On Today’s Show
July 3, 2019 9:35 amA mime swindled a town in England. They were having a carnival, and he went around charging people to guess who he was . . . he had his whole face and body covered in a black and white checkered suit, and said it was a fundraiser. But he never revealed who he was, kept the money, and disappeared halfway through. A few days later, he anonymously dropped off the cash at nearby church.

ENTERTAINMENT
ABC is reviving the comedy-variety show “Kids Say the Darndest Things” next season, with comedian Tiffany Haddish stepping in to host. Described as a “reimagined” take on the Bill Cosby-hosted show from the late 1990s about the humorous things children say when talking to adults, the new “Kids Say the Darndest Things” will feature “a mix of in-studio segments and taped pieces from across the country, all set in front of a live studio audience.”

TODAY IS……………….
- “International Plastic Bag-Free Day”, a day to pick paper over plastic or, even better, a bag that’s reusable. ‘Disposable’ plastic bags are one of the world’s worst environmental problems.
- “Eat Your Beans Day”, celebrating beans of all sizes, shapes and colors. Beans (legumes) are one of the longest-cultivated plants, dating back to the seventh millennium BC. They are also an excellent source of protein, fiber, iron and complex carbohydrates

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS
A 21-year-old in England named Kayleigh Brown has been gearing up for her wedding. And last Sunday was her bachelorette party. One of her best friends is a woman named Harriot Brown. And they’d both been drinking.
Then they were walking home at three in the morning when they saw SMOKE coming from a random apartment.
And even though they were both tipsy, they STILL saved the day.
While Kayleigh called for help, Harriot went to the back door and heard a guy yelling for help. So she BROKE IN . . . got upstairs . . . found a guy in his 70s who couldn’t get out . . . helped him down the stairs . . . and saved his life.
He must have been disoriented, because he told them there was also a KID upstairs. So then Harriot went BACK IN and searched until she couldn’t stand the smoke anymore. Luckily the guy was wrong, and no one else was there.
Harriot says her instincts just kicked in. And she doesn’t think she really did anything special. Quote, “Anyone would have done what we did.”

“I KNOW IT SOUNDS WEIRD, BUT JUST TRY IT” LIFE HACKS:
➠ Open a bag of chips upside down — all the flavor is chillin’ at the bottom.
➠ Wet your pizza before reheating it in the microwave so the crust doesn’t get chewy.
➠ When you’re congested, push your tongue against the roof of your mouth and the bottom of your palm against your forehead to clear your sinuses.
➠ Add a pinch of salt in your coffee to cut the bitterness.
➠ If your hands are raw and need some TLC, stick ’em inside a bag of uncooked rice.
➠ Take a sip of water before you put the pill in your mouth.
➠ If you always second-guess whether you locked the door or turned the oven off, say the action out loud while you do it.

HITTING THE BOOKS (LIGHTLY):
Here’s something that you may (or may not) want to share with your kids.
A study suggests that staying up late to try to memorize information for an upcoming test has the opposite effect, giving the brain no “downtime” to let the knowledge sink in. Researchers from the Loyola Marymount University in California also found the sleep deprivation that also results from late-night cram sessions also corresponds to lower exam scores.
They found that new memories only stick in the brain if they are “consolidated,” which is a process that largely happens during sleep.
Scientists also examined the power of napping to boost memory after studying and found that newly learned facts stuck in people’s brains better after a nap.

Study Found the Five Most Common Myths About Sleep
Researchers at NYU recently combed through 8,000 websites to find out what people know . . . or THINK they know . . . about getting a good night’s sleep. Here are the five most common sleep myths . . .
Myth #1: Five hours of sleep a night is fine. They say that’s the most DANGEROUS myth about sleep. Because study after study shows that regularly getting less than five hours increases your risk for heart disease and early death.
Myth #2: It’s great to be able to fall asleep anywhere, anytime. Everyone’s jealous of people who can fall asleep on a plane before you even take off. But with most people, it’s a sign you’re not well rested in general. Meaning you’re not sleeping enough, or the quality of your sleep isn’t good.
Myth #3: Your brain and body can adapt to less sleep. That’s also not true. So if you’re not getting 7 or 8 hours a night, your mind and body are suffering.
Myth #4: Snoring is annoying, but basically harmless. Loud snoring can be a sign of sleep apnea. Especially if you can also hear pauses in breathing. And apnea increases risks for all kinds of things, including heart attacks, diabetes, and cancer.
Myth #5: Drinking alcohol before bed helps you sleep. It can help you fall asleep, but you don’t get as much DEEP sleep when you’ve been drinking. So you’re more likely to wake up feeling tired.

DIERKS BENTLEY’S SON WILL NOT BE A CHILD STAR – (06/11/2019)
Dierks Bentley‘s five-year-old son Knox made his official debut on the small screen in his dad’s latest video for “Living.” While Dierks says Knox behaved like a total “pro” over the course of the multi-day shoot, he tells his child actor days are pretty much over. [“He doesn’t talk too much about it. My other two – my 10 and 8-year-old – they talk about it a lot cause they’re like, ‘When is it my turn to do a video with you.’ They have their own songs picked out where Jordan wants to go mountain climbing for the song ‘Mountain’ so it’s caused me some problems on that front, but, no, he hasn’t talked about it too much which I think is good cause I really saw on that video shoot how you could be like a child star and get in all sorts of problems. You’re giving him Skittles to kind of keep the energy going and I could see how in a few years that might be a bump or two to kind of . . . you know, so I’m glad it’s just like, ‘We’re gonna get out of this now before it gets bad.'”]
CARRIE UNDERWOOD CUT HER TEETH ON JULY 4TH PERFORMANCES – (07/03/2019)
Carrie Underwood showed glimpses of becoming the superstar she is when she was only a kid. She tells us she used this week’s holiday as the perfect opportunity to entertain her parents. [“I think my favorite Fourth of July memory would be going to the fireworks stand and picking out which fireworks I wanted to do. I must’ve been like 7 or 8, and I came home and made a list of what order I wanted to do them in, because I wanted to put a show on for Mom and Dad, and of course I couldn’t wait until it was dark outside (laughs). So, I made my Mom and Dad get the lawn chairs and come out to the backyard and watch some not very dramatic fireworks at like six o’clock in the evening, but I was so proud of myself, and I was so proud of the show that I put on. So, I feel like that was a little training for what I do now – putting on shows, figuring out how it’s all going to work out.”]
Carrie has some downtime from the road to enjoy summertime with family and friends. Her Cry Pretty 360 Tour resumes on September 10th in San Diego, CA.
On July 19th and 20th she’ll hit the stage at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
JENNIFER NETTLES
Jennifer Nettles says she has been musical her whole life. She used to create melodies on the swing set as a kid. The first songs she wrote were for her church, and they let her perform them. And the first country song she wrote had a very country title. It was called, “He Couldn’t Give Up the Bottle So She Had to Give Back His Name”.
