A man in India has pushed a brand-new car into a river because he was upset his parents gifted him a BMW instead of a Jaguar for his birthday. The young man, only known as Akash, from northern India, was given a BMW M3 car by his mother and father. In an act of protest over not getting the vehicle he wanted, the man ditched the car, but later jumped into the river and joined drivers to try and save it. BMWs cost around 3.5 million rupees ($49,000) locally, while Jaguars are more expensive, costing about five million rupees ($70,000). Shocking footage shows the car floating away on the river in the northern Indian state before it gets stuck on a bank of tall grass. Akash, believed to be the son of a local landlord swims in and tries to rescue it, with the help of others. Police are investigating the incident.

ENTERTAINMENT

The Emmys are taking a cue from the Oscars this year and going hostless. Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier made the announcement saying that his main reasoning for going without a host is to allow more time to “honor” the television shows to which the night is dedicated.

The Primetime Emmys will air September 22 on Fox.

GOOD NEWS

Payless stores have been closing down after they filed for bankruptcy in February.  And this is the second story like this we’ve seen in the past few months . . .

A woman in northwest Arkansas named Carrie Jernigan recently took her kids to the mall to get new shoes.  And Payless was having a liquidation sale.

Her daughter asked if they could buy a pair of Avengers shoes for her friend at school, who couldn’t afford shoes that fit.  Then Carrie asked the cashier how much it would cost to buy ALL the shoes they had left.

There were about 300 pairs, and she won’t say how much they cost.  But a woman in Kansas did the same thing recently, and got 204 pairs of shoes for 49 cents each.

Things got even more generous though.  Because when Carrie came back with a truck to pick the shoes up, she found out the store had just gotten another shipment of another THOUSAND PAIRS of shoes.  And she bought all those shoes too.

She ended up with just under 1,500 pairs of shoes, and won’t say how much she spent.  But the total value of the shoes BEFORE her discount was about $21,000.

Around 400 pairs were for adults, and she donated them all.  The other 1,100 pairs were kids’ shoes.  So she set up an event where parents can go get free shoes for their kids, just in time for the new school year.

Entomologist: Keep Your Luggage in Hotel Tub

Forget about putting your suitcase into your hotel room’s closet and don’t even think about throwing it onto your bed to unpack it.

That’s what an insect expert says and the reason may make you cringe: It’s to avoid bringing home any unwanted guests. An entomologist says bedbugs that hide on hotel mattresses, couches, and other upholstered surfaces can easily crawl into luggage, and that even luggage racks that keep bags off the floor can have critters hiding out in the device’s legs if those legs are hollow. So where does she recommend hotel patrons stash their belongings?

In the bathroom, preferably in the bathtub, as bedbugs are least likely to end up there; They have a hard time climbing slippery surfaces typically found in bathrooms, like glass and porcelain, and they can’t fly.

Five Ways to Relax for National Relaxation Day

It’s National Relaxation Day today.  So here are five ways to help yourself relax that are all backed by science . . .

  1. Eat a banana.  Potassium helps regulate blood pressure.  And when your blood pressure’s low, it’s easier to deal with stress.

  1. Give yourself a hand massage.  It’s a quick and easy way to relax by releasing endorphins.  Especially if you work on a computer and type all day.

  1. Mow your lawn.  Fresh-cut grass has a specific chemical in it that makes us feel happy and relaxed.  That’s why everyone loves the smell of it.

  1. Avoid screens before bed.  The artificial light blocks the production of melatonin, the hormone that makes you sleepy.  Studies have found people who use phones and computers late at night tend to be more stressed out.

  1. Listen to music.  It relaxes you by slowing down your heart rate, lowering your blood pressure, and blocking stress hormones.  Studies have found that classical music works best.  But ANY type of music you enjoy also works.

MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE

An Alaska man found a message in a bottle that had been tossed into the water by a Russian sailor 50 years earlier.

Tyler Ivanoff said he was just north of the Bering Strait—the northernmost point of the Pacific Ocean that separates North America from Asia—when he found a bottle that contained a letter dated June 20, 1969. It was from a sailor aboard the Sulak, a fishing boat that reports say belonged to the Soviet Far East fishing fleet.

Judging from the photo Ivanoff posted, the letter was well-preserved—despite being carried thousands of miles east through the Strait in half a century. “A heartfelt hello,” the letter said in cursive Russian. What followed was a request for the message recipient to report to the city of Vladivostok in eastern Russia. “We wish you good health, many years of life and happy sailing,” the sailor added.

Last year an even more amazing discovery was done when a couple in Western Australia found the oldest known message in a bottle.

Thinking it would “look good on a bookshelf” Tonya Illman picked up an old-looking gin bottle while walking on sand dunes, only to discover a message inside that was written in German that was 136 years old.

Inside the bottle was a roll of paper dated June 12, 1886 from a German scientific experiment to try and map ocean currents.

FGL’S TYLER HUBBARD AND WIFE PREPPING DAUGHTER FOR BABY BROTHER

Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard and his wife, Hayley, will welcome their second child any day now. The baby, a boy they will  name Luca, will join their 20-month-old daughter, Liv. Tyler tells us they’ve been trying to prepare Liv for the new addition: [“We just try to talk about him a lot and kind of point out the fact that your baby brother’s in mom’s tummy right now and he’s gonna be out soon, and just kind of talk to her in childlike phrases.  We feel like it’s pretty important and hopefully she can kind of know what to expect a little bit.  I think she knows what’s going on, so we’ll see how the transition goes.”]

Florida Georgia Line is currently in the middle of their Can’t Say I Ain’t Country Tour, with special guest Dan + Shay.

Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire, and Carly Pearce on the “Nashville Sisterhood”

WOMAN’S DAY” has a story called the “Sisterhood of Country Music.” . . . and they talked to three generations of female singers, Reba McEntireMiranda Lambert, and Carly Pearce.

Reba said, quote, “Many of us write together, we support each other.  The camaraderie is special.”

Carly Pearce added, quote, “Even on social media, we all champion each other.”

Miranda remembers the early days when Gretchen Wilson encouraged her to call if she needed anything . . . and the time that Faith Hill reached out with a gift.

Quote, “Faith sent me a note one day with a bracelet that was like, ‘I wear this onstage, and when I get scared I just remember that I’m doing what I’m supposed to do.'”

Reba had Barbara Mandrell in her corner back in the day.  Quote, “We were friends early on.  Barbara was a very energetic, loyal, determined, hardworking woman, and I learned a lot from her.  To just go and do your job, and be prepared.”

When Carly hit a tough patch early on, she got help from Kelsea Ballerini, who was just getting her career on track.

Quote, “Kelsea’s taken me out on every one of her tours prior to me having any singles on the radio.  She talked about me in every interview.  And when ‘Every Little Thing’ happened, she sent a cake, flowers, and a card.  She is the perfect example of a woman who had no reason other than her pure heart.  I’ll never forget that, and I hope to pay it forward someday.”
