The chances of any of us regular people dating a celebrity is about a billion to one.  But if you want it to happen, go ahead and slide into that celebrity’s DMs.  You never know what could happen.

Because that’s how CHRISSY METZ from “This Is Us” found her new boyfriend.

On “The Wendy Williams Show” yesterday, she said, quote, “He had messaged a couple of times, very sweet but not obnoxious or weird.  And then I was like, ‘Let me see if he’s cute.  Oh, he’s cute!  Okay, I guess I can respond.’

“But I waited a little bit because you can’t be an eager beaver.  And then I responded, and then we just sort of hit it off.”

A drunk guy in Daytona Beach got arrested after he almost let his five-year-old son drown while teaching him how to swim.

He just left him out in deep water next to a pier, and wouldn’t stop yelling at him.  Luckily, an ex-cop named Mitch Brown happened to be there, and put an end to it.  Now the guy’s facing child abuse charges.

ENTERTAINMENT

A fake chocolate bar and golden ticket from the 1971 film “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory” has sold for $19,600 at auction in England.

The Wonka bar, which is made of cardboard, originally belonged to the actress Julie Dawn Cole, who played spoiled brat Veruca Salt. In the movie, June’s character bagged the golden ticket after her wealthy father got staff at his firm to open thousands of chocolate bars in a bid to find one of the five winning tickets.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

A Wallaceburg neighbourhood is taking life’s lemons and making lemonade in hopes of helping a little girl hear.

On Saturday, a lemonade stand fundraiser was held for 12-year-old Alaina Moninger of Wallaceburg. Moninger’s family is hoping to raise money to get her new cochlear implants.

Moninger was born deaf but misdiagnosed and the family didn’t learn about her hearing impairment until she was 11 months old. Moninger received an implant on her right side in 2009 and on her left side in 2011. Since then, her family has learned that her hearing implants need to be upgraded, with the left one currently not working at all. Both implants are now obsolete and unrepairable and cost $13,000 per ear to replace, with none of the upgrades covered by insurance.

With funding from the government, the out of pocket expense is $6,500.

One of Moninger’s neighbours, Tasha Dionne, was behind the “Help Alaina Hear” fundraiser on Saturday. According to Dionne, a total of $6,400 was raised within a matter of hours. Dozens came out to show their support for the cause including the Wallaceburg Bantam Girls hockey team, which donated $400. Dionne praised the community for its support.

Moninger’s family has also set up a GoFundMe page to help with any additional expenses.

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A Missouri man decided he needed a unique plan to get the attention of his city’s public works department, so he threw a birthday party for a pothole that he had been complaining about since March. Frank Sereno posted pictures on Facebook of a slice of birthday cake with a number 3 candle placed inside the pothole, presumably to indicate that he and his neighbors had been enjoying the pothole’s company for three years. A spokesperson for Kansas City’s Public Works Department has since indicated that crews were on Sereno’s block recently to finally make the repair.

➢ A first-time flyer tried a new method of boarding a plane at an airport in Turkey. A viral video shows her climbing onto a luggage conveyor belt, reportedly thinking it would transport her to the plane. The would-be passenger checked in her bags at Istanbul Airport, but instead of heading to her terminal, she proceeded to climb onto the conveyor belt as terminal attendants and other passengers looked on. She promptly fell onto her backside as the belt rolled forward.

➢ Police in Spain arrested a man who allegedly tried to smuggle half a kilo of cocaine under his over-sized toupee at Barcelona’s international airport. Authorities said the man appeared to be extremely nervous when he arrived on a flight from Bogota, Colombia. They were also puzzled by his disproportionately large hairpiece. When he was asked to remove the wig, a package of cocaine was reportedly found stuck to his head. The drugs have an estimated street value of $34,000.

Woman launches petition to fine Amber Alert complainers
An online petition that calls for fines to be levied against people who call 911 to complain about Amber Alerts is gaining momentum. More than 60,000 have signed the petition.

Following the most recent Amber Alert, issued earlier this month when two boys went missing in Newmarket with their grandfather, police were forced to defend their decision to send out the emergency notification during the early hours of the morning.

So far this year, Amber Alerts have been issued on five separate occasions in Ontario. Four resulted in the safe return of children.

A homeowner in the GTA called 911 to complain about the length of time an ice-cream truck was parked outside, Peel police say.

The call was made on Saturday, which was the hottest day in Toronto so far this year. “It’s hot outside which means the ice cream trucks will probably be out. If the ice cream truck stops in front of your house and is there for a bit due to all the children, it’s still not a reason to call 911 to complain,” Peel police said in a tweet.

STUDY: SWEARING REALLY DOES HELP WITH PAIN

Next time you stub your toe, go ahead and drop and swear if you want to it could help ease your pain.

Researchers from England compared real and made-up expletives to see if there was a link between pain tolerance and uttering one or the other.

They found saying a made-up expletive did not alleviate pain in the same way that swearing for real did.

Study leader and language expert Dr. Richard Stephens explains, “It seems swearing has a strong emotional connection, and this is likely due to the circumstances in which we first hear swear words. […] Repeating the swear-word was the best option for increasing tolerance to pain.”

MIDLAND FEARED DENNIS QUAID WOULD GET HURT DURING VIDEO SHOOT

Actor Dennis Quaid actually volunteered to be in Midland‘s video for their latest single, “Mr. Lonely.” Not only that, but he really wanted to put himself out there and do all his own stunts, something which Midland member and the video’s co-director, Cameron Duddy, tells us was a little too risky in certain shots. [“Dennis Quaid wanted to do all his own stunts which is like, absurd, because I’m not going to be responsible for hurting Dennis Quaid on a free music video shoot.  He ended up doing a lot of stuff that we didn’t want him to do. He took some serious blows. We did drag him across the bar. We would not light his crotch on fire. He wanted to do it. We were like, ‘Dude, I’m sorry we just can’t do it we don’t have the insurance policy for it.’ He wanted to get thrown out the window. We were like, ‘No, actually, why don’t you go shoot this thing over here.’  We kind of had to fake him out and shoot two units to do certain things so he wouldn’t be around, because he would’ve just insisted on doing it. All told it was a fantastic video, super fun to work on. Dennis Quaid over delivered.”]

“Mr. Lonely” will be featured on Midland’s new album, Let It Roll, which is set for release on August 23rd.

KEITH URBAN TO MARK ALBUM ANNIVERSARIES WITH VINYL RELEASES

Two of Keith Urban‘s albums will be released on vinyl – his self-titled debut project, to commemorate 20 years since the album was released, and Defying Gravity, to mark its 10th anniversary. Both will be released on September 13th.

Fans can choose between standard black vinyl or limited-edition colored vinyl. This is the first release of the Keith Urban album on vinyl, while Defying Gravity was previously released on vinyl as a limited edition, but this time the colored version will be pressed on white vinyl. Fans can pre-order both albums now.

Meanwhile In his song “Gemini”, Keith Urban says, quote, “She’s a maniac in the bed, but a braniac in her head.”  So, is Nicole Kidman okay with that level of sharing?  Kind of.  She was asked about it on an Australian radio show and she said, quote, “I don’t censor his art.  If I can be a muse for it.”  She added, quote, “It is embarrassing, but at the same time, yes it’s better than saying, ‘God, I’m so bored . . . Make an effort, Nicole.'”
