On Today’s Show
June 27, 2019 9:35 amThe most expensive home for sale in the U.S. right now is a mansion in Bel Air, California. And it’s the house that the Clampetts moved into on the “Beverly Hillbillies”.
And it just got even CHEAPER if you want to buy. It was listed in October for $245 million, but the price just dropped by $50 million to a mere $195 million.
It’s an 11-bedroom, 18-bathroom house in Bel Air, California, with a 40-car garage, a pool, and a tennis court.

A guy in Pennsylvania was busted last week for impersonating a cop and pulling over a car . . . that had three city council members in it, including the council president. He says it’s just a misunderstanding . . . he was looking for his missing girlfriend, and he has sirens and a PA system in his car for escorting motorcycle rides.
But he’s been busted for impersonating a cop before, and he sounds pretty guilty on the local news.

ENTERTAINMENT
Michael Douglas narrated his own real estate ad. Probably because he couldn’t find a buyer . . . he initially listed the property for $60 million, and now it’s down to a mere $32 million. It’s a 19th century estate on the Spanish island of Mallorca, built by an Archduke. He bought it in 1989 with his ex wife for $3.5 million. There are ten bedrooms total on 250 acres, with the house, two cottages, five apartments, a pool, a vineyard, and olive groves.

Whitney Houston’s “Bodyguard” co-star, Kevin Costner, has dropped a bombshell on fans – That wasn’t Whitney pictured on the iconic poster for the film. According to Costner, Whitney “had gone home and that was her (stunt) double, and her head was buried into my shoulder, which was appropriate anyway. She was frightened.”
Costner instantly recognized that it would make for the perfect poster, and 27 years after its release, it is still the endearing image from the film, and one of the main reasons why it went on to gross $411 million worldwide.

TODAY IS……………….
- “Canadian Multiculturalism Day”, an opportunity to celebrate the country’s diversity and to appreciate contributions of various multicultural groups and communities to Canadian society.
- “Pineapple Day”, whether you’re eating a pineapple upside down cake or sipping a piña colada, be sure to celebrate with pineapples in some way! Pineapples were such a status symbol in 18th century England that you could rent one for the evening to take to a party.
- “Sunglasses Day”, the anniversary of the 1942 debut of ‘Ray-Ban Sunglasses’.
Shades are a 20th-century phenomenon. In the 1930s, the military commissioned glasses that would protect pilots from sun glare. But they didn’t become a real fad until the 1960s when an ad campaign asked, “Who’s behind those Foster Grants?”

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS
Some nursing home residents in Maryland had a slightly more exciting day . . . 52-year-old Andrew Lunn works as a nurse at an assisted living facility in Salisbury, Maryland.
And he was at work last Tuesday when someone outside put their car in reverse by mistake, and backed into a RIVER that runs past the property.
He immediately realized the driver couldn’t get out, and the cops wouldn’t get there in time. So while his co-workers called 911, he stripped down to his skivvies and DOVE into the water.
He managed to get the guy to roll his window down . . . got his seatbelt undone . . . then PULLED him out through the window as the car went under.
An ambulance got the guy to a hospital. And he only ended up with minor injuries.
It turns out Andrew used to be a lifeguard.
And he says working as a nurse also helped, because he’s used to dealing with high-stress situations.

WHAT’S YOUR TAKE? – Bride’s Mother-in-Law Wore a Wedding Dress to the Wedding . . .
There’s a woman named Amy Pennza from Kirtland, Ohio and she tweeted out a photo on from back when she got married . . . where her new mother-in-law wore a WEDDING DRESS to the wedding.
The picture literally shows her and her mother-in-law standing there next to each other, both in long white wedding dresses.
But believe it or not, she says she wasn’t THAT mad about it . . . and she explained why in a Twitter thread.
It turns out her mother-in-law grew up so poor that sometimes she’d eat MATCHES out of starvation. So not as an adult, she obsessively hunts for deals . . . and when she saw the dress, it was, quote, “an incredible bargain [so] she couldn’t turn it down.”
Amy says that now her mother-in-law DOES feel bad about wearing it to the wedding . . . but Amy wasn’t THAT furious at her because she understood where the woman came from.
And she says her mother-in-law has always been GREAT to her and is now a fantastic grandmother.

CURE FOR THE COLD…GETTING WARMER:
Scientists think that they may have made a big leap toward finding a cure for the common cold after stopping a virus from replicating under laboratory conditions.
The authors of a study published in the journal PLOS Biology say their investigation involved finding a way to stabilize a part of a rhinovirus, which can cause the common cold. Stabilizing it would mean preventing it from releasing its genetic material and taking over host cells.
To do so, they say they targeted it with compounds that stabilized an important part of the virus, which stopped it from actively changing shape and invading other cells.
The bottom line: They say their study shows that they have found a new “druggable site” where there seems to be a weakness of the virus that could be exploited.
And what’s even better, this could lead to combating the last cases of polio, and other diseases caused by rhinoviruses, such as pneumonia and bronchitis.

IT’S ABOUT TIME:
You’ve heard of being on “island time,” where everything is a lot more laid back and people are way less stressed about making deadlines? How about “no time?”
The residents of a Norwegian island who are in the midst of an annual period of 69 days of daylight say that they want to declare their home the world’s first time-free zone.
That’s right, the islanders, whose main sources of income are tourism and fishing, are calling for formal opening hours to be abolished and people to be allowed to “do what we want, when we want” – although children will still have to go to school. Their plan is to go “time free” until the midnight sun period ends on July 26.
Sommaroey Island is located north of the Arctic Circle, and the 350 people there say that since no one can tell the difference between day and night, they tend to ignore the clock anyway, so why not have more flexible school and working hours?
As the campaign’s official Facebook page puts it: “If you want to paint your house at 2am, it’s OK. It we want to take a swim at 4am, we will.”

DIERKS BENTLEY ON THE MEND AFTER BREAKING HAND IN BIKE FALL
Dierks Bentley took a spill on Tuesday (June 25th) while mountain biking in Colorado and, according to him, “broke a few bones” in his hand. Dierks shared a video on Instagram yesterday (Wednesday, June 26th) of him playing guitar — yes, he’s still able to play with his cast — while his old daughter, Evie, sang Maren Morris’ “My Church.”
Dierks returns to his Burning Man Tour with special guest Jon Pardi and newcomer Tenille Townes on Saturday (June 29th) in Clarkston, MI.
He hits the stage at Country USA in Oshkosh, WI on Friday (June 28th).
DAN + SHAY’S POP STAR FRIENDS ARE ‘OBSESSED’ WITH COUNTRY MUSIC
Dan + Shay‘s crossover appeal has earned them a few famous non-country friends, as was evidenced by the duo’s recent participation in Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner‘s surprise Las Vegas wedding. Dan Smyers tells us while he and Shay Mooney been rubbing elbows with stars in other genres of music lately, these new friends are most interested in their country music connection. [“It is really cool to meet people, you know, other genres and people that are doing other things and realize how many people truly love country music. We have folks like Shawn Mendes or Demi Lovato hit us up and be like, ‘I am obsessed with country music — the story-telling, the songs, the harmonies, everything,’ and that’s awesome. We’re so proud to be a part of this community and to have people from the outside looking in like, ‘Man, I wish we had something like that. I wish we had that sense of community’ just makes us feel really glad to be here in Nashville doing what we do.”]
GRANGER SMITH AND WIFE PRESENT CHECK TO CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Granger Smith and his wife, Amber, presented a check for $218,791 to Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin, TX earlier this week. This is the hospital at which their three-year-old son, River, was treated after drowning in their family swimming pool earlier this month.
CBS Austin reports that Granger said, “This is just the beginning. Let this be a small token of the gratitude that we’ve got for you guys.”
The donation came from sales of a tribute T-shirt created in honor of River. One hundred percent of the profits were given to Dell Children’s Medical Center.
Granger returned to the road last weekend after taking some time off to grieve.
