On Today’s Show

There was a big crash on a road leading to Denver International Airport on Sunday, so almost 100 people wound up taking a detour that Google Maps suggested.

And . . . they all wound up STUCK in a MUDDY FIELD.  It turns out the detour was a dirt road that Google Maps NEVER should’ve recommended, and after a few cars got stuck, everyone else was trapped behind them.

SO… MANY….. SNAKE…STORIES…..

This could be your cue to run away from Alabama. Authorities in the state say a 15-foot yellow python was spotted slithering loose a subdivision in Tuscaloosa three times since last Monday. They say anyone who sees the animal should call 9-1-1 and do their best to give the location of the snake.

There’s a “zombie snake” that was found in North Carolina called the eastern hognose snake — and it’s famous for being able to flip over on its back and play dead!

Officials say when threatened, the non-venomous snake “will fake death by opening its mouth, rolling over on its back, and writhing around.

The species will also spread its neck like a cobra and hiss. While the snakes rarely bite, they repeatedly strike if under threat. It can grow up to about four feet in length, is found in the eastern part of the U.S., from Florida up to New England and portions of southern Canada

The Cape Coral Police Department in Florida said in a Facebook post that an officer responded Sunday (June 23rd) to “an animal complaint”. The officer found a huge red-tail boa constrictor “slithering down the road.” The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission captured the snake.

For $300, you can get a snake massage from a lady in New York who calls herself “Serpentessa.”  She places her three boa constrictors on you, and lets them slither around for an hour.   She says no one’s ever been hurt doing it.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

A woman in Georgia recently posted a photo of a guy sleeping on a bench seat at a McDonald’s near Atlanta, and shamed him for it.  She said she complained about it to an employee, but they told her it was okay.  Then the full story came out.

The guy’s name is Simon.  He’s 21.  And he’s an employee at the McDonald’s who recently became homeless.  He also has a new baby he’s raising, and his mom just passed away.  So he’s really been struggling.

But despite all that, he’s still hard-working.  And he was sleeping there between shifts while working a double, because he didn’t have a car to nap in.

Once people heard about it, they wanted to help him.  And when he showed up for his next shift, random strangers had dropped off diapers, clothes, and other essentials.  Then someone offered to put him up in a hotel.

Because of the story, he’s been getting job offers.  So someone lent him their car to get to interviews.  And there’s also a GoFundMe page now approaching $10,000.

He says he’s not even mad at the woman who posted the photo.  Because in the end, it’s changed his life.

HOT WEATHER HACKS:
➠ Make aloe ice cubes:  Be ready for that inevitable sunburn. Pick up a bottle of aloe vera gel and fill an ice cube tray. Remove them as needed to cool off your beet-red skin.

➠ Freeze a sponge:  Soak it, toss it in a Ziplock bag, and leave it in the freezer. When you are melting from the heat, take it out and rest it on your forehead or wrists.

➠ Wear wet socks to bed:  For those unbearably hot nights, place a towel at bottom of your bed and slip on a pair of socks you’ve soaked in cold water. Point a fan at your feet and prepare for a prolonged chill to tingle up your spine.

➠ Freeze your pillowcases and sheets:  To better fall asleep on those humid nights, stash a few pillowcases in a sealed bag in the freezer and slip them on before you hit the hay. You’ll be surprised how well it works to cool you down.

HOW TO SHAKE THE MONDAY MORNING BLUES:
They usually hit on Sunday about 5pm, and last until…well, Monday at noon. Here is how to start your week on the right note:

  1. Savor that Sunday sleep: The only thing worse than waking up on a Monday morning is waking up on a Monday tired. Try this: have a bath or long shower and get into those cozy PJs and call it an early night. Come 6 a.m., you’ll be so glad that you did.
  2. Have a hit list: Have a list of five or so ‘action items’ to complete during the week. That will help you feel in control and focused on Monday morning. Creating a short list of what will make

your week satisfying helps you stay on track.

  1. Infuse Monday with a little fun: Why not make Monday the new Thursday? Go to a movie. Have sushi with a friend. Have your co-worker over for a glass of wine and a little cheese — Mondays feel way different when your week is punctuated with pleasure.

  1. Make a change: If your Monday misery feels impossible to contain over time, it’s probably a good sign you need to make a change. Maybe you need a vacation or to look for a new job.

ALAN JACKSON CELEBRATES 30TH ANNIVERSARY WITH NEW DVD – (06/27/2019)

Alan Jackson marked 30 years since signing his first record deal on Wednesday. To begin the celebration, a newly-produced documentary chronicling his career is being released on DVD this week.

Alan Jackson: Small Town Southern Man features rarely-seen performance and interview footage, never-before-seen photos, and interviews with such peers as Carrie Underwood, Lee Ann Womack and Alison Krauss.

Alan once told reporters that his success story reads like a fairytale. [“It’s hard for anybody really to understand where I came from and to have all this happen and to get to where I am today, it’s just . . . it’s truly the American dream. I mean it’s just ’cause people don’t realize that we had nothing and I didn’t know anything about the music and somebody in Georgia said, ‘Hey, you sound pretty good. You sound just as good as good as some of those guys on the radio, why don’t you move to Nashville’ and I said, ‘Okay . . .’ (laughter) and that was basically what happened, and we came up here and it just happened it was just a miracle.”]

The anniversary recalls some of the highlights of Alan’s career, including inductions to the Country Music Hall of Fame and to the Songwriters Hall of Fame, multiple Grammy, ACM and CMA wins and membership in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry. He’s also sold more than 60 million albums.

BROOKS & DUNN TEAM UP WITH JON PARDI, LUKE COMBS FOR TONIGHT’S ‘CROSSROADS’

Brooks & Dunn team up with some of country’s hottest new stars when CMT Crossroads: Brooks & Dunn and Friends premieres tonight (Friday, June 28th) at 10 p.m. ET. The show was filmed in front of thousands of fans on an outdoor stage in downtown Nashville where Kix Brooks & Ronnie Dunn were joined by friends Brett Young, LANCO frontman Brandon Lancaster, Cody Johnson, Jon Pardi, Luke Combs and Midland.

The one-hour special showcases songs from Brooks & Dunn’s 2019 collaboration project Reboot, featuring re-recordings of their timeless hits with a twist of added guest vocals and new arrangements. One of those re-boots was on the duo’s 1991 hit “My Next Broken Heart” with Jon Pardi, who tells us he couldn’t wait to sing alongside his musical heroes. [“When they asked me to be a part of this project I was first of all super pumped, super excited, like, ‘Heck yeah, I want to sing Brooks & Dunn!’ I wanted kind of the older honky-tonk shuffle that made them start ‘Brand New Man’ and ‘My Next Broken Heart,’ so I wanted that kind of early attitude to bring to this project and we had a blast recording it.”]

Brooks & Dunn also perform fan-favorites “My Maria” and “You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone.”

They’ve released video of B&D and MIDLAND performing “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.
