On Today’s Show
July 29, 2019 9:30 amIn advance of a new noise bylaw coming into effect this October, Toronto Police and City of Toronto bylaw officers held a press conference g to announce a blitz aimed at drivers whose vehicles “have been modified, altered or used in a way that is excessively noisy.”
Officials are taking particular aim at people who blast music from their vehicles, rev their motorcycles, honk their horns ad nauseum, have booming mufflers or participate in stunt driving. Toronto Mayor John Tory went on to say that the problem extends beyond the downtown core, that residents are continuously filing complaints about it, and that there really is no excuse for what these drivers are doing and he repeated something his wife says. . . that guys who drive loud cars are compensating for something…..
Those caught will face fines of up to $155 per offence.

RANDOM REPORT
- The guy who invented USB wanted it to be flippable, but that doubled the cost, so we got what we got: USB devices that only plug in one way. And always, somehow, the opposite of the way you try to plug them in on your first try.
- Belize is the only country in Central America that’s never gotten a visit from a U.S. president, even though we’ve always had good relations with them.
- “The Jetsons”came out 57 years ago, in 1962 . . . and was set in 2062, which is 43 years from now. In other words, we’re now much closer to the future it predicted than the year it came out.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS
New York Mets outfielder JEFF MCNEIL is among the National League leaders in batting. So he probably didn’t need a good luck charm. But now he’s got one anyway . . .
An animal shelter in New York brought some puppies down on the field during warmups on Friday. And it turns out Jeff REALLY likes puppies.
He posed for a photo with one, and said he wanted to adopt it. But he had to clear it with his wife first. Then in the third inning, he hit a three-run homer. And he gave the PUPPY credit for it after the game. He said he was planning to use it as a bargaining chip to convince his wife Tatiana that the puppy’s good luck.
And apparently she bought it. Because they adopted it the next day.
(In other SPORTS GOOD NEWS: A 10-year-old Make-A-Wish kid named Nico Sapienza hung out with Red Sox star Mookie Betts before their game on Friday, and asked him to hit a home run for him. So Mookie went out and hit THREE of them.

Woman Wins the Lottery, Then Gets Busted for Drugs Hours Later
A 59-year-old woman in Deltona, Florida named Migdalia Cruz recently won $20,000 on a scratch-off ticket. And she took her 39-year-old son Luis with her to claim her money on Tuesday.
Then a few hours later, they both got arrested for DRUGS. Right after they got home, police showed up with a warrant. And the son had three bags of heroin and fentanyl on him.
We’re assuming they used some of their winnings to buy the drugs, but it’s not clear. And it sounds like they were already on the cops’ radar for dealing.
Police found more drugs when they searched their house, and arrested both of them. Another woman who was there also got arrested.
The mom got released on $5,000 bail. Last we heard, the son was still being held on a $36,000 bond.

Woman Gets a DUI for Pouring Hennessy Into a Taco Bell Drive-Thru Worker’s Mouth
23-year-old Elianna Aguilar-Aguilar from Cornelius, Oregon was going to a Taco bell drive thru around 1:20 A.M. on Saturday.
And for some reason, she wound up whipping out a bottle of Hennessy . . . and POURING it into the drive thru worker’s MOUTH. And he clearly had to be willing, since that’s not exactly a stunt you can pull off without cooperation.
But Elianna’s generosity backfired . . . because a cop randomly happened to be behind her in the drive-thru line and saw the entire thing go down.
He pulled her over and her blood-alcohol level was .12, which is above the legal limit of .08, so she was arrested for a DUI.
As for the drive-thru employee, the cops say they talked to him and he said he didn’t know Elianna . . . and he didn’t drink most of the Hennessy because it spilled on his shirt.
There’s no word on what Taco Bell thinks of him drinking on the job.

There’s a Petition to Change the Date of Halloween . . . and It Has 100,000 Signatures
Halloween has been on October 31st for all of our lifetimes. But does it HAVE to be?
There’s an online petition right now to change the date of Halloween from October 31st to the last Saturday in October.
The thinking is that it’d be better for everyone if it were on a Saturday . . . from parents looking to take their kids trick-or-treating to people in their 20s looking to party.
So far, the petition on Change.org has around 100,000 signatures. When a petition crosses the 75,000 mark, it’s sent to the president so . . . I guess we’ll see what happens with that.
For what it’s worth, this petition has been going since last year . . . but it’s finally getting more steam now, so maybe this time it’ll have a shot?

A Study Finds a Great Way to Lose Weight Is . . . Stop Eating After 2:00 P.M.
Apparently you can lose weight without having to cut your calories or carbs or sugar. You just have to cut out dinner.
A new study by the University of Alabama at Birmingham found that when people only ate between 8:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. it helped them burn way more fat than people eating three meals a day . . . even though they ate the same number of calories.
The people who stopped eating at 2:00 P.M. also found themselves hungry less often than the people who were eating all day long . . . which is basically the opposite of what you’d think.
So why does this happen? The researchers think your body quickly adapts to eating less often and produces less of the hormone ghrelin that makes you hungry . . . and more of the hormone peptide YY that makes you feel full.
The researchers say they’re REALLY optimistic about the success people can have with the plan because they’re not feeling as hungry . . . so they’re not as likely to break the diet.

BRETT YOUNG AND WIFE ‘NARROWING’ LIST OF BABY NAMES
Brett Young and his wife, Taylor, are in the process of trying to decide on a name for their baby girl, who is due this fall. They have been keeping track of names they like, but as Brett tells us, whittling it down and agreeing on several, much less one, is no easy task.[“Both me and my wife had like running lists but neither of us had the name. You know, it was just whenever we would think of or see something we liked, it’d go into the boy column or the girl column. And so what was interesting is when we found out it was a girl we went and A/B’ed our girl column and a lot of them were the same. And so that’s a good thing, but also the problem with that is that now you have a ton that you have to whittle down. The good news is, is we’re whittling down from names we both had in lists. But we’re still narrowing. We’re not quite there yet. I think the fun thing about naming a child is, I’m not one of those people that thinks you have to see the baby’s face before you know what their name is. I think they become their name. So it’s gonna be fun watching her grow into whatever her name ends up being.”]
In the meantime, Brett continues touring the country. His latest single, “Catch,” is making its climb up the country charts.
FGL’S TYLER HUBBARD SHARES DETAILS BEHIND BABY’S NAME
Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard and his wife, Hayley, will welcome their second child, a baby boy, into the world next month. The couple has chosen the name Luca Reedfor their son, which Tyler explains: [ “We liked the name Luca, thought it was kind of American but kind of cultured as well. And also it means bringer of light. So we kind of thought that was cool. And the middle name Reed is my middle name, so we just want to carry that over, thought it kinda had a little ring to it, Luca Reed. I can’t take a lot of credit. My wife’s the one that came up with all that, but I definitely agree and think it’s a cool name.”]
Florida Georgia Line continue on their Can’t Say I Ain’t Country Tour with special guest Dan + Shay and Morgan Wallen. They play this weekend in Raleigh and Charlotte, NC.
