. Like waiting for someone to text you back, or checking every two minutes to see if your delivery is on the way. It wastes time and can end up making you more anxious.
- Socially awkward situations. Like when you’re waiting for friends at a bar and don’t know anyone, your phone’s DEFINITELY coming out.

- NBA
The Toronto Raptors went up 2-1 in the NBA Finals, after defeating the Golden State Warriors last night, by a score of 123-109.
It’s still early, but the Warriors might be on the ropes. Kevin Durant is still out . . . and now they’re without Klay Thompson and backup center Kevon Looney.
It’s unclear whether ANY of them will be available to play in Game Four on Friday, although Looney is probably out for good with a cartilage fracture in his ribs.
On top of that, center DeMarcus Cousins was seen limping after the game. He recently returned to action after missing most of the playoffs with a quad injury.
Despite the injuries, the Warriors put up a fight last night, largely thanks to Steph Curry, who scored 47 points.
The Raptors had much more balanced scoring. They’re just the 2nd over the last 20 years to have ALL FIVE starters score at least 15 points in a Finals game. They join the Spurs, who did it in Game Five of the 2013 Finals.

- Carrie Underwoodwas the big winner at last night’s (Wednesday, June 5th) fan-voted CMT Music Awards, taking home two trophies for Female Video for “Love Wins” and overall Video of the Year for “Cry Pretty.”
- A Dad filmed his four-year-old son on a plane, complaining about the stinky feet of the woman behind them. She had one of her bare feet sticking through the seat and up against the kid’s armrest, so she was asking for it. He poked his head through the opening and said, “Why do you have your feet behind me?” And the dad lost it.
- Your commute this morning could be worse. A guy in Montana got out of his car while he was stuck in traffic over the weekend, and started playing the bagpipes. Apparently he was on his way to an event and needed to warm up. A woman a few cars back livestreamed it on Facebook.

ERIC CHURCH LOVES SEEING FANS VISIT HIS TOWN FOR CMA FEST – (06/06/2019)
Eric Church was recently announced as a last-minute addition to this week’s CMA Fest in Nashville.
He’ll return to Nissan Stadium, where he just recently performed on his Double Down Tour — his only stadium show — and set a new attendance record with more than 56,000 fans.
Eric is a fan of CMA Fest for several reasons, not the least of which are the fans who descend on Music City from around the world. [“I like it because all year long, we go to their town and we entertain ’em, and this time of year, they’re coming to mine. I can still sleep in my bed at night and we still get to hang with ’em all day. And just as an artist, it’s a neat event. It’s a neat thing. And it’s unique to country music. I mean, if you look around at the other formats, they don’t have this — CMA Music Fest, Fan Fair. I think just to have that and to be able to see ’em, and see the same people every day, and some people schedule their entire year, vacation time and save up money to come and do this. So, to have people do that for country music — not just me personally — but country music, it’s a really, really cool thing.”]
Eric will take the stage at Nissan Stadium on Friday (June 7th), along with Little Big Town, Dan + Shay, Thomas Rhett and Carrie Underwood.
